A movie that sells well garantuees a blockbuster quality and descent entertainment in general, obviously they hit the mainstream taste, and none of them is an actually bad movie.
Still, the revenue does not alwys relate to quality, so here are my favourite 50 of All-Time Box Office: World-wide

1. Avatar (2009)
PG-13 | 162 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy
A paraplegic marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.
Votes: 971,150 | Gross: $760.51M
I felt I was back to a funfair as a child. The film is certainly a technical masterpiece being fully rendered and mocaped. It shows the direction where movies are going (soon anybody can in fact act as Bruce Willis or Johnny Depp ...).
Annoying was - although well done - the brute force way of showing off a different world by animals having four eyes and arms. Although in the little monkeys' case they could actually make sense, it was in the all the other cases not plausible to me why on Earth - I mean why on Pandora - Eowa would produce running animals which four arms or eyes. I kept thinking about that instead of watching and enjoying the movie. I think I would have chosen animals who could bend into a circle and thus move/roll.
Awesome was the idea of the USB-stick in the braid.
Watch the extended 2010 version.
PG-13 | 201 min | Adventure, Drama, Fantasy
Gandalf and Aragorn lead the World of Men against Sauron's army to draw his gaze from Frodo and Sam as they approach Mount Doom with the One Ring.
Votes: 1,360,486 | Gross: $377.85M
Andy Serkis is the to-go person if it comes to animating creatures, it seems. Good luck the crew integrated him into the movie. Imagine they had kept him as on set placeholder only! Also the other cast and settings were believabaly great. Christopher Lee as Saruman, wow!
What a huge and great effort. No wonder Peter Jackson gained so much weight ;)
PG-13 | 143 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Blacksmith Will Turner teams up with eccentric pirate "Captain" Jack Sparrow to save his love, the governor's daughter, from Jack's former pirate allies, who are now undead.
Votes: 900,657 | Gross: $305.41M
What an amazing stunt of Johnny Depp to pull this pirate out of his own hat. Although they have been milking the sparrow's boldness at least once too often all four movies deliver a solid biockbuster entertainment.
4. Shrek 2 (2004)
PG | 93 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy
Princess Fiona's parents invite her and Shrek to dinner to celebrate her marriage. If only they knew the newlyweds were both ogres.
Votes: 349,192 | Gross: $436.47M
Puss in Boots LOL That furry thing really caught me off guard. And Eddie Murphy made an epic donkey business . And of course Myers, always worth a laugh.
5. Up (2009)
PG | 96 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy
Seventy-eight year old Carl Fredricksen travels to Paradise Falls in his home equipped with balloons, inadvertently taking a young stowaway.
Votes: 761,506 | Gross: $293.00M

Votes: 346,461 | Gross: $215.43M
I did not like the second one, though.

Votes: 510,753 | Gross: $167.45M
James Blond, well, who says hair color is the only important thing in the world? The rest of Craig makes more than up for it. The producers take such good care of the franchise by always finding new ways and taking an unexpected turn for the better. After having milked the smooth Brosnan enough (I had enough of the world when I saw the "invisible" car) they made a great choice with Craig and delivered a raw sequel unlike any other.
He is good news. (Judi Dench)
The sequel however suffered from Kuryenkos survival and Arterton's too soon death. I personally would have switched their roles. So I take it as an advantage that that movie was not too long.
8. I Am Legend (2007)
PG-13 | 101 min | Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi
Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles valiantly to find a cure.
Votes: 591,333 | Gross: $256.39M
Another great CG work, and Smith in a serious role is not bad, too. The theatrical ending was much better than the "alternative" one.
Although i thought that setting up a note with the address would have been much smarter than actually showing up at the water front personally every day. Well, maybe I should not question logics in an apocalyptic zombie movie.
9. Iron Man (2008)
PG-13 | 126 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
After being held captive in an Afghan cave, billionaire engineer Tony Stark creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil.
Votes: 770,554 | Gross: $318.41M
Downey is back!. Although he never actually disappeared from the big screen This (and S.H) is his first mega hit after a longer period of rehab hopping, as far as I know.
I never read any Iron man comics because I had enough of rich dude/super hero stories following Batman. Nonetheless after some hesitation I watched one of the last shows in our local theater. This one is really entertaining and funny, and Downey always has a self Ironic attitude.
Although Cheadle is the bigger name for the second movie Terrence Howard did a pretty good job, too, and I got used to his face.
Mickey Rourke in the sequel is awesome, and Paltrow, too.
10. Terminator 2 (1991)
R | 137 min | Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller
A cyborg, identical to the one who failed to kill Sarah Connor, must now protect her ten year old son, John Connor, from a more advanced cyborg.
Votes: 830,419 | Gross: $204.84M
Nowadays teenagers can mimic these FX, but at that time it was ground breaking. And Arnie talks sentences I can understand.
I would not have minded seeing more of Kristanna Loken, since her acting sucked so badly in T3
11. Rio (2011)
G | 96 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy
When Blu, a domesticated macaw from small-town Minnesota, meets the fiercely independent Jewel, he takes off on an adventure to Rio de Janeiro with the bird of his dreams.
Votes: 179,705 | Gross: $143.62M
Actually funny and descent story. I wonder when Eisenberg's nerdy-neurotic style wears off. Not annoying yet.

A cowboy doll is profoundly threatened and jealous when a new spaceman figure supplants him as top toy in a boy's room.

An adaptation of Homer's great epic, the film follows the assault on Troy by the united Greek forces and chronicles the fates of the men involved.
Votes: 421,594 | Gross: $133.38M
Hmmm, maybe I should do some workout. No wonder I am single, gg
14. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
PG-13 | 105 min | Action, Drama, Sci-Fi
A substance designed to help the brain repair itself gives rise to a super-intelligent chimpanzee who leads an ape uprising.
Votes: 448,507 | Gross: $176.76M
Bonham-Carter in the Ape costume was actually very emotional in the previous 2002 ape film.
Nothing though compared to Serkis in front of the green screen. A really great development depicted from the first aggressive strains and successes to uttering the first "n" sound in "no", which is one of the many distinctions between mankind and animals, and the riot.
Good monkey business, and I am expecting a similar sequel.
15. The Hangover (2009)
R | 100 min | Comedy
Three buddies wake up from a bachelor party in Las Vegas, with no memory of the previous night and the bachelor missing. They make their way around the city in order to find their friend before his wedding.
Votes: 631,620 | Gross: $277.32M
Good immature humor without being in high school. The sequel, however, even though it had some harder jokes, was just a repeat if the same idea.
16. The Matrix (1999)
R | 136 min | Action, Sci-Fi
A computer hacker learns from mysterious rebels about the true nature of his reality and his role in the war against its controllers.
Votes: 1,369,228 | Gross: $171.48M
Despite Reeves a very good movie with great effects for that time. I still like to watch it occasionally. Unfortunately they tried to milk it once too often.

PG-13 | 115 min | Action, Mystery, Thriller
Jason Bourne dodges a ruthless CIA official and his agents from a new assassination program while searching for the origins of his life as a trained killer.

Agent J needs help so he is sent to find Agent K and restore his memory.
Votes: 288,781 | Gross: $190.42M
Smith & Jones are an unlikely but fantastic combo. Jones in a post office - LOL. Smith once again proves himself as an ironic, good mood comedy actor. In every scence I get the vibe he does not take Hollywood seriously - in a good way.
19. Ice Age (2002)
PG | 81 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy
Set during the Ice Age, a sabertooth tiger, a sloth, and a wooly mammoth find a lost human infant, and they try to return him to his tribe.

Votes: 701,135 | Gross: $141.32M
Yeah, it takes a British guy to make a descent Indian movie. Well, although, a relatively standard story this was a well made and exciting story of luck, faith, and the right choices at the right times.
22. The Dark Knight (2008)
PG-13 | 152 min | Action, Crime, Drama

Votes: 1,878,363 | Gross: $534.86M
Heath, what a tragic loss. Before joining the film set he went into hiding in a motel for about six weeks and left ready to roll as the perfect villain. The raw energy is also reflected in the camera style with an almost documentary touch.
23. Se7en (1995)
R | 127 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery
Two detectives, a rookie and a veteran, hunt a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as his motives.
Votes: 1,161,272 | Gross: $100.13M
This film has interesting twiches, and although Brad Pitt is in it attempting a acharacter role, it is actually a pretty good movie. It features some interesting twitches that keep you interested.

Votes: 1,013,415 | Gross: $120.54M
Christoph Waltz's entry card to Hollywood. Even Brad Pitt does not suck too much. I guess that is Tarantino's great influence. This is also the first generally acknowledged Third Reich movie that treats the sensitive topics in a relaxed way and even Hitler dies .
26. The Devil Wears Prada (2006)
PG-13 | 109 min | Comedy, Drama

Votes: 313,551 | Gross: $124.74M
I am a guy, and I am not gay, but I still liked this movie. Obviously not because of the fashion, but because of the great Meryl Streep. But also Hathaway and Blunt are great to watch.
