When two elderly sisters, Heather, (Hilary Mason); and Wendy, (Clelia Matania)-one of whom is psychic, gives a warning to them. John 'sees' his dead daughter wearing a red cloak down a street; 'sees' the two sisters in a funeral gondola. Is these visions real?

Frederick sees a photograph of a ruined seaside castle, which triggers a strange childhood memory. He then goes on a strange quest, aided by four female vampires, to find the castle and the beautiful woman who lives there. (88 mins.)

“ "Lèvres de sang", ("Lips of Blood"), directed by French director Jean Rollin, stars/writer Jean-Loup Philippe, (as Frédéric), who attends a lavish party. When he sees an ancient castle, (in a painting), he has a flashback to his childhoood, where as a boy, he was hiding in the same castle....where a woman named Claudine, (Claudine Beccarie), dressed in a white dress, takes him inside....Claudine, a Vampire, can't understand why, or how, he was there; Claudine disappears....

....Years pass....

Frédéric heads to the Castle, where he meets Jennifer, (Annie Belle-as "Annie Briand"), "The House at the Edge of the Park", (1979; released 1984), whose they have sex, and indulge in vampiric behavior; as the other Vampire girls head off into the darkness, to feed on the many victims they find, (including Jean Rollin-as a Cemetery Caretaker-who is bitten!).

Frédéric's Mother, (Nathalie Perrey), wants her head. But, he doesn't want her to die....They lie naked in a coffin and head out to sea. Not as gory as Rollin's other Vampire movies, "Lips of Blood", aka "Aima sta heili ton parthenon", is a classic mid 1970's Euro Vampire movie.

"Armando de Ossario's "La Noche del terror ciego", ("The Tombs of the Blind Dead", (1971), nod to George A. Romero's "The Night of the Living Dead", (1968), replaces Zombies, with 13th century skeletal Knights Templar warriors on horseback, who terrorise a Portual town, by raping women and killing people, as well as tasting human blood.

The Templars, who were killed for evil acts, were killed by crows pecking their eyes out...Now, centuries later, their time has come to get their revenge....and sacrifice their enemies.

Lone Fleming, (as Betty Turner), a woman in Portugal with her boyfriend Roger Whelan, (César Burner), and their friends, María Elena Arpón, (Helen Harp), (as Virginia White); José Thelman, (as Joseph Thelman); (as Pedro Candal); Verónica Llimera, (Nina), who all fall victims, (or try and escape from), the evil Templars....

Inspector Oliveira, (Rufino Inglés), tries to investigate the strange goings-on; Simón Arriaga, (as a Morgue Keeper)-who is scared; Prof. Candal (librarian), (Francisco Sanz), tells everyone about The Knights Templar's history; Juan Cortés, (as a Coroner)-dealing with the deaths; Antonio Orengo, (as a Train engineer); María Silva, (as Maria); and Andrés Isbert; with José Camoiras.

"Tombs of the Blind Dead" is the best early 1970's European horror movies....but not in Australia.

You can get it complete and uncut on DVD from Amazon.com. And it's rated PG!

Harry Erskine, (Tony Curtis), is a fake. He palm reads for elderly women and tells them their futures-for a price.

One day, his girlfriend Karen Tandy, (Susan Strasberg), informs him she has a tumor on her neck. Erskine, who is worried, takes her to the Hospital in San Francisco, for tests....

Dr. Jack Hughes, (Jon Cedar); and Dr. McEvoy, (Paul Mantee), are shocked....Karen's tumor is growing....on her back....

One day, Erskine's regular client, Mrs. Karmann, (Ann Sothern), then acts weirdly...She speaks in an ancient language; she then floats in the air, and falls down the stairs-dead.

When Karen's condition deteriorates, Erskine finds Dr. Snow, (Burgess Meredith), an expert in Native American history. He says that the Manitou, (or Native American demon), is waiting to be re-born....And that Erskine needs to stop it from being re-incarnated....

Erskine enlists the help of John Singing Rock, (Michael Ansara), and they intend to get rid of The Manitou....and make sure Karen Tandy is safe.

When The Manitou gets out of Karen Tandy, it kills everyone in the Hospital...Stella Stevens, (as Amelia Crusoe); Ann Newman-Mantee, (a 10th floor Nurse)-Paul Mantee's wife; Jeanette Nolan, (as Mrs. Winconis); Lurene Tuttle, (as Mrs. Herz); Hugh Corcoran, (as MacArthur); Jan Heininger, (as an orderly); Michael Laren, (as an orderly); and Neighbor.

"The Manitou" was William Girdler's final movie. He was killed in 1979, on a location shoot for another movie.

It is one of the most underrated late 1970's horror movies ever made, and one of Tony Curtis's best movies, late in his career.

“ Writer/Director Bob Kellijan's "Count Yorga, Vampire", is a AIP (American International Pictures), movie about Count Yorga, (Robert Quarry).

The movie begins with George Macready narrating the movie, talking about vampires in Los Angeles, as a coffin is brought to the area, and the superstition they invoke.

After a seance, in which Donna, (Donna Anders), tries to contact her dead Mom in her home. She, and her boyfriend, Paul, (Michael Macready), (who produced the movie), take the Count home.... After their car breaks down, they spend a night in a van, near the Count's home....As he see them making out, he hits Paul, then bites Erica in the neck....

Paul, suspecting Yorga is a Vampire, gets help; Erica is turned into a Vampire, (as she's bitten again), and join's The Count's other 'brides'....


Paul confronts the Count's servant, Brudah, (Michael Murphy)-but dies. Dr. Hayes, (Roger Perry), tries to stop the Count; the Count, the next day, hypnotises Donna....Brudah rapes her....Dr. Hayes and Michael attempt one last time to kill the Count, whose brides are in the dark basement...asleep...Until they awaken from their coffins to attack Micheal.

Michael sees the dead body of Paul, then kills Brudah....then, the Count shows Donna's mother Erica, to her....Erica is a Vampire bride too, years' ago....Count Yorga pushes a stake into her, and flees....With two Vampire brides left, Michael leaves with Donna, but she becomes a Vampire, and attacks Michael.

The Narrator then ends the movie: Quote: "Superstition", unquote. (laughs)...THE END comes on the screen...then we see Michael's bloody, dead body.

Director Jimmy Sangster's sequel to "The Vampire Lovers", (1970), has Ralph Bates, as Gilles Barton, who works at a Girls' Finishing School in 1830, headed by Mircalla, (Yutte Stensgaard), (replacing Ingrid Pitt), whose a descendant of Carmilla Karnstein, the lesbian Vampire Countess.

The Countess, who roamed in 1710, seducing girls to turn into the Undead, uses the Finishing School, to prey on the girls, to drink their blood; to bite their necks; and to spread her Evil. Can she be stopped?

With the Headmaster needing to be the Countess's disciple, Richard Lestrange, (Michael Johnson), also vie for her affections-in blood.

“ "The tools are for killing those who have sinned...."

"Dennis Donnolly's 'The Toolbox Murders', (filmed in 1977; released in 1978), when John Carpenter's "Halloween", slashed the independant horror movie audiences, stars Cameron, "Blood and Black Lace", (1964), Mitchell, as "Vance Kingsley", the owner of an apartment building in California, where women parade nude, (and a woman is nude in a bubble bath!); an Arrex is in the apartment-old 1970's decor!

Meanwhile, a woman who is drunk, is killed by a hand drill....The killer humming: Quote: "I feel like a Motherless child", unquote, after the murder. The killer wearing black colored gloves, mirror the violent giallos of early Mario Bava and Dario Argento's movies.

He also murders a woman by killing her with a claw hammer; then a woman, (who is her lesbian lover/lodger), with a screwdriver....before a neighbor....who calls the Police.

The Killer, (a Fundamentalist), wears a ski mask. His teenage daughter, Kathy, (who died years ago in flashback), as a possible reason for the murders....She was probably flaunting her sexuality, and died because she posed a threat to her father's strict religious values....(Though religion isn't a major issue here)....

The next evening, the killer murders a woman, (porn star Kelly Nichols), who masturbates in the bath, then dies by a nailgun; then a 15 year old girl called Laurie Ballard, (Pamelyn Ferdin), who is taken to the killer's home...and keeps her in her dead daughter's bed....!

With George Deaton's music score, (with country and soft rock music thrown in), "The Toolbox Murders", like "Axe", (1977), is a "Video Nasty" that became a victim of the BBFC and MPAA, and the OFLC in Australia, for sheer nastiness.

Detective Jamieson, (Tim Donnally)-the brother of the director; Laurie's mother Joanne Ballard, (Aneta Corsaut); and nephew Joey Ballard, (Nicolas Beauvy), Sgt. Cameron, (Don Diamond), attempt to solve the mystery and stop the killer, "The Toolbox Muders", even has a dildo throwing scene, that is offensive, but adds to the movie's notorious, and infamous reputation....

Starring: Wesley Eure, (as Kent Kingsley); Faith McSwain, (as Mrs. Andrews); Marciee Drake, (as Debbie); Evelyn Guerrero, (as Maria); Victoria Perry, (as Woman in the apartment); Robert Bartlett, (as Man in the apartment); Betty Cole, (as Middle Aged Woman); John Hawker, (as Middle Aged Man); and Alisa Powell, (as the Girlfriend of one of the girls in the apartment).

“ Andrea Bianchi's 1975 sleazy giallo "Nude per l'assassino", ("Strip Nude for your killer", one of the best, (according to your giallo tastes), begins with a model named Evelyn who dies after a botched abortion...When the abortionist is killed by a leather clad murderer on a motorcycle, during the night, it starts off a series of murders. Is the murderer getting revenge over the death of the model? And who is the murderer?

At the Albatross modelling agency, Carlo Bianchi, (Nino Castelnuovo), has got new models, (the same Agency that the dead model worked for)----Lucia Cerrazini , (Femi Benussi); and Magda Cortis, (Edwina Fenech)....the Assistant Photographer; the lesbian Boss, Amanda, (Gisella Montani)....When Maurizo Montani (Franco Diogene)-Amanda's husband, (who is aroused by his wife's lesbian leanings), go about their business---gay photographer, Mario, (Claudio Pellegrini), is murdered---by the knife wielding murderer.

When Maurizio makes out with Doris, (Erna Schürer), buy getting her presents then a romantic drive in Milan, but when they try to have sex, he can't quote, "Get it up", unquote, but not before his threat with a vase, changes her mind! When she leaves, he has sex with a sex doll!, before the murderer offs him!

Meanwhile, Carlo makes a move on Lucio at a pool and bar?...He hits her arse, (sexual harrassment anyone?)...then comments: Quote: "I haven't seen such a lovely face in a long time!", unquote, as she goes naked in a sauna....When she bemoans that the camera is faulty, he undresses by removing is trunks, and says: Quote: "Now it's time for you in-depth interview", unquote, in a semi-pornographic way; a lesbian says: Quote: "You bitch, you love it!", unquote, to her girlfriend; she says: Quote: "I want to be a fashion model....not a kept woman or a slave!", unquote, in amongst trippy wallpaper and nude headstands....!

Can Police Commissioner, (Lucio Como), catch the murderer?

Who can stop her?

A man tries to uncover an unconventional psychologist's therapy techniques on his institutionalized wife, amidst a series of brutal murders. (92 mins.)
“ "I want you to let your rage out....it'll be good for you"-Dr. Hal Raglan, MD.

After "Shivers", (1975); and "Rabid", (1977), David Cronenberg ended his association with John Dunning, Ivan Reitman, and others. He worked on "Fast Company", (1978), while he met Pierre David, Victor Stolnicki, and Claude Heroux, (his brother Dennis made several porn and horror movies)....

Knowing this, they signed David Cronenberg to a 3 picture deal: "Scanners"; "The Brood"; and "Videodrome"....But, Cronenberg's real life custody battle for his daughter, and divorce from his wife, mirrored Robert Benton's "Kramer vs. Kramer", (1979), with Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep...Cronenberg wanted "Scanners" to come first...but "The Brood" enter his mind; and so, "The Brood", came first....

Dr. Hal Raglan, (Oliver Reed), is a man who uses peoples rages to express themselves explicitly....He believes that if you bottle anger up...It'll destroy you; it'll rip you up inside, thus killing you slowly....Through his book, he makes Mike Trellan, (Gary McKeehan), spout his rage out....as well as Jan Hartog, (Robert (A). Silverman). Then he sees Nola Carveth, (Samantha Eggar), a rage psychotic who is in therapy. Her husband, Frank "Black Christmas", Hindle, finds welts and bruises on his daughter, Candice Carveth, (Cindy Hinds), so he confronts the Doctor, (who dismisses Frank's concerns)....Then, suddenly, "The Brood", (creatures that look human, but have claws), are Nola's "children", they commit acts of violence, including killing Candice's school teacher, Ruth Mayer, (Susan Hogan).....

When an Inspector, (Michael Magee); Barton Kelly, (Henry Beckman); Juliana Kelly, (Nuala Fitzgerald), Candice's Grandparents, are attacked by the Brood, (Felix Silla); and (John Ferguson), as they terrorise their sister, Candice, her father Frank tries to end The Brood.

He sees that his wife is the "Mother" of "The Brood", as she shows her husband her womb...that is full of deformed children....Frank flees in horror, then tries to end Dr. Raglan's "experiments"....before it is too late.

Despite the BOMB rating, by US film critic Leonard Maltin, "The Brood" is a brilliant exercise in rage behavior, that has a classic monster movie theme, that is one of the best Canadian horror movies of the late 1970's, and it made Samantha Eggar famous, with great support by Oliver Reed and Art Hindle-post "Black Christmas".

A pathology med student and a priest team up to investigate a wave of suicides blamed on sun spots and discover a number of them to be actual murders. (100 mins.)
“ Armando Crispino's "Macchie solari", ("The Victim"), aka "Autopsy", stars Mimsy "Four Flies on Grey Velvet", (1972), "Bodycount", (1988), Farmer", as Simona Sana, a Rome pathologist who teams up with Father Paul Lenox, (Barry Primus), who investigate suicides due to sun spots. But is the sun really the killer, or is a killer on the loose, performing hideous autopsies on his victims? Whatever the case, the mystery is baffling; the deaths are puzzling.

The Priest, whose sister was murdered-not a suicide victims, wants justice, before more people die.

Pete Walker made his name in Brtish horror movies in the 1970's. His brutal, nasty, violent, sexually depraved, movies like "Frightmare", (1974), or "The UK Texas Chainsaw Massacre", (and other movies), produced and directed, (with writer David McGillivray), some co-writing as well, tales of horror so evil, that the BBFC, MPAA, and OFLC, shuddered in the cinemas, as the blood, sex, gore, flowed....

"House of Whipcord", (1974), is in the "Girls needs to be punished" category: whipped until they bleed; whipped until they die.

A old man, who lives in an old house, transforns it into a, quote, "Institution for young girls", unquote, to correct their bad behavior: ie. they may talk back; they may swear; they may behave aggressively...In short, whatever the correction, you'd swear that Malcolm McDowell would come and scream like in Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange", (1971), based on the 1962 novel by Anthony Burgess, (another movie about 'correction'....

When the son of the Matron falls in love with a girl, and brings her to the whipping cross, in the house, the horror really begins.

After his doctor named Richard, (Giacomo Rossi-Stuart), from "Kill, Baby Kill", (1966), (Mario Bava), tries to make sure he's quote, "Cured", unquote.....

His wife Evelyn was killed, after flaunting her sexuality to local villagers; her husband killed her by whipping red haired girls in dungeon, as punishment as his betrayal.

Then Susan, (Erica "The Devil's Nightmare" Blanc), enters his life, the Lord's cousin, an heir to his fortune, a man named George, (Enzo Tarascio), tells her to go to the Crazy Cat Club-where she dances, (she opens a open coffin)....Alan pays her £1,000 to come to his home; Susan goes with him, and is dumped in a crypt...But is she alive?

During a seance, Susan's Aunt Agatha, (Joan C. Davis), is making out with Albert-the gardener, (Roberto Maldera), when Evelyn arrives as a ghost, (as they hear noises under the table!)....Albert is the brother of Evelyn---Richard mentions to Alan that he needs to re-marry; Alan meets Gladys, (Marina Malfatti), who's not red haired; she's a blonde!

As Aunt Agatha gets 5 blonde colored maids, she spies on them-ala Norman Bates in "Psycho", (1960)....as the horror of what happens ends in a swimming pool finale, with sulphuric acid nearby, and a fur spiral staircase!

“ "The Windows of Pain...."....

"La casa dalle finestre che ridono", ("The House with the Laughing Windows", written and directed by Pupi Avanti, stars Lino Capolicchio, (as Stefano), who arrives in an Italian town, by boat. There, he sees a Midget Mayor named Solmi, (Bob Tonelli), who wants him to finish a painting of Saint Sebastien; the painting is in a church, the artist, Legani, was described as, quote, "A good man...but has a dark soul", unquote.

The Mayor, and the chaffeur, Coppala, (Gianni Cavina), are nice at first, but unknown to Stefano, the painter paints a collage of flesh dripping blood; and blades flashing....a man hangs from the ceiling; hands bound; two robed figures cut him with their knives....he screams: quote: "God. Oh God. My colours will paint death clearly...", unquote, as he descends into madness....

A preist mentions that the church has been burnt six times. Is it cursed?


Stefano meets Antonio, (Giulio Pizzirani), who takes him to see a House with....quote, "With odd windows", unquote....Suddenly Antonio is killed by dark, shadow figures. When he tells the Police, they can't, or won't, help him.

And in mirroring "Black Christmas", (1974), Stefano experiences threatening phone calls. But this isn't a Christmas horror movie....where he stay in a Hotel. The phone caller informs him to, quote, "Let the fresco alone", unquote. Then, he sees Lidio, (Pietro Brambilla), the Village Idiot...who shows him to an old paraplegic woman, (Pina Borione), who says: Quote: "The silence....is unbearable", unquote....The next night, he hears the dead painter's voice on a tape recorder in a room, that is upstairs. Freaked out, he has a romance with a Teacher, (Vanna Busoni)-but she leaves. In her place is a young woman named Francesca, (Francesca Marciano), who lives in the house with Stefano.


Stefano learns that the painter painted death, quote, "He liked to paint people who were dying", unquote.
The painter lived with two spinsters who ruled his life, by painting laughing faces on the outer walls of the house, as a disturbed facet of their behavior; Stefano tries to get his sanity back-before he too goes mad.

Then they hear voices from the tv...and radio...Jeff McKay; Don Cummins; Jaqueline Pyle; and Lynne Bradley....Then they meet Harold, (George J. Monaghan)....

They decide to hide out in a farmhouse. A teen girl named Leslie Lee, (as Lisa), a strange girl, who lives with her invalid Grandfather, (Douglas Powers).

Lisa is known for her violence. She, at first lets her visitors, in the house. But, when Lomax and Steele try and have their way with her, and Billy as well, she decides to take her Axe...and kill them all. Blood spills on the walls; blood spills everywhere....

Smith Hart, (as a Detective); and Scott Smith, (as a Policeman), arrive as Billy is almost murdered by Lisa...and flees the farmhouse in terror....

"Axe", is a mix of Wes Craven's "Last house on the Left", (1972); and Tobe Hooper's "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", (1974)....At only 64 minutes, the movie is not gory, not a horror movie in the conventional sense, but a low budget crime thriller, with horror images.

Produced by J G Patterson, Jr., who worked with Herschell Gordon Lewis, the movie became a victim of the "Video Nasty" crackdown. If critics actually saw this movie, it wouldn't be banned; it would be a curiosity movie, that warrants a viewing...nothing more.

Hopefully it'll be released in Australia on DVD.

Gustav is in charge of stamping Vampirism from a 19th century, leading The Brotherhood, (a Group of Vampire-hunters), who try and kill off Count Karstein, (Damien Thomas), and his wife, Countess Mircala, (Katya Wyeth), once and for all....

But Freida finds a liking for the Count, and the castle, thus extending the Karstein bloodline.
