Lion - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3741834 So far Juicy's choice for Best Picture at the Oscars, and this is fair as Juicy usually sees all the best pic noms. So far this IS the best. Have not seen Moonlight or a few others, yet. Juicy is fair on Oscars and will see all, if his opinion changes, will let you know. But so far none of them are meh. Really enjoyed most. LA LA Land, not sure I enjoyed, as much as respected (music is so amazing, as acting, as are the dreams that come true, and don't, like life.)
Moonlight - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4975722
Also the animated French coming of age movie up for Best Animated

First Love - Joyce Carol Oates - http://www.amazon.com/First-Love-Joyce-Carol-Oates/dp/0880014571 From Quilty - "A dark and sure-to-be controversial little tale of Josie, eleven-years-old, who comes to stay at the home of her great-aunt in upstate New York, where her 25-year-old cousin, Jared, Jr., also resides. A seminary student on temporary leave from school, Jared, Jr. has only the most perverse plans for Josie in between his bible studies. And so one summer afternoon, by the bank of the river at the back of the house, a distinctly sadomasochistic sexual relationship blooms. A darkly erotic, almost gothic tale. With illustrations by Barry Moser."

Graham Ovenden - Childhood Streets: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1888425105 From Quilty - "When Ovenden was a teenager, he spent many weekends roaming the streets of London (mostly the East End) with his Brownie camera photographing children. Thirty-five years after the fact it is obvious that the work was not only brilliant artistically, but it constitutes an important historcal document showing, in pictorial form, life on London's streets before the social effects of "urban renewal" and the proliferation of the automobile. Some of the work is truly astounding and also presents a rarity in the history of photography: the eye of the photographer-youth."

!WARNING! Due to the nature of the movies, parents should be aware of the content of these productions. Many movies here, even though acted by children, have violence, profane language, and child nudity. Most U.S. parents do not give a s*beep*t about language and violence so Juicy will designate those movies showing the sick human child bodies and sexual content that should be avoided by placing a "H" for Hell on the comments for the movie.

31. Max und Moritz Reloaded (2005)
87 min | Action, Comedy
From brandlbua (Germany) -Highly underrated!!!!
Max und Moritz reloaded is an old story by Wilhelm Busch about two really mean brats that torture their environment and are force the tortured ones to respond. The reloaded film reinterprets the age old story in a present days German setting.
In Germany, when this film was released, the critics were not at all euphoric about it, and as far as I can tell, they were successful in keeping the crowd out of the theatres. Shame on them! This film is a hilarious farce, telling the story of two Hamburg brats, their alcoholic mother, a devoted social worker Paula (also the wet dream of the two boys) who are sent to an Eastern German boot camp. This boot camp is managed by two gay former army guys, and in a way they get to get along with each other. Of course, this takes some time, and lots of adventures are there to entertain you. But there is also the bordello master Hanne, and he gives the two boys a really hard time. Be excited to see the end of the film and what happens to Hanne and Max und Moritz! Max und Moritz reloaded is wonderfully not pc, sparkling with fine ideas, clear cut characters and a stunning rhythm. Action is followed by mind bending landscape shots, and then it goes boom again. Interspersed is the film with occasional cartoon sequences (perfect: the hilarious Paula on ice piece), and there are lots of songs integrated, also in a very nice manner. If you are a fan of justifying delight in entertainment you might even say there are some social dimensions of German life today to be found. But this does not do the film justice. It is an entertainment piece, and I think it does one thing: entertain you at its best (if you like trashy stuff).
The cast is generally good or excellent, you can see that everyone must have liked what they were doing. The most disturbing and mind-shaking appearances are by Ben Becker, who does an unbelievable job at acting as a sugar daddy. This must become a classic.
I can only hope that the DVD is as successful as this film deserves. Unfortunately, the market for trashy comedies in Germany might not be ready for this film yet (still). Everyone who thought that Goddbye Lenin was a little too slow and boring should like this film. Or maybe it simply is the film that Schlingensief simply does not know how to do? Try for yourself, sit back, relax, and be entertained! For friends of directors like Wenzel Storch and Christoph Schlingensief. For friends of films like "Frau Rettich, die Czerny und ich", "Komm süßer Tod", "Muttertag" by Roland Düringer.
A BIG TIME Juicy favorite!!!

54. Final Approach (2005 Video)
92 min | Family
A kid is convinced that the plane he p is riding in is being hijacked.
From fetchyourmovies (Australia) - Good clean family fun!
I've just watched this with my three children - 12yrs (boy), 10yrs (boy) and 8yrs (girl) and this film was good old fashioned family action adventure. Although definitely aimed at the kid market (I'd say 5 to 13)it was certainly watchable and as a parent it is a pleasure to find a movie that appeals to a broad range of ages whilst still being suitable for the whole family to watch - particularly younger children.
The story revolves around Ricky, a bit of a nerd with a vivid imagination (this can definitely be seen in his daydream sequences) who foils a kidnapping and major art theft while on on-board a flight to Washington for a school trip. Ricky's dad is an airplane mechanic, so Ricky not only knows the structure of the aircraft inside out but is also a top-gun on his computer flight simulator. This comes in handy when the pilot and co-pilot are out cold through a series of misadventures and there is no-one left to fly the plane. I don't want to give away any more of the plot.

Six teenagers with different lives and personalities attend a prominent private school with only one thing in common: their vocation and passion for music.
From noel66 -
Elite Way School is an exclusive private school with international prestige where the majority of the students are young adults with a high social and economic status. However, the school has financial aid programs for low income students with a high academic level of achievement or high athletic development.
Mía (Anahí) is the daughter of a wealthy owner of a fashion firm; she is popular, extroverted, and conceited. Through the course of the series, she falls in love with Miguel (Alfonso Herrera), a boy from a poor family from Monterrey whose purpose at Elite Way is to discover who killed his father. Completely different from Mía, there is Roberta (Dulce María) daughter of a famous singer who lives in her mothers shadow; which has caused her a low self esteem. Roberta hates rules, conventionalism, and the boy that she falls in love with: Diego (Christopher Uckermann), son of a a corrupt businessman that has never been satisfied with his son. In his fathers terms, Diego's destiny is to be a politician like him. However, his passion is music. These four teenagers along with the rest of their classmates live experiences that would influence their development intellectually as well as morally. They question their family values under the influence of their new teacher, Enrique Madariaga (Patricio Borghetti), a famous writer, who leads the students through the path of righteousness.
Specifically in the first season, RBD (musical group) is formed yet as the school year progresses; they become famous and talented musicians and everything that everyone wants to listen to.

Juicy recommends both movies, however the Original is his favorite. Once you have seen that, watch the re-make. It is also well done, however the acting is not as good. Most of the stars like Patty McCormick (the girl) in the original, had starred in the stage play before it became a movie. This gave them a tremendous feel for the characters that the re-make could not match. What is interesting about the re-make is that the there are many scenes that are shown that were just talked about in the original.

From Quilty (Edited)* - Little Darlings
(Paramount, 1980; dir. Ronald F. Maxwell)
Kristy McNichol and Tatum O'Neal compete to see who will be the first to lose her virginity at summer camp. McNichol plays Angel Bright, a tough teen from the wrong side of the tracks who goes braless. O'Neal plays Ferris Whitney, a society girl with an ugly wardrobe, who nevertheless looks great in a bikini. Angel gloms onto a boy from the camp across the lake who is pretty inexperienced himself. Ferris shoots for the camp sports instructor, but fails to corrupt him. (He claims to be oblivious to her charms but vows he'll reconsider in six years). Good supporting cast, including Alexa Kenin, Maggie Blye, May Belten and Marianne Gordon, but the show-stealer is Krista Erickson, the experienced girl who delivers the boner. Nighties, panty flash, bathing suits, sexy mouse costume.

Two obnoxious brats torture the girl, and she and her girlfriends (13-year-old Katherine Heigl & 12-year-old Sarah Joy Stevenson) rub cream on their chests to make their breasts grow! 69. Vigil (1984)
90 min | Drama
A lonely girl living on an isolated, mist-cloaked farm is confronted with the changes wrought by a stranger that arrives.
From Quilty (Edited)* - Vigil
(New Zealand 1984, dir: Vincent Ward.) 10-year-old Fiona Kay as Toss, the girl who doesn't want to be a ballerina, is great. Her father dies, a stranger arrives. She hangs out with her grandpa, a mad inventor. New Zealand looks cold and wet and deserted -- apart from the sheep. Great shots of Toss plodging about in the mire in her tutu and wellies.
From CVMC - A girl of about twelve (Fiona Kay) watches her father fall to his death while scaling down a cliff. Soon after, the poacher who fired the shot which was responsible for dad losing his balance finds himself employed by our young heroine's grandfather, working as a handyman on their farm. A love/hate relationship then develops between the leads, the lass drawn towards the man until her mother gets a bit hot for him, overcomes the resentment concerning her husband's death. The girl copes with the confusion of it all, which is exemplified by the onset of puberty, via fantasy. Dark and dreary, this one might not appeal to everyone, especially if character studies are not your thing. Yet, if you like director Vincent Ward, the often interesting images and landscapes he uses, you'll certainly wish to add this to your list. A unique film, to say the least.
70. My Girl (1991)

Though her dad runs a funeral parlor she has to learn to cope with death when Culkin dies of bee-stings. The sequel was made three years later.
71. The Cold Light of Day (1996)
101 min | Drama, Thriller
A troubled detective befriends a single woman and her daughter with the intention of using them as bait for a serial killer.
See also the remake named "The Pledge"
From Quilty (Edited)*- The Cold Light of Day
(PolyGram, 1996; dir: Rudolph van den Berg.) Well-done but highly improbably story about a cop (Richard E. Grant) who quits the force in his small Eastern European town to catch a child-killer after an innocent man 'confesses' and is found hanged in his cell. The murderer is actually a pediatrician who has ample opportunity to tend to sick kids but is so unhinged that he lives among mannequins and slits the throats of 7-year-old girls to keep them pure. I said it was implausible: He also leaves them naked without molesting them sexually, but keeps their clothing which he launders (say what?) and puts on his mannequins. The cop gets involved with the mother of Perdita Weeks, whom he uses as bait to lure the killer, and is egged on by a psychiatrist played by Heathcote Williams.
72. The Children's Hour (1961)
Not Rated | 108 min | Drama, Romance
A troublemaking student at a girls' school accuses two teachers of being lesbians.
From Quilty - The Children's Hour
(1961; dir: William Wyler; a/k/a The Loudest Whisper.) Riveting version of Lillian Hellman's play about intrigue and suggestions of Lesbianism in a girls' school. Karen Balkin and Veronica Cartwright are nasty 12-year-old girls who torment their teachers: the great Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine. Wyler had originally made the film in 1936 as These Three but remade it to bring out the lesbian theme. Reviewers found Karen more obnoxious than terrifying though, and she did not compare to Bonita Granville in the original. School uniforms.

(East Germany, 1974; dir: Frank Beyer; orig: Jakob der Lügner. COLOR [despite the measly jpg at left].) From a novel by Jurek Becker. Vlastimil Brodsky (winner of the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for his performance) is trapped in a Polish ghetto during the Second World War with thousands of other Jews facing starvation or deportation to death camps. One night he overhears a radio broadcast in Gestapo headquarters that says the Russians are only twenty kilometers away. He spreads the word and it gives hope to everyone in the ghetto. They ask him for more news and he pretends that he has access to a hidden radio. In his care is a charming 10-year-old orphan, Lina (Manuela Simon), a skinny pigtailed waif in a hand-me-down dress that's too small. He uses the fantasy of the radio to distract her from the harsh reality of their impending fate.

76. Spring Symphony (1983)
PG-13 | 103 min | Biography, Music
H" "From petershelleyau (Sydney, Australia) –
Writer director Alfred Hirschmeier's film about Clara Wieck and Robert Schumann offers a parallel between Schumann and Wieck's father, who are both seen to profit from their association with Clara, the child prodigy, and when the climactic trial takes place with Clara and Schumann suing Wieck senior for consent for them to be married, one's sympathies are divided. It isn't just that Schumann, who looks a good 10 years older than Clara Wieck, is the more unlikeable since he is always blaming his inability to compose on his poor financial position, and his love of Clara doesn't stop him from regular infidelities. There's also the queasy incestuous behaviour between the Wiecks, actor Herbert Gronemeyer who plays Schumann's facial resemblance to Nastassja Kinski's (she plays Clara) real life father Klaus, and Schumann being a student of Mr Wieck so adopting a father/son relationship. History tells us of the outcome, but we also get the suggestion that Clara's marriage also means the subjugation of her identity to her husband's. We are told that she became the greatest exponent of Schumann's music, but this sounds like a compromise for someone who could have been the greatest pianist of all time. Hirschmeier's screenplay is full of corny melodrama such as "How will this all end?", "Just think how many great musicians have come before you", "If you want my life, it is yours for the asking", "I want to melt in your music", "I was struck by a moonbeam", and the inevitable classical music comparison spoken by Schumann - "Bach has the heaviness, Mozart the lightness, Beethoven the warmth, and Schubert the darkness. What do you have? The nothingness. I have the infinity of nothingness which is greater than all things together". There is also the odd use of "house arrest" described for what we know refer to as a child being grounded. Hirschmeier provides a montage of posters for Clara's concerts, a cut from news of Schumann's inability to marry another female to Clara's performance triumph, a scene where the blind touch Kinski's hands, and a sound edit from orchestral musicians tapping to horses hooves of a moving carriage. Although this biopic may spare us the Hollywood-ised cliches of composer biopics, where the music is an extension of the artist's life, the treatment here is perhaps too reverential. As Wieck senior, Rolf Hoppe makes someone that could have been played as a villian some nice touches, with Hoppe and Kinski being a more dynamic team than Kinski and Gronemeyer. There is one scene where Kinski sits in Hoppe's lap and we watch the perverse testing of where she will allow his hands to go, in spite of his own humiliation. Kinski captures the transformation of Clara from gawky teenager to emerging beauty, and whilst there is one shot where we see her hands and body playing the piano, otherwise there is no pretence made that she is performing Clara's pieces.
