Watch them if you're bored or something, left comments on each one. =) Not going to list all the ones I've seen (that would be too many) but a few.
I also need to rewatch some films and finally watch ones I should've seen ages ago but haven't gotten round to seeing, so I'll also be adding more on later!
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Several people are hunted by a cruel serial killer who kills his victims in their dreams. While the survivors are trying to find the reason for being chosen, the murderer won't lose any chance to kill them as soon as they fall asleep. (91 mins.)
“ If you're smaller then avoid watching this at night, but when you're a little older and you learn to love Robert Englund and Freddy Krueger both, then you won't be so afraid.
This film is pretty much made of ~*~WIN~*~. ” - Ravenlich
After a space merchant vessel perceives an unknown transmission as distress call, their landing on the source moon finds one of the crew attacked by a mysterious lifeform. Continuing their journey back to Earth with the attacked crew having recovered and the critter deceased, they soon realize that its life cycle has merely begun. (117 mins.)
“ This film never gets old.
I'm serious, if you want to see merciless aliens kill random people and badass mofo facehugging things then go see it! =D ” - Ravenlich
Friday the 13th
A group of camp counselors is stalked and murdered by an unknown assailant while trying to reopen a summer camp which, years before, was the site of a child's drowning. (95 mins.)
“ Slasher film, if you don't like them then bad luck, but this franchise will always be one of my favourites and even though this film doesn't have Jason as the killer, it's still pretty good. ” - Ravenlich
Trick 'r Treat
Five interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband; and a mean old man meets his match with a demonic, supernatural trick-or-treater. (82 mins.)
“ YEAH! I advise you watch this on Halloween, just because it's only right to do so. ;)
Anyway, the film is actually executed pretty well (as are the people), and you'll find out everything in it fits together from beginning to end. ” - Ravenlich
Dawn of the Dead
A nurse, a policeman, a young married couple, a salesman, and other survivors of a worldwide plague that is producing aggressive, flesh-eating zombies, take refuge in a mega Midwestern shopping mall. (101 mins.)
“ One of the better zombie movies out there. I hadn't known that Zack Snyder (who directed Watchmen) was the director of this film until I looked it up, to my satisfied surprise. ” - Ravenlich
I Am Legend
Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles valiantly to find a cure. (101 mins.)
“ Based on a novel, I Am Legend is a not-so-traditional vampire film, taking a zombie-like plot (in the sense that a virus has turned people into infected, psychotic killers with large mouths). If you didn't like the theatrical ending so much, there's an alternate ending which is apparently closer to the source material, so Google it or something if you want to find out about it.
Even if you don't like these types of movies, Will Smith is in it, so watch it anyway. >D ” - Ravenlich
Set during the time of the first outbreak of bubonic plague in England, a young monk is given the task of learning the truth about reports of people being brought back to life in a small village. (102 mins.)
“ Unlike a lot of horrors, this film has characters you get to know before they get killed off, meaning you might actually care when someone dies.
The ending isn't so amazing but it's decent, and the film itself isn't REALLY a slasher, though it does have its gory moments.
Honestly, if you want a different kind of horror, consider giving this a watch.
All in all, this is a rather underrated film. ” - Ravenlich
A team of commandos on a mission in a Central American jungle find themselves hunted by an extraterrestrial warrior. (107 mins.)
“ More aliens! No, no, not xenomorphs. These aliens are high-tech, intelligible warriors who more closely resemble humans than xenomorphs ever will.
Well, I won't give much away but I will say that this is an excellent film worth watching. ” - Ravenlich
Shaun of the Dead
A man decides to turn his moribund life around by winning back his ex-girlfriend, reconciling his relationship with his mother, and dealing with an entire community that has returned from the dead to eat the living. (99 mins.)
“ How I love this movie, mmm. =)
It's a comedy film, but doesn't overdo it, and the comedy actually works! It's also quite emotional at times and the characters are awesome (except for one particular annoying-ass guy with glasses). How's about it, ey? If that doesn't convince you, Simon Pegg will, because that's right, he's in it. ” - Ravenlich
During a team-building retreat in the mountains a group of sales representatives are hunted down one by one. (96 mins.)
“ Another film directed by Christopher Smith is THIS ONE, and if you hadn't known earlier, he's the one who directed Black Death. O that's right, you remember now?
Anyway, this one's a real slasher, with comedic elements cleverly sewn into it to create an entertaining film. Love it or hate it, I don't really care. ” - Ravenlich
Two strangers awaken in a room with no recollection of how they got there or why, and soon discover they are pawns in a deadly game perpetrated by a notorious serial killer. (103 mins.)
“ You've heard of Saw, right? Yeah, yeah you have.
Well, now's the time to actually see it if you haven't already. No, really. Go. ” - Ravenlich
Three backpackers head to a Slovak city that promises to meet their hedonistic expectations, with no idea of the hell that awaits them. (94 mins.)
“ Ahhh, Hostel.
Yep, hostel scared the *beep* out of me when I was 11 (or 12) and has scarred me for life. It was then that I vowed I'd never go to Slovakia.
In fact, this is one of only two films that has actually made me look away (I stumbled off to bed to escape), EVER. I haven't seen it since the first time, maybe sometime soon I'll watch it again and see if anything has changed for me since then. Maybe I overreacted then? I don't know.
Anyway, the plot may not be as good as Saw, but if you like seeing gore, then alright, you will probably like it. ” - Ravenlich
An American nurse living and working in Tokyo is exposed to a mysterious supernatural curse, one that locks a person in a powerful rage before claiming their life and spreading to another victim. (91 mins.)
The Grudge is the second film that has scarred me for life.
Damn it, there's just something about it that scares the hell out of me.
I dunno, creepy-sounding/looking ghosts just don't tickle my fancy. ” - Ravenlich
After an experimental bio-weapon is released, turning thousands into zombie-like creatures, it's up to a rag-tag group of survivors to stop the infected and those behind its release. (105 mins.)
“ Strange film...
As in, very strange.
Strange but entertaining.
That is all. ” - Ravenlich
Deep Blue Sea
Searching for a cure to Alzheimer's disease a group of scientists on an isolated research facility become the bait as a trio of intelligent sharks fight back. (105 mins.)
“ I loved the part where the shark jumps out of the water and grabs -
Ok ok, I won't spoil it.
Alternative to Jaws. ” - Ravenlich
After moving into a suburban home, a couple becomes increasingly disturbed by a nightly demonic presence. (86 mins.)
“ This is NOT on this list because it's good.
In fact, I'm only putting it on this list if you want to torture yourself with this piece of crap. Like, seriously, torture yourself. It's utterly boring, the acting was terrible and I genuinely fell asleep for the first time ever while watching a movie. ” - Ravenlich
A young widower returns to his hometown to search for answers to his wife's murder, which may be linked to the ghost of a murdered ventriloquist. (89 mins.)
“ This is a rather dark film, as in it has a dark feeling throughout the whole this. Usually that would be annoying but it's actually a pretty good movie, further leading me to hate dolls/puppets etc even more.
Beware the stare of Mary Shaw...
She had no children, only dolls... ” - Ravenlich
Martin was a normal teenage boy before the country collapsed in an empty pit of economic and political disaster... (98 mins.)
“ What's this? A vampire movie with an attempt at character development...which succeeded? Not possible!
O yes, it IS possible.
Stake Land is a decent film, not the best but it's entertaining with a fair amount of killing and whatnot, and amongst all that, you'll probably only be indignant about one (implied) death. ” - Ravenlich
Sidney, attempting to cope with her mother's mysterious murder, and her horror movie-obsessed friends are stalked by an unknown killer who seems to have a hard time letting the past go. (111 mins.)
“ I love Scream. I love everything about it.
This is a slasher with a plot, and that's always a good thing, right? Yes, that's right.
Lock your doors, kiddies! ” - Ravenlich
An ex-cop and his family are the target of an evil force that is using mirrors as a gateway into their home. (110 mins.)
“ Pfft, I hated mirrors before this, and after seeing this, I hated them even more.
It's another one of those movies with a permanently-present dark feel to it, but it's entertaining to say the least. ” - Ravenlich
An unfaithful wife encounters the zombie of her dead lover; demons are pursuing him after he escaped their sadomasochistic underworld. (94 mins.)
“ Hellraiser is one hell of a film all right.
It's based on a novella - The Hellbound Heart - which you should read beforehand, and truly, it's a wonderful film. ” - Ravenlich
28 Days Later...
Four weeks after a mysterious, incurable virus spreads throughout the UK, a handful of survivors try to find sanctuary. (113 mins.)
“ Another zombie film has inched its way onto this list. I loved the characters, I loved the...zombies...
I loved everything about it.
O and if you love Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins, Inception), you get to see him butt-naked. xD ” - Ravenlich
30 Days of Night
After an Alaskan town is plunged into darkness for a month, it is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of vampires. (113 mins.)
“ As far as I know this is based on a comic book series.
Anyway, it's a vampire film, and no, no, the vampires don't fall in love with annoying, weird girls like Bella Swan. They're vicious. That's always a good thing ahaha. ” - Ravenlich
Blade forms an uneasy alliance with the vampire council in order to combat the Reapers, who are feeding on vampires. (117 mins.)
“ Anything by Guillermo del Toro is good, as is this film (rated 6.6?! What!?) which includes weird little vampire menaces called Reapers which somewhat resemble Predators AND Xenomorphs...
Stars Ron Perlman and Luke Goss who were in del Toro's second Hellboy film (which was amazing by the way). ” - Ravenlich
A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further. (103 mins.)
“ This is an alright-ish film. The first half was excellent but...the second half went down into the gutters and was lost in other crap and litter. ” - Ravenlich
A woman goes in search for her daughter within the confines of a strange, desolate town called Silent Hill. (125 mins.)
“ It truly is a weird movie, Silent Hill, but it's not all awful to be honest. It's based on a game of the same name and it features Pyramid Head, a large, freaky man with an obvious pyramid-like structure which conceals his head and an overly large butcher's knife which he puts to good use.
Don't watch it alone at night. ” - Ravenlich
After a teenager has a terrifying vision of him and his friends dying in a plane crash, he prevents the accident only to have Death hunt them down, one by one. (98 mins.)
“ I really need to catch up on this franchise...
Uh but back to the point.
After this you'll probably hope to never survive a tragic accident involving a lot of other people in fear that death will follow you and kill you gruesomely. ” - Ravenlich
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
After picking up a traumatized young hitchhiker, five friends find themselves stalked and hunted by a deformed chainsaw-wielding killer and his family of equally psychopathic killers. (98 mins.)
“ That's right, this is the remake. I didn't like the original...it became boring seeing an annoying screaming idiot run around on screen for half an hour wondering why Leatherface was still chasing her (she was screaming, duh).
Anyway, this, to me, was superior to the original. =) I hate chainsaws though. Like, I HATE them. x_x ” - Ravenlich
A caving expedition goes horribly wrong, as the explorers become trapped and ultimately pursued by a strange breed of predators. (99 mins.)
“ Damn them Crawlers, livin' in dem caves, eatin' dem people...
This is a GREAT film, and it'll make you think twice about going into some strange cave the next time you feel like doing that. ” - Ravenlich
Bloodthirsty creatures await a pack of divers who become trapped in an underwater cave network. (97 mins.)
“ The Cave is about a group of people who go into a cave which comes alive to eat them all. The cave separates into smaller, living caves which chase the people inside the mother-cave and they all die.
O, you silly things, I'm joking. ^^
It was released the same year as The Descent and is an inferior version of it, also featuring weird creatures inside a (ta da!) cave!
There's one massive motherf-cking beasty which I recall is somehow able to fly, swim and scale walls with the grace and beauty of a ballerina shot in the leg.
Turns out, every beast in the cave used to be - ” - Ravenlich
Three women are stalked by a killer with a grudge that extends back to the girls' childhoods. (85 mins.)
“ This is filled with cliches, but sometimes cliches can be fun! In fact, sometimes they can be amusing.
The antagonist in the film is literally psychopathic, with a strange infatuation with a girl who he tries to amuse by showing her some f-cked up shizzle~ ” - Ravenlich
A shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, a gun-toting tough guy trying to find the last Twinkie, and a pair of sisters trying to get to an amusement park join forces to travel across a zombie-filled America. (88 mins.)
“ Zombieland, unlike the title suggests, is about...
Ah, who am I kidding. It's about zombies, people killing zombies and zombies (attempting) to kill people.
It's a decent movie mixed with a bit of humour here and there, but not nearly as hilarious as Shaun of the Dead. ” - Ravenlich
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The spectre of a dead child rapist haunts the children of the parents who murdered him, stalking and killing them in their dreams. (95 mins.)
“ You know what? I don't CARE if you hate this. I don't CARE if this is said to be absolutely awful. I LIKE it. So much, in fact, that I will praise it like it's the most important thing in the world. >D
I know, it's not as great as the original, and that's definitely true, but it's a decent remake.
At first I wasn't sure about Jackie Earle Haley portraying Freddy instead of Robert Englund but then I watched Watchmen and got a taste of what he could do, and promptly went out of my way to see this film to find out that he's spectacular in it. It's also nice to hear Jackie's normal voice in it as well, he's actually kind of adorable LOL.
Freddy will always be one of the most legendary characters in my eyes, and Jackie didn't disappoint, neither did the other actors who danced around on screen until they were killed! =D ” - Ravenlich
The Hills Have Eyes
A suburban American family is being stalked by a group of psychotic people who live in the desert, far away from civilization. (107 mins.)
“ I need to rewatch this film some time...um...anyway, yet another film that'll probably make you think twice about going into the middle of nowhere for a holiday. Again, this isn't one of the best movies out there but it's a good way to pass the time and be entertained for a while. ” - Ravenlich
House on Haunted Hill
A millionaire offers a group of diverse people $1,000,000 to spend the night in a haunted house with a horrifying past. (93 mins.)
“ Yes, because obviously going into a giant haunted asylum for a night is a great idea. Trust me, you won't find me doing that for any amount of money. This film isn't amazing, in fact, it's not really that good at all, but when you're desperate to watch something because you're dying of boredom, you'll realise that it's not SO bad...
Features vengeful ghosts and an adopted guy! ” - Ravenlich
A vengeful spirit has taken the form of the Tooth Fairy to exact vengeance on the town that lynched her 150 years earlier. Her only opposition is the only child, now grown up, who has survived her before. (86 mins.)
“ The tooth faerie never was this scary, huh?
I heard that Doug Jones was supposed to be the tooth faerie until the film got a new director or something, and didn't realise that until after watching the film not long ago.
The film has its flaws and whatnot, and a few plot holes and questionable scenes but it's really not that bad a movie. Everyone has different opinions so don't take notice of ratings until you've watched it yourself. ” - Ravenlich
Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Alice awakes in Raccoon City, only to find it has become infested with zombies and monsters. With the help of Jill Valentine and Carlos Olivera, Alice must find a way out of the city before it is destroyed by a nuclear missile. (94 mins.)
“ So much hate for this series, but in all honesty I like it. Not only is it filled to the brim with badassery but you have to feel sorry for Nemesis, who is also really cool, even if he is the antagonist for the majority of the film. Blame Umbrella. ” - Ravenlich
Resident Evil: Extinction
Survivors of the Raccoon City catastrophe travel across the Nevada desert, hoping to make it to Alaska. Alice joins the caravan and their fight against the evil Umbrella Corp. (94 mins.)
“ Yes that's right, another RE film, with crazy desert zombies who want to kill you. ” - Ravenlich
Freddy vs. Jason
Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees return to terrorize the teenage population. Except this time, they're out to get each other, too. (97 mins.)
“ Don't hate me cause I like it, we all like different things and really, FvJ isn't bad. It has Freddy, Jason, people dying...what else do you want? <3 ” - Ravenlich
The Silence of the Lambs
A young F.B.I. cadet must confide in an incarcerated and manipulative killer to receive his help on catching another serial killer who skins his victims. (118 mins.)
“ YES, this movie is epic.
Cannibalism...ftw? =o ” - Ravenlich
A ski vacation turns horrific for a group of medical students, as they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies. (90 mins.)
“ I didn't really like the first twenty minutes, but after that it got better, and turned out to be a pretty epic film. It's not in English, so if you watch this, remember to watch with subtitles. =)
Who doesn't like nazi zombies? ” - Ravenlich
Trapped in a London subway station, a woman who's being pursued by a potential attacker heads into the unknown labyrinth of tunnels beneath the city's streets. (85 mins.)
“ Another one by Christopher Smith.
You'd think watching an annoying lady running around a railway station all night would be boring but it isn't! Sadly a good character dies, but never fear, the dog lives on!
There are a few things you might wonder about, but it's a good slasher. ” - Ravenlich
In the falangist Spain of 1944, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world. (118 mins.)
“ Why is this so far down on the list? Well, cause I was wondering whether to put this on the list at all.
To begin, this is my second favourite movie of all time, and I'll keep this short even though I want to rant on and on about it.
Pan's Labyrinth is in Spanish (so here come the subtitles) and is more of an adult-type fairy tale, with realistic elements of life merged with fantasy and horror. It grabs you in emotionally, not only with the storyline but with the characters. Horror aspects include the Pale Man, I suppose the toad, in a sense, and there are a few bits of gore scattered around as well. It doesn't overdo the horror but it doesn't underdo it either, everything is balanced.
I highly recommend it. ” - Ravenlich
A single mother gives her son a much sought after doll for his birthday, only to discover that it is possessed by the soul of a serial killer. (87 mins.)
“ It's a pretty entertaining film, though Chucky is somewhat a comedic character in my eyes. That doll has style~
Sooo, if you do happen to like possessed dolls then alright, go watch it.
If you don't, watch it anyway, you might like it. ;D ” - Ravenlich
At her new job in a rundown children's hospital, a nurse desperately tries to keep her patients safe from a plague of random, mysterious attacks. (101 mins.)
“ Fragile is just one of THOSE movies. You smirk, you facepalm, occasionally your eyes might bulge while you think 'holy crap', but this film is a mixture of both good and bad. ” - Ravenlich
House of 1000 Corpses
Two teenage couples traveling across the backwoods of Texas searching for urban legends of murder end up as prisoners of a bizarre and sadistic backwater family of serial killers. (89 mins.)
“ Another display of curios idiocy.
It proves you should probably stay away from places where there are rumoured to have been crazy people lurking about that are willing to f-cking kill you. ” - Ravenlich
Three backpackers stranded in the Australian outback are befriended by a local who turns out to be a sadistic psychopath and will plunge them into a hellish nightmare of insufferable torture. (99 mins.)
“ The majority of this film was actually boring like you wouldn't imagine. In the last half hour, though, you see how pro the killer is as he blows a guy's head off from far away! =D
No really, the last half hour wasn't so bad. ” - Ravenlich
After a famous author is rescued from a car crash by a fan of his novels, he comes to realize that the care he is receiving is only the beginning of a nightmare of captivity and abuse. (107 mins.)
“ This is more a THRILLER but you know, it's good enough.
Did you know that psychopaths are hard to kill? (You probably know this after watching the Scream films) Well anyway, the moral of the story is...
Don't be a good author. ” - Ravenlich
A small town is taken over by an alien plague, turning residents into zombies and all forms of mutant monsters. (95 mins.)
“ Truly a film worth watching, Slither proves to be a rather original film which will often leave you thinking 'wtf' at times, but never boring you. It's actually quite hilarious at times, too, which is also a good thing. It doesn't lay back with the gore, and no doubt you'll find it...intriguing. ” - Ravenlich
A monster emerges from Seoul's Han River and focuses its attention on attacking people. One victim's loving family does what it can to rescue her from its clutches. (120 mins.)
“ I can't tell you how much I laughed my head off at one certain scene at the end, but I'll leave that to you if you decide to watch it.
The Host is an odd little film but definitely entertaining, uh, but...again, subtitles!!!
Features a BEAUTIFUL creature who um...eats people... ” - Ravenlich
Ten years have passed, and Sidney Prescott, who has put herself back together thanks in part to her writing, is visited by the Ghostface Killer. (111 mins.)
“ Alright, you have to admit, Scream 4 is probably the best in the series after the original, it has comedy, death...a few Scream cliches but really, a great movie. ” - Ravenlich
A rescue crew investigates a spaceship that disappeared into a black hole and has now returned...with someone or something new on-board. (96 mins.)
“ Ah, I remember watching this when I was really young, one scene in particular where eyes are being gouged out. =D ” - Ravenlich
A commercial transport ship and its crew are marooned on a planet full of bloodthirsty creatures that only come out to feast at night. But then, they learn that a month-long eclipse is about to occur. (109 mins.)
“ I have to be honest with you, this film bored me to hell in the first half hour, then, eventually, it proved to me that it was worth waiting for. As the title suggests, there'll be a lot of darkness. ” - Ravenlich
The Sixth Sense
A boy who communicates with spirits that don't know they're dead seeks the help of a disheartened child psychologist. (107 mins.)
“ I see dead people...
If you haven't seen this already, see it.
I remember I was about six and I was watching this, thinking 'I don't get the ending' until I watched it a few years later and realised. ” - Ravenlich
A freak storm unleashes a species of blood-thirsty creatures on a small town, where a small band of citizens hole up in a supermarket and fight for their lives. (126 mins.)
“ I must say, this movie was actually better than I first thought it would be.
The name...I get confused occasionally with The Fog, which I've never seen but heard of. *facepalm*
Anyway, hilariously unfortunate ending for one of the characters, but you know, too bad. ” - Ravenlich
Still a stranger to her own body, a high school student discovers she has a physical advantage when she becomes the object of male violence. (94 mins.)
“ Not really that good a movie, good to see if you're with a few people and you want to laugh at the guys who get pwned though. ” - Ravenlich
