Director: Andrés Wood | Stars: Matías Quer, Ariel Mateluna, Manuela Martelli, Aline Küppenheim

Now this is my kind of history film. Reminiscent of Victor Erice's Franco-Era Spirit of the Beehive, Machuca focuses on the effects of war and deep political divide on young people. Using a Louis Malle-esque grayish-green palette, Andres Wood paints a heartening and real portrait of youth growing up in a muddy, chaotic world ruined by adults who are simply bigger children.

This Salzburg Festival production is one for our times. Verdi's warhorse opera streamlined for modern audiences and made provocative through its minimalist sets and daring creative choices. All of which serve to enhance the drama and the fab singing. Simply put, it's a perfect interpretation, unmissable for opera fans and fans of true art.
