A film maker's sexual disorientation jeopardizes his latest project.
Almodovar delights with a look at the meaning of desire and love. A simple, authentic Australian story about unconditional family love and loyalty. Jack Thompson and Russell Crowe are perfect in roles that blow away any hint of stereotypes. Originally a stage play (which I saw years ago), the narration to camera can take some getting used to, but well worth the effort. 7/10

A road movie about a pre-operative transsexual and her unknowing son and their complex relationship. A very unusual slice-of-dysfunctional-life drama taking you into the strange world of a Nova Scotia family living in shadow of their drunkenly abusive patriarch. A light-hearted, well acted and yes, stereotypical comedy about coming-out amidst family cultural pressures. This time, an expatriate Italian family with a gay son in Montreal. The stereotypes, both sexual and cultural aren't offensive, but rather delightful and help the light nature of the film along. 7/10

Set in the Bahamas, this expansion of the short movie Float is a slowly paced poetic love story with wonderful cinematography.
