20 Best 'Black' Comedy Films

These are comedy films written, directed by or featuring Black people - as in people of African-American, African or Black British descent. Most of the flicks listed had me in stitches and still make me laugh today.

There are none of the buddy-buddy black sidekick nonsense such as Danny Glover and Mel Gibson in the LETHAL WEAPON series (nonsense) although Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan make it by virtue of the fact both are minority ethnic - which isn't really true since there are more Chinese people on earth than anybody else, but I just thought I'd say that anyway. Truth is we loved RUSH HOUR. One day after compiling this we were forced to revise it adding Martin Lawrence in NATIONAL SECURITY which on second/third viewing proved funnier - it goes against my black cop white cop buddy-buddy rule, but it was genuinely laugh-every-few-minutes. The Eddie Murphy - Robert De Niro, and Samuel L Jackson and Emilio Estavez pairings definitely don't make this list for LETHAL WEAPON reasons and the fact they were rubbish.

All the ingredients are there inclusive of toilet humour (Witherspoon in the *beep* Carry-On style sexism (Bernie Mac's pastor) and of course the hillarious don't do drugs message (Tucker's Angel Dust experience with Hector). There's a love and triumph over evil message in there somewhere all packaged nicely into 90-odd minutes.
