TV shows Old & New - Love or Hate
Ok the show got poor ratings, it does not mean the show was bad, I liked it. it’s funny, witty and there is something about the lead character Oz (Christian Slater) that makes this work for me. He plays the boss really well but brings a touch of what I like to call the funnies with it, not 100% out and out comedy but little one liners that for me make the show. I like Christian Slater as an actor and don’t think he has been given the respect he deserves, Just take a look at his IMDB profile and you will see he has been working steady for many years.
Ok so Breaking In is pretty much a 20 minutes and change (per episode) comedy series about a security firm that gets hired to test the security of other companies and will use any means questionable or otherwise to do so. The show as it stands I think works, I would be wrong to say it’s fantastic, it’s the best think on TV etc, far from it. After watching a very short season 1 (7 episodes) I did wonder how they could continue with this show and in the start of season two all became clear and I still enjoyed watching it.
I don’t know what more to say on this review other than if you can watch it and make up your own mind, don’t take the show seriously , have fun watching it and who knows you may even find yourself laughing now and again.
RIP Breaking in….Maybe next time ” - BrettUK
After watching episode one I thought this was just a 20 minutes soft porn flick with a lot better actors, I thought the sex in the show was a little too much. Please let me state for the record right now, any hot blooded male will not take offence to a hot naked chick but if I wanted to watch porn I would not chosen this show. That said I don’t make a final judgement after one episode so I continued on and very quickly found myself at the end of season one. Well that’s it, I was hooked. The show is outstanding, at first I was worried it would have a crappy story line based around naked women and the character Hank Moody getting laid, ok that is part of it but as the episodes continue you start to see the life of the characters, not just Hank Moody’s but all of them evolve and how one man Hank Moody can affect and change things in other people lives. Ok maybe the show is not meant to be that deep but for me it worked. The characters are spot on and the entire show is completely different to what’s out there at the moment. In less than a week I have watched the entire season 1-5. That may sound like a lot but there are only 13 episodes a season and each episodes is about 20 minutes and change so it won’t take long to watch each season.
The only complaint I have about the show is about Madeleine Martin (Becca Moody), OMG please if I ever thought about doing myself in, after watching 5 season of this character I would have topped myself by now. ENOUGH of the droll voice, one tone speaking and the hard done by child, ok ok we get it you are pissed off with your parents, you are now a woman and your life is crap….BUT for *beep* sake stop with the moaning voice it’s drives me mad. I’m sure Madeleine’s a great actress (sorry have not seen her in anything I can compare it to) and let’s hope she gets to show a better side to herself in other things she does.
All the other characters in the show are great, Hank Moody is a totally great character, a little over the top at times and I believe he should have been smacked in the mouth a lot more for the *beep* he has pulled and how rude he can be but hay its only TV.
Natascha McElhone (Karen Moody) is a good solid actress, helps the fact she is smoking hot :) but her and David D seem to have something onscreen that works. The only unrealistic thing to me about Karen character is would someone have put up with the amount of *beep* Hank has given her and she still takes him back and still makes time for him. i guess some women are like that
Evan Handler (Charlie) well what can I say I find this guy funny as hell. The character is so well written for this guy I could not imagine anyone else playing the agent. I can only compare this to Jeremy Piven playing Ari Gold in Entourage, that part would not have worked with anyone else, Evan take it a compliment a big one at that.
Finally, Pamela Adlon (Marcy) what a great character she has made Marcy, funny, witty but rude, not so rude it offends but for some reason this women can say Pussy, *beep* and most other swaer words and pull it off whereas some cant. Pamela is great as Marcy and long live her character.
Overall I would rate this show very high, don’t take it to serious, it’s a bit of fun, adult only so no kids, I would defiantly recommend this to friends as I already have.
Look forward to season 6, Keep up the good work all ” - BrettUK
I have seen most of season one and thought I would review this early. (by the time anyone reads this I am sure I would have finished it) Season one is made up of 12 episodes about 30 minutes per show and as it stands I would say is about long enough.
I like the show as its different every week, I found myself looking forward to finding out how Marty will manage, con, trick, cheat or lie his way in to the next business deal. The show is in the category of a comedy but I don’t find it funny. I find this strange that is a comedy, I don’t find it funny yet I still like the show. The jokes are not your standard one liners, they are very very dry, not that well delivered and as much as I like Don Cheadle I think he would be best supporting comedy one liners as he did in the Oceans movies.
The issue I have with the show (not enough to make me stop watching it ) is they need to cram so much in to a 30 minute show that they are trying to fit home life and work life in to the characters leaving less time for you to see how the team work their magic and bag the clients. Maybe I have missed something and that’s the way they want it but for me either extend the show allowing you to show more or cut some home life and make the show more about the work. The only point of reference that springs to mind at this point is leverage (what a fantastic show) ok this is nothing like that but it’s all about the work and the end result but they do throw in some other things that seem to work and get the balance right. Maybe they could do the same with this show
Overall I like the show and think it has great potential. I enjoy watching it and it is far from the worst show on TV. With a little more thought and tweaking I think this show could be better. Season one is complete but I believe it has been renewed for a second season so let’s see how that goes. ” - BrettUK
After watching a few episode I found myself bored. The show is ok but for me there is not enough going on to keep my attention on the screen. I found myself wondering and thinking about anything other than this show. If you miss a few minutes of the show to make a coffee or use the bathroom you don’t need to pause it as not much happens anyway. I don’t rate this show as its too slow, the characters are ok and I would have to say its looks reasonably well written but it’s just not for me. Had this show been more dramatic, fast paced I would have been drawn into the show more.
Overall if you are happy to watch a show that plods along then this would be for you. I would be happy to have this show on in the background whilst doing other things and every now and again glance over to see what’s happening but that’s about as far as I would go with this show. ” - BrettUK
