1.
George Clooney
Actor, Gravity
George Timothy Clooney was born on May 6, 1961, in Lexington, Kentucky, to Nina Bruce (née Warren), a former beauty pageant queen, and Nick Clooney, a former anchorman and game show host (who was also the brother of singer Rosemary Clooney). He has Irish, English, and German ancestry. Clooney spent most of this youth in Ohio and Kentucky...
“ for THE DESCENDANTS

Even with Dujardin beating out Clooney in the SAG awards, I think Clooney is still a perennial Academy favorite. He won for Syriana even without the SAG backing him. I think it's hugely comes from the fact that Clooney is everyone's man in the industry being a director, a writer and an actor.

Not to mention that this is one real fantastic performance. He'll win and he deserves it. ” - myc4971

2.
Meryl Streep
Considered by many critics to be the greatest living actress, Meryl Streep has been nominated for the Academy Award an astonishing 20 times, and has won it three times. Meryl was born Mary Louise Streep in 1949 in Summit, New Jersey, to Mary Wolf (Wilkinson), a commercial artist, and Harry William Streep...
“ for THE IRON LADY

Frankly, I have my doubts especially since the SAG is a good precursor for Oscar's acting categories and in the last three years, SAG has predicted the acting categories 100%.

Although a big factor that can tip to Meryl's favor is that she has not won in the past twenty years or so. So if there's ever a time for the Academy to pay Meryl back, it seems this year would be the year especially when the critics and the guilds are split between Viola, Meryl and Michelle. ” - myc4971

3.
Christopher Plummer
Actor, Up
Arthur Christopher Orme Plummer was born in Toronto, Ontario. He is the only child of Isabella Mary (Abbott), a secretary to the Dean of Sciences at McGill University, and John Orme Plummer, who sold securities and stocks. He is a great-grandson of John Abbott, who was Canada's third Prime Minister (from 1891 to 1892)...
“ for BEGINNERS

With Albert Brooks out of the running, this is going to be an easy one for Christopher Plummer. And he's a first time winner! ” - myc4971

4.
Octavia Spencer
Spencer is a native of Montgomery, Alabama, which she claims is the proverbial buckle of the Bible belt. She's the sixth of seven siblings and holds a BS in Liberal Arts from Auburn University. A "closet" lover of acting, this practical Alabamian knew that she'd someday work in the film industry, but never dreamed it would be in front of the camera...
“ for THE HELP

Frankly, I think Jessica Chastain deserves this for all her hardwork and stellar performances this year. BUT, it's only Jessica's first year and she has a long career ahead of her. Octavia's performance was funny and heartfelt, a combo that's hard to beat! ” - myc4971

5.
Michel Hazanavicius
Director, The Artist
Michel Hazanavicius was born and raised in Paris, France. His grandparents were originally from Lithuania, but relocated to France in the 1920s. Hazanavicius attended art school, and moved on to work as a director for commercials and television projects. In 1999, he wrote and directed his first feature film Mes amis...
“ for THE ARTIST

I'm actually against rewarding directors who doesn't have a long body of work over directors who have earned the respect of the industry but Oscars have a long standing history of doing this (ie the director of ROCKY over Ingmar Bergman, Sidney Lumet or even Martin Scorsese who wasn't nominated for Taxi Driver).

I personally think Alexander Payne or Malick should win this but I know there's no way they'll win... ” - myc4971
