A thriller involving an ongoing unsolved mystery in Alaska, where one town has seen an extraordinary number of unexplained disappearances during the past 40 years and there are accusations of a federal cover up.
Votes: 66,733 | Gross: $25.46M
This is a pretty good film. I'm kind of a sucker for films shot from the perspective of a camcorder or similar recording device (as you'll see in the rest of my list!!
2. Forbidden Zone (1980)
R | 74 min | Comedy, Fantasy, Musical
The bizarre and musical tale of a girl who travels to another dimension through the gateway found in her family's basement.
In my opinion, this is one of the best (and weirdest) musicals ever made. A definite must-see for those who enjoy Danny Elfman and the Mystic Knights.
3. Jennifer's Body (2009)
R | 102 min | Comedy, Horror
A newly possessed high school cheerleader turns into a succubus who specializes in killing her male classmates. Can her best friend put an end to the horror?
Votes: 99,151 | Gross: $16.20M
Truthfully, this is an extremely underrated film. How many times have we seen a girl [in horror movies], possessed by a demon, strapped to a bed, while some octogenarian priest recites latin? Far too many times, I believe. In this film, Jennifer would tie YOU to a bed, and recite latin to you, and you'd like it...'til the very end. An excellent film!
4. Child's Play (1988)
R | 87 min | Horror, Thriller
A single mother gives her son a much sought-after doll for his birthday, only to discover that it is possessed by the soul of a serial killer.
Votes: 69,338 | Gross: $33.24M
This is a pretty effective horror film. It's always great to see Chucky doing his thing without unnecessary and cheesy comedy. Well, yeah, there is humor, but it's good and it's sparse.
5. The Thing (1982)
R | 109 min | Horror, Mystery, Sci-Fi
A crew in Antarctica finds a neighboring camp destroyed and its crew dead. Whatever killed them is nowhere to be found, unless it's hidden in plain sight.
Votes: 293,112 | Gross: $13.78M
This is by far one of, if not the, best horror film remake ever made. The mood is just terrifying. A truly inspired vision, depicting hell on earth, via an effective and hard-to-fight alien.
6. Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky (1991)
R | 91 min | Action, Comedy, Thriller
A young man with superhuman strength is incarcerated at a prison run by corrupt officials and seeks to use his martial arts to clean up the system.
By and large, this is one of the goriest, funniest, strangest, and craziest martial arts pictures ever made. Not for the faint of heart, but certainly for those with girded-loins.
7. Zombie (1979)
R | 91 min | Horror
Strangers searching for a young woman's missing father arrive at a tropical island where a doctor desperately searches for the cause and cure of a recent epidemic of the undead.
Arguably, this is one of the best zombie films ever made, and definitely one of Lucio Fulci's best films. Check it out...if you've got the guts!
8. Cannibal Holocaust (1980)
Unrated | 95 min | Adventure, Horror
During a rescue mission into the Amazon rainforest, a professor stumbles across lost film shot by a missing documentary crew.
In my opinion, this is the scariest film ever made. It was banned in over 50 countries for a reason.
NOTE: The film does contain real acts of animal cruelty. This film is for carnivores and omnivores only.
9. Saw (2004)
R | 103 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller
Two strangers, who awaken in a room with no recollection of how they got there, soon discover they're pawns in a deadly game perpetrated by a notorious serial killer.
Votes: 328,557 | Gross: $56.00M

Cujo, a friendly St. Bernard, contracts rabies and conducts a reign of terror on a small American town.
Votes: 30,848 | Gross: $21.20M

12. Bride of Re-Animator (1989)
R | 96 min | Comedy, Horror, Sci-Fi

13. Street Trash (1987)

15. Evilspeak (1981)
R | 97 min | Drama, Horror
An outcast military cadet taps into a way to summon demons and cast spells on his tormentors through his computer.

18. Cannibal Apocalypse (1980)

29. Passion Play (2010)
R | 94 min | Drama, Fantasy, Romance
An angel under the thumb of a ruthless gangster is saved by a trumpet player down on his luck.
Votes: 7,014 | Gross: $0.00M
This is another one of the few films in my collection that I have yet to watch. Perhaps--since it grossed less than $100,000 in the box office (domestically)--that's probably a good thing.
30. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
PG-13 | 150 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
Sam Witwicky leaves the Autobots behind for a normal life. But when his mind is filled with cryptic symbols, the Decepticons target him and he is dragged back into the Transformers' war.
Votes: 346,150 | Gross: $402.11M
It's definitely underrated. Michael Bay can be a bit...over-the-top, for lack of a better term, so it could've been worse. Much, much worse.

34. Yi boh lai beng duk (1996)
Not Rated | 98 min | Comedy, Crime, Horror
A restaurant employee wanted for murder contracts Ebola by raping a woman in South Africa and starts an outbreak there and in Hong Kong when he returns home.
An absolutely deranged film, that isn't for the weak of heart and stomach. However, the end of the film, for some reason, always makes me chuckle.
35. Gozu (2003)
R | 129 min | Crime, Drama, Horror
A yakuza enforcer is ordered to secretly drive his beloved colleague to be assassinated. But when the colleague unceremoniously disappears en route, the trip that follows is a twisted, surreal and horrifying experience.

What a strange, bizarre film. However, it is the most tolerable of the Takeshi Miike films.
36. Aliens (1986)
R | 137 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
57 years later, Ellen Ripley is rescued by a deep salvage team during her hypersleep. The moon from the original movie has been colonized, but contact is lost. This time, colonial marines have impressive firepower, but will that be enough?

An excellent film! James Cameron at his finest!

A doctor hires an escort to seduce her husband, whom she suspects of cheating, though unforeseen events put the marriage in danger.
Votes: 61,040 | Gross: $3.07M
Sexy cinema at it's finest. It has better acting and production values than "Skinemax", so why not use this film instead?
40. Alien³ (1992)
R | 114 min | Action, Horror, Sci-Fi
After her last encounter, Ellen Ripley crash-lands on Fiorina 161, a maximum security prison. When a series of strange and deadly events occur shortly after her arrival, Ripley realizes that she brought along an unwelcome visitor.
Votes: 234,386 | Gross: $55.47M
A so-so film...that is, unless you're watching the director's cut. Then, the film is a lot better, and makes more sense.
41. Dear John (I) (2010)
PG-13 | 108 min | Drama, Romance, War
A romantic drama about a soldier who falls for a conservative college student while he's home on leave.
Votes: 117,256 | Gross: $80.01M
One might notice, that I don't have very many romantic films in my collection. However, I'm secure enough to admit that I liked this film. The soundtrack was also pretty good, with Amanda Seyfried contributing another track to her musical resume.

45. Day of the Animals (1977)
PG | 97 min | Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller
A battle for survival ensues after a group of hikers encounters a chemically imbalanced forest.
Sadly, this film is probably an environmentalist's (or PETA-member's) wet-dream. It is a good film, however! How many movies can boast a scene in which the late, great Leslie Nielsen attempts to rape a woman?
46. La montagna del dio cannibale (1978)
99 min | Adventure, Horror
A girl and her brother fly to New Guinea to look for a lost expedition, led by her husband, which has vanished in the great jungle.

A brilliant but eccentric scientist begins to transform into a giant man/fly hybrid after one of his experiments goes horribly wrong.

54. Moon (2009)
R | 97 min | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi
Astronaut Sam Bell has a quintessentially personal encounter toward the end of his three-year stint on the Moon, where he, working alongside his computer, GERTY, sends back to Earth parcels of a resource that has helped diminish our planet's power problems.
Votes: 286,682 | Gross: $5.01M
This is a very well done film. The isolation it portrays is unparalleled in American cinema; only "John Carpenter's The Thing" portrays isolation as efficiently, or more so.
55. The Final Conflict (1981)
R | 108 min | Horror
The now adult Antichrist plots to eliminate his future divine opponent while a cabal of monks plot to stop him.
Votes: 15,333 | Gross: $20.47M
This is a pretty good sequel, but the ending...just isn't right. And it's certainly not theologically accurate. However, it's still a good film. And I do love the speeches Damien makes throughout the film.
56. Omen IV: The Awakening (1991 TV Movie)
Unrated | 97 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller
Two attorneys adopts a mysterious orphan girl as their daughter, unaware she is the new antichrist; next in line from Damien thorn.

PG-13 | 73 min | Comedy, Horror, Sci-Fi
Mike Nelson and his robot companions watch and give their comments about This Island Earth (1955).
Votes: 16,475 | Gross: $1.01M
A wonderfully funny film, nearly ruined by Gramercy, and largely ignored, thanks to "Barb Wire". Not as many jokes as an average "MST3k" episode, but still great!
58. The Omen (2006)
R | 110 min | Horror
An American official realizes that his young son may literally be the Devil incarnate.
Votes: 51,280 | Gross: $54.61M
A pretty good--yet, ultimately unnecessary--remake of--you guessed it--"The Omen". Good performances (and scares) abound!

Genetic engineers Clive Nicoli and Elsa Kast hope to achieve fame by successfully splicing together the DNA of different animals to create new hybrid animals for medical use.

A great horror film!
NOTE: Believe it or not, my copy of the film [on DVD] contains a gumbo recipe (along with tips on how to make great gumbo) as part of the Special Features section! How many movies currently on DVD can say that?
63. El Topo (1970)
Not Rated | 125 min | Drama, Western
A mysterious black-clad gunfighter wanders a mystical Western landscape encountering multiple bizarre characters.
Perhaps, one of the most boring, banal films I have ever seen. To the film-makers: Yeah, we get it, you know how to depict symbolism. Sheesh.
64. Christine (1983)
R | 110 min | Horror
A nerdish boy buys a strange car with an evil mind of its own and his nature starts to change to reflect it.

Let's be honest: This is a Christmas movie. That being said, it's probably the best Christmas movie ever made!
68. The Driller Killer (1979)
Not Rated | 96 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller
An artist slowly goes insane while struggling to pay his bills, work on his paintings, and care for his two female roommates, which leads him taking to the streets of New York after dark and randomly killing derelicts with a power drill.
A slow, plodding, gory thriller, made by Abel Ferrara ("Bad Lieutenant"). I still kinda like it.
69. Hausu (1977)
Not Rated | 88 min | Comedy, Horror
A schoolgirl and six of her classmates travel to her aunt's country home, which tries to devour the girls in bizarre ways.
Definitely one of the stupidest, craziest, most bizarre, and most annoying films I have ever witnessed. Watch a crazed watermelon-salesman (Seriously, Japan? There are men in Japan who only sell watermelons? That can't be a lucrative venture...) bug his eyes out! Thrill as a woman is attacked by rogue mattresses! Yawn at the lack of true scariness!
70. The Stuff (1985)

A delicious, mysterious goo that oozes from the earth is marketed as the newest dessert sensation, but the tasty treat rots more than teeth when zombie-like snackers who only want to consume more of the strange substance at any cost begin infesting the world.
You'd think that a film about killer yogurt would be stupid...but, this film is pretty well-made! I enjoyed it!

Not Rated | 90 min | Documentary, Horror
A documentary exploring 30 years of the "Friday The 13th" film series featuring all new interviews with cast and crew from all 12 films and various horror fans and filmmakers.

Battling a life depression, Earl Bassett is offered a job as a mercenary to help a Mexican oil company with a Graboid epidemic that's killing more people each day. However, the humans aren't the only ones with a new battle plan..
A wonderful follow-up to the little-known movie, "Tremors". I thoroughly enjoyed it! The sequels (and prequel) that followed...eh...not so much...
73. Mirrors (I) (2008)
R | 110 min | Horror, Mystery

If someone told me years ago that there was a film that could be simultaneously racist, misogynist, homophobic, and boring, I would've called them crazy. To use automotive terminology, this film is a "lemon".
