1. Sons of Anarchy (2008–2014)
TV-MA | 45 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller
A man in his early 30s struggles to find a balance in his life between being a new dad and his involvement in a motorcycle club.
A rough and grissly revisioning of Hamlet with Harleys, a wicked Queen, a self-centered King and an entourage of wonderful characters. Sadly the last season pulled it down.
2. Justified (2010–2015)
TV-MA | 44 min | Action, Crime, Drama
Old-school U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens is reassigned from Miami to his childhood home in the poor, rural coal-mining towns in Eastern Kentucky.
Today's Gunsmoke. The dirt of the Kentucky hills being kicked up by a no-nonsense, quick to shoot Marshall, a tough guy that got his clock tuned in the first season to show he's not superman.
3. Burn Notice (2007–2013)
TV-PG | 44 min | Action, Crime, Drama
A spy recently disavowed by the U.S. government uses his special ops training to help others in trouble.
What I consider a quilty little pleasure. In the vein of so many that have come before, a tough-guy helping the helpless with minimal, if any casualties. (think of the A-Team, et al.) But something about the pilot episode was so appraciable that it got me hooked. Plus it has Bruce Campbell in it!
4. The West Wing (1999–2006)
TV-14 | 44 min | Drama
Inside the lives of staffers in the West Wing of the White House.
Excellent writing delivered by an outstanding cast. Each and every episode provides amusement, an opportunity for reflection, and some educational point.
5. Blue Bloods (2010– )
TV-14 | 43 min | Crime, Drama
Revolves around a family of New York cops.
Wonderful cast in a show that stretches its range without trying to reach too far in any direction. The family members are just enough alike and yet just different enough to be a real family.
6. NYPD Blue (1993–2005)
TV-14 | 45 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery
Detectives from NYPD's 15th squad investigate homicides within their precinct. An Emmy award winning series.
Did an excellent job of walking that fine line between dirty-dirty cops and just doing what they had to to close cases and save lives. Not being a C.S.I. Miami fan I shudder to think how David Caruso could have ruined what turned out to be an excellent series.
7. Two and a Half Men (2003–2015)
TV-14 | 22 min | Comedy, Romance
A hedonistic jingle writer's free-wheeling life comes to an abrupt halt when his brother and 10-year-old nephew move into his beach-front house.
Yes the first few seasons were the best, but not because of or in spite of anyone in particular, except maybe Angus T. Jones and his age. The dynamics of that just allowed for so much hilarity. Now with Ashton there it is just as funny (or as not-funny depending on one's view) as the last 2 1/2 seasons with Charlie.
10. The Big Bang Theory (2007– )
TV-14 | 22 min | Comedy, Romance
A woman who moves into an apartment across the hall from two brilliant but socially awkward physicists shows them how little they know about life outside of the laboratory.
Sheldon's character is hilarious. To have thought that up, and been able to deliver it, both in writing and acting... the people responsible are astounding. The rest of the cast are equally talented of course, adding to the entire process.
12. Hawaii Five-0 (2010– )
TV-14 | 42 min | Action, Crime, Drama
Steve McGarrett returns home to Oahu, in order to find his father's killer. The Governor offers him the chance to run his own task force (Five-0).
Never saw the original but I doubt it was as fun as this. Altho I don't always like how they solve the case, I do always enjoy the relationships of the characters and the head-on-attack method of McGarrett
13. Castle (2009–2016)
TV-14 | 43 min | Comedy, Crime, Drama
After a serial killer imitates the plots of his novels, successful mystery novelist Richard "Rick" Castle receives permission from the Mayor of New York City to tag along with an NYPD homicide investigation team for research purposes.
A fun, frolick thru a police procedural.
14. M*A*S*H (1972–1983)
TV-PG | 25 min | Comedy, Drama, War
The staff of an army hospital in the Korean war find that laughter is the best way to deal with their situation.
15. Harry's Law (2011–2012)
43 min | Comedy, Crime, Drama
A group of misfit lawyers form an unconventional firm.
A re-write of Boston Legal (also on this list) by D. Kelly that might actually end up being removed from this list... The first season was great. The cases were as brassy and fun as Harry. This recent season it seems softer altho they have tried to keep it's fun with lines like "And you... Stay away from his penis."
16. Boston Legal (2004–2008)
TV-14 | 44 min | Comedy, Crime, Drama
Boston Legal is a spin-off of the long-running David E. Kelley series The Practice (1997), following the exploits of former Practice character Alan Shore (James Spader) at the legal firm of Crane, Poole, and Schmidt.
A gun-toting, hard core Republican and a left-wing, card carrying Democrat are best friends and lawyers handling some of the most bizarre cases imaginable while chasing anything in a skirt. Yes!
18. Northern Exposure (1990–1995)
60 min | Comedy, Drama, Fantasy
A newly graduated doctor is required to set up his practice in an eccentric Alaskan town.
"The fling is the thing." Especially those first couple seasons when Chris and Eds' characters were so integral to the setting.
20. White Collar (2009–2014)
TV-PG | 40 min | Comedy, Crime, Drama
A white collar criminal agrees to help the FBI catch other white collar criminals using his expertise as an art and securities thief, counterfeiter, and conman.
Another guilty pleasure. Not a lot of substinance, but a lot of fun.
21. Hell on Wheels (2011–2016)
TV-14 | 42 min | Drama, Western
Cullen Bohannon, a former soldier and slaveholder, follows the track of a band of Union soldiers, the killers of his wife. This brings him to the middle of one of the biggest projects in US... See full summary »
