- DirectorJoe JohnstonStarsChris EvansHugo WeavingSamuel L. JacksonSteve Rogers, a rejected military soldier, transforms into Captain America after taking a dose of a "Super-Soldier serum". But being Captain America comes at a price as he attempts to take down a warmonger and a terrorist organization.January 1st, 2012 - 4 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorRob ReinerStarsCary ElwesMandy PatinkinRobin WrightA bedridden boy's grandfather reads him the story of a farmboy-turned-pirate who encounters numerous obstacles, enemies and allies in his quest to be reunited with his true love.January 2nd, 2012 - 5 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorBrad BirdStarsCraig T. NelsonSamuel L. JacksonHolly HunterWhile trying to lead a quiet suburban life, a family of undercover superheroes are forced into action to save the world.January 3rd, 2012 - Argueably the finest film Pixar has made that aims at kids, but isn't afraid to address concepts such as mistrust in the government, death, relationship turmoil, and being forced to do the right thing even if it means breaking rules to do it. 4 1/2 out of 5 Stars.
- DirectorJohn BonitoStarsJohn CenaKelly CarlsonRobert PatrickA group of diamond thieves on the run kidnap the wife of a recently discharged marine who goes on a chase through the South Carolinian wilderness to retrieve her.January 4th, 2012 - "The Marine" Starring John Cena as a former marine named John (who is this guy? Tony Danza?) who has to save his kidnapped wife from jewel thieves. I can honestly say that this is the best film WWE films has made, but that's REALLY not saying much. Been there, done that effects with phoned in acting jobs. 1 and 1/2 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorJames WanStarsCary ElwesLeigh WhannellDanny GloverTwo strangers awaken in a room with no recollection of how they got there, and soon discover they're pawns in a deadly game perpetrated by a notorious serial killer.January 5th, 2012 - If Jason Vorhees and Little Slugger from 'Paranoia Agent' had a baby, it would look something like Jigsaw. A fantastic psycological thriller with plenty of gore for your average slasher fan, Saw is one of the best horror flicks made in the last decade (with one of cinema's best twist endings)...which sadly found itself watered down due to its lack-luster sequels and finding itself a lynchpin for the 'torture porn' genre. Still, its good, and I give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorDaniel LeeStarsJet LiChing Wan LauKaren MokA survivor of a supersoldier project must fight his former comrades as a masked hero.January 6th, 2012 - Jet Li stars as the title character, Black Mask, a genetically altered super soldier, is forced to fight for his life when his former commando group is revealed to the public, forcing the government to kill off all its former agents. This Hong Kong dubbed action movie is...weird. It's not bad (not at all), but it does have a habit of trading in alot of its storyline and heart for random gore shots, and its habit of often being 'lost in translation' for the heart of its story, but that could simply be blamed on the dubbing. Overall, Its decent. 2 1/2 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsElle FanningAJ MichalkaKyle ChandlerDuring the summer of 1979, a group of friends witness a train crash and investigate subsequent unexplained events in their small town.January 7th, 2012 - Set in 1979, a group of teenage fim makers accidently catch the escape of an alien on film, leading to a small town being caught in the crossfire between the governement and the creature. This film was an absolute blast. From beginning to end, pure entertainment. The chemistry between the young actors in superb, and the creature feature concept rides the line between sci-fi and scary perfectly. My only real complaint is in the creature itself. A tad bit too Cloverfieldy for me, but that's just nitpicking. 4 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorRichard DonnerStarsChristopher ReeveMargot KidderGene HackmanAn alien orphan is sent from his dying planet to Earth, where he grows up to become his adoptive home's first and greatest superhero.January 8th, 2012 - What can be said about this movie that hasn't already been said? Its a classic. The last son of the planet Krypton arrives and grows up on Earth, using his abilities far beyond those of mortal men to make the world a better place. It's the first comic book movie to truly take itself seriously, and the pioneer of the superhero film genre i...n general. One of the best comic book movies, but like all films, its not perfect. Superman's powers aren't really established (morphing into the S costume is just weird) and in all due respect to the actor, Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor SUCKS! However, Christopher Reeve's spot on role as the Man of Steel is perfect, Margot Kidder is the essential Lois Lane, and the film itself really does make you believe a man can fly. All in all, its an essential film to be viewed. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsGene HackmanChristopher ReeveMargot KidderSuperman agrees to sacrifice his powers to start a relationship with Lois Lane, unaware that three Kryptonian criminals he inadvertently released are conquering Earth.January 9th, 2012 - When three Kryptonian criminals escape from an advanced prison known as The Phantom Zone arrive on Earth, it's up to the Man of Steel to fight them off and save the day...too bad he just revealed his secret identity to Lois Lane, and gave up his abilities to be with her. This movie is the essential comic book movie. For what the original Superman... movie lacked, this flick MORE then made up for it. From the concepts touching upon love, loss, and ultimate sacrifice to having for history's mistakes, this easily stands as one of the 5 greatest comic book movies ever made. Christopher Reeve still stands as the perfect Superman, but stealing the show is Terrance Stamp as the unmistakeable General "KNEEL!" Zod. If you haven't seen this movie, SEE IT IMMEDIATLY! I cannot recommend it enough. This movie is easily 5 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsChristopher ReeveRichard PryorMargot KidderSynthetic kryptonite laced with tar splits Superman in two: good Clark Kent and bad Man of Steel.January 10th, 2012 - When a computer hacker (played by Richard Pryor) creates a synthetic Kryptonite, Superman suddenly finds himself forced to battle his own darker personality, all the while a greedy businessman builds a super computer to take control of the world's coffee and fuel supplies. *sigh* What the hell happened? Coming off of one of the greatest movies ...ever made, this flick just...blows. Pryor is HORRIBLY miscasted for this movie, which seems to have thought the minor sight gags in Superman 1 and 2 were genius, and decided to build an entire film on them. The script is a *beep* tragedy, with dozens of plot points, each one getting thrown to the sharks for bad sight gags. The only thing that actually works for this movie is Annette O'Toole bringing Lana Lang to life, and Christopher Reeve actually playing a relatively decent dark Superman...but its really nothing to write home about. All in all, 1 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorJeannot SzwarcStarsHelen SlaterFaye DunawayPeter O'TooleAfter losing a powerful orb, Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, comes to Earth to retrieve it and instead finds herself up against a wicked witch.January 11th, 2012 - When she loses a magical orb from her homeland, Kara Zor-El (cousin of Superman) must travel to Earth to somehow get it back, but gets entangled in a witch's evil plan. This movie...my god. Remember that scene in 'Revenge of the Sith' when Obi-Wan is screaming at an extra crispy Anakin because 'it wasn't supposed to be this way'? That's how I feel... about this movie. While I love the idea that the movie focuses on a Kryptonian's weakness to magic (and a not too shabby vision of life inside the Phantom Zone), everything else is just...blah. Helen Slater is good, but the story doesn't work well enough to have her be as loveable as Reeve's Superman, Faye Dunaway chews up the scenery like its made of bubblegum, Ethan the 'Janitor Love Intererst' is so beyond stupid he might as well not exist (Jimmy Olsen should have been the love interest), and everything about this film just begged to be treated with the sensitiviy and seriousness the first Superman film had. 1 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorSidney J. FurieStarsChristopher ReeveGene HackmanMargot KidderThe Man of Steel crusades for nuclear disarmament and meets Lex Luthor's latest creation, Nuclear Man.January 12th, 2012 - With the threat of nuclear war looming, Superman must square off with his evil doppleganger made of pure radiation....this may very well be the worst film in the history of cinema. Granted, the obvious cost-cutting of this film compared to the other Superman films is the main problem, but the script and storyline for this tr...ainwreck cannot be defended. The idea of Superman saying '*beep* it' and personally destroying Earth's nukes is SO out of character. Mariel Hemingway's sex pot replacement love interest for Lois Lane (who is STILL SUPERMAN'S LOVE INTEREST IN THIS MOVIE) is beyond unlikeable...and then we have Nuclear Man. Oh. Sweet. Lord. To say that this villian is laughable is an insult to all concepts of humor that have come before it. All in all, there is nothing (and I mean NOTHING) that can be saved about this movie. From beginning to end, its bad. Its 90 minutes of your life you simply cannot get back. 1/2 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsBrandon RouthKevin SpaceyKate BosworthSuperman returns to Earth after spending five years in space examining his homeworld Krypton. But he finds things have changed while he was gone, and he must once again prove himself important to the world.January 13th, 2012 - Following a 5 year exile, Superman returns to a world that seemingly no longer needs him. The best thing about this movie is also the worst thing. Director Bryan Singer (X-Men, X2) loves the original Superman movie franchise, claiming that the first movie was what originally got him into cinema...but the problem is that his love for the fir...st movie made "Superman Returns" far too much like the first movie. Storywise, everything in this flick is 'been there/done that', and considering that this is the fifth Superman movie, and his rogues gallery has barely been used is an insult to the genre. Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor is also WAY too goofy to be taken seriously, Brandon Routh and Kate Bosworth probabily weren't the best casting choices for Superman and Lois, hero vs. villain action is severly lacking but the film actually does offer some good too. The visuals are great, the concept of Lois having to move on from Superman is an interesting point, and Sam Huntington's Jimmy Olsen is probabily the best version of the character in any genre. All in all, this movie isn't fantastic, but its not horrible either. If you're not a hardcore Superman fan, you may enjoy it, but all in all, its a mediocre flick. 2 1/2 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorLauren MontgomeryBruce TimmBrandon ViettiStarsAdam BaldwinAnne HecheJames MarstersWhen LexCorps accidentally unleash a murderous creature, Doomsday, Superman meets his greatest challenge as a champion. Based on the "The Death of Superman" storyline that appeared in DC Comics' publications in the 1990s.January 14th, 2012 -As the first true full-length Superman animated movie, 'Doomsday' is...interest...ing. People have been wanting to see this story in a motion format for over a decade, but it leaves alot to the imagination. For being named after the character, Doomsday disappears from the flick pretty quickly into it. I respect the transition from storylines like 'Funeral For a Friend' and 'The Return of Superman', but rushing so much into one 75 minute film is a bit much. Also, the voice acting is good (I seem to be the only person on Earth who liked Anne Heche's Lois Lane), but a film of this magnitude was just begging to use the DCAU voices (a mistake they GREATLY made up for in later DCA movies). Also, it needs to be said: the third act of this movie...it's shat. Superman fighting an evil version of himself is done time and time again, and alot better. If the Cyborg would have been the film, I wouldn't be as bothered, but its not bad for what it is. This will probabily be the closest we'll ever get to a true "Death of Superman" movie, and for all my complaints, its still pretty good. The DCA movies are a mixed bag of good and bad (I intend of reviewing a few more throughout the year), but as for this one being the first of the franchise, its not a bad start at all. 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorEdgar WrightStarsSimon PeggNick FrostMartin FreemanAn overachieving London police sergeant is transferred to a village where the easygoing officers object to his fervor for regulations, all while a string of grisly murders strikes the town.January 15th, 2012 - This film is *beep* brilliant. Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost (Spaced, Shaun of the Dead) reunite to make a film that n...ot only satires the cop-action genre, but in the process, makes possibly one of the best films of the genre in decades. Simon Pegg is a jack-of-all-trades, seemingly to perfectly play any role thats thrown at him, in this case the 'supercop that can't be stopped'. Also, this film features Easter Eggs galore. From Lethal Weapon, to Die Hard, to pretty much every film Michael Bay has done, its a dream-film for action lovers. Not to mention that this is also one of the funniest films ever made. I can guarantee you that you'll be watching this flick laughing your ass off, or screaming '*beep* yeah' as you live vicariously through Frost and Pegg's quest for carnage. If you haven't seen it, WATCH IT IMMEDIATLY! It's *beep* awesome. *Throws 75 cents into the Swear Jar* 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorTom TykwerStarsFranka PotenteMoritz BleibtreuHerbert KnaupAfter a botched money delivery, Lola has 20 minutes to come up with 100,000 Deutschmarks.January 16th, 2012 - This film is a mixed bag for me. Franka Potente (The Bourne Identity) brings the Lola character to a cult status that coul...d very well be ranked up there with Uma Thurman's Bride, giving her a life that any less of an actress would fail to live up to. I love the storyframe (or 'runs' as they are called in this movie) telling the same story three times, yet with each time adding subtle changes and seeing the massive result that follows. However, there is one thing about this movie I can't stand: Lola's boyfriend, Manni. This guy could pretty much be considered cinema's greatest putz. First, he wants to join a German gang, then *beep* up by losing a bag of money on a subway, then threatens to rob a grocery story to make back the money he lost, and he even yells at his grandma...and Lola is supposed to be risking her life for this *beep* The hell? Anyways, I've been a fan of this flick for years and stands as one of my favorite foreign movies. If you like a subtle action flick that isn't afraid to make you think and do a couple double takes, I suggest checking it out. 3 stars out of 5.
- DirectorMichael BayStarsShia LaBeoufRosie Huntington-WhiteleyTyrese GibsonThe Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the moon, and race against the Decepticons to reach it and to learn its secrets.January 17th, 2012 - This movie...this movie...THIS *beep* MOVIE! As a lifelong Transformers fan, I've given Michael Bay three chances to win me over, and he's scr...ewed it up time and time again. Is this the best Transformers movie? Yes. But that's like saying the vomit I spewed tasted better when I overate then the vomit I spewed when I had the flu. It should come to no surprise that Shia 'Give me six months before I s**t on this flick too LaBouf's Sam is annoying, but in this movie, it's just a little more. In the first two movies, he was young and annoying. Now, he's angry and annoying. Shia could NEVER play a tough action hero, so seeing him scream at federal agents simply reminds me of Louis Stevens' tatrums on 'Even Stevens'. And let's talk about Sam's girlfriend. Here is a note to Michael Bay: STOP HIRING SUPER MODELS TO PLAY THE GIRL NEXT DOOR! There is no way in hell that Sam would EVER score a woman like Carly (and the lame ass 'pow! Medel!' pick up line...the *beep* Everything else in this movie is pretty much been there/done that Bayformers shlock. Wheelie and Brains? Annoying. Judy 'Can't Go Five Minutes without talking about my Son's Dick' Witwicky'? Annoying! The epic return of Seymour Simmers? You bet your ASS annoying! So...is there anything good in this movie? Surprisingly...yeah. The concept of the first moon landing in 1969 actually being a uncover operation to get intel on The Ark was actually an interesting way to begin the movie (except the Buzz Aldrin cameo sorta killed it. I was disappointed to not hear him say "So Barney. We hear you're kickin' ass." but whatever). Leonard Nimoy as the voice of Sentinel Prime was also a nice touch (and a direct connection to the animated Transformers movie), tough sometimes he clashed between epic nobel hero and mad scientist, and Megatron's role as being considered 'beaten and outdated' having him losing the role as leader of the Decepticons leads to a cool ironic twist during the films finale. And of course, there is Optimus Prime. I still really hate the design of Optimus (sorta hate the overkill detail of all the Transformers, actually), but Optimus is Optimus. In my eyes, he can really do very little (if any) wrong. Like I said, Transformers: Dark of the Moon is the best of the trilogy, but that is REALLY not saying anything. This is still a VERY bad movie, and the best part about its existance is a seeming finale to the franchise once and for all. I hope that one day, a better director can pick up this movie franchise and make it out to be the true love-letter to the Transformers saga that it should be. For now, all we're left with is an angry, spoiled, bitter, no-spouting Shia LaBouf, kicking Transformers 1/4th his size while he bitches about wanting to matter. For this movie, I give it a VERY annoyed 1 1/2 out of 5 stars. Bay, had you have listened to the audience, you would have hit gold time after time, but you instead focused on s***ty sight gags, stereotypes galore, explosions, and stupid sex puns. And we STILL never got the damn Transformers song.
- DirectorDavid SilvermanStarsDan CastellanetaJulie KavnerNancy CartwrightAfter Homer pollutes the town's water supply, Springfield is encased in a gigantic dome by the EPA and the Simpsons are declared fugitives.January 18th, 2012 - This movie is really good, proving that a 20+ year old TV show can ...still be clever, priceless, and funny as hell. So much of this movie screams epic, with a cast of literally hundreds, to animation effects that need to be seen to believed, to one of the funniest celebrity cameos of all time (Im not going to say who and ruin the joke). The movie, however, is not without its faults. As good as the story is, with 20 years in the making, I was slightly expecting something more, preferabily keeping the movie set in Springfield. The entire Alaska subplot seems a little pointless, leading to Homer having a spirit journey that he easily could have had in his backyard. Also, as much as I love the voice work of Albert Brooks, this film really seemed like Mr. Burn would have been a much better choice as the film's villain. Hell, there is even a throwaway gag that even points to this concept which is sadly forgotten as quickly as it was brought up. Another minor complaint I have about this movie is that it continues to remind the audience that its a movie. When Homer points at the audience and calls us 'suckers for paying for something we can easily get at home for free', it's funny as hell, but the joke gets old and tiresome once FOX advertises during the movie, and the 'to be continued...immediatly' line is rather lost on me. To my knowledge, the Simpsons has one ever had one two part special. Wouldn't it make more sense if the line was in a franchise known for its cliffhangers? Still, these are just minor nit-picking complaints to an otherwise great film. I especially love the ending (Mild-spoiler warning) in which the film finds a way to make both Homer AND Bart the heroesof the picture. Its a little known fun-fact that the 'Camp Krusty' episode of the Simpsons was the first original draft of a Simpsons movie, in which case Bart would have been the franchise character. And 15 years ago, he was. But as time went on, Homer became the standout franchise character, so for both Bart and Homer to become the breakout characters in the film's climax really pays love to the past and present of the series as a whole. There have been alot of talks about a sequel to this movie. Do I think there should be? Sure, but it needs to be the right story. After decades of stories from going to Japan, to Brazil, to Africa, to Space itself (which also would have made a great movie), what could possibly be big enough to tell as another Simpsons movie? I dunno, but I have faith that sooner or later, the genius writers of the show will figure it out, even if it takes another 20 years. Over the last decade, the Simpsons has taken alot of crap from fans and critics alike, saying that the series has become stale and unfunny, but this movie stands as proof that that isn't the case. "The Simpsons Movie" is one of the best TV Shows translated into a movie you'll find (which is an ironic statement, considering my next review), and I suggest checking it out. But be warned: this is mainly a movie for established Simpsons fans. If you've never seen an episode before (and shame on you if you haven't), you'll probabily be lost in translation, but you still might get a good chuckle here and there. Plus, they show Bart's doodle...and yes, it was weird. 4 out of 5 Stars.
- DirectorClark JohnsonStarsSamuel L. JacksonColin FarrellMichelle RodriguezAn imprisoned drug kingpin offers a huge cash reward to anyone that can break him out of police custody, and only the L.A.P.D.'s Special Weapons and Tactics team can prevent it.January 19th, 2012 - When it comes to movies based on old TV shows, you can do better, but you can also do ALOT worse (and believe me, I will be getting to those in due time...). S.W.A.T stars Colin ... See MoreFarrell as Officer Street who he and his partner, played by Jeremy Renner (oh *beep* Bullseye and Hawkeye are partners for the LAPD! What, did Brian Michael Bendis write this?) are demoted due to going against orders during a hostage situation. When Street takes the demotion, his partner, Gamble, quits out of protest, feeling like Street betrayed him in the process for not leaving with him. It is Street's new duty as head of the weapon's cage that he gets the attention of S.W.A.T team leader, Sgt. Hondo (played perfectly by Samuel L. Jackson). Under orders to build his own S.W.A.T. team, Hondo chooses Street (impressed by his knowledge of firearms and 'thinking outside the box' tactics, Officer Deke (LL Cool J), Officer McGabe , Officer Sanchez (Michelle Rodriguez, aka, the future Michelle Rodriguez Hype), and a select few others. Soon, the team learns how to work together, and prove that even the biggest misfit can be a hero when push comes to shove. The biggest problem with this movie is actually to the point where action buffs have vaguely been spoiled. Much like my "Superman Returns" review, so much of the action in this movie is 'been there, done that'. It's good, but its not all too memorable. Most of the action scenes (and there are ALOT in this flick) take up to 10 to 20 minutes to build up, then take seconds to resolve. Its hard to become invested with the film seems to suffer from a case of ADHD. Also, I like the films twist ending (SPOILER WARNING!) that Gamble was actually working for the drug-dealer with SWAT agent McGabe, but once you think about it...how the hell does this work? When did Gamble and McGabe get the chance to plot out the entire plan together? And how was it that the rest of the SWAT team didn't find out? Sadly, as much of a twist as this would have made, it doesn't seem even remotely realistic, which takes alot out of the movie. However, this movie goes have some good. Alot of good, in fact. The dialogue writing is phenominal. The viewer really can believe that these people who relatively just met could become friends so quickly. There are no wasted characters in this movie. Each and every member of the S.W.A.T team have their own characteristics and storylines, and are all very likeable. When something bad happens to them, you feel bad for them. When they try to save the day, you root for them. Also, going back to what I said, the action is somewhat predictable, but what is on the screen is really good. In the finale, the S.W.A.T team ke a limo, drive it down a bridge, explosions galore, trying to stop a hostage situation inside a plane...and it looks freakin' awesome. I dunno, maybe my complaint about the action is that alot of it is fairly realistic, and they handle situations the way most SWAT officers would (maybe not the 'Key to the City' part, but I'll let that pass because its *beep* awesome). All in all, if you're looking for a cool shoot-em-up action flick that offers alot of fun in a 'right here, right now' sorta way, check it out. It's not the ebst movie in the world, but its certainly fun. Overall, I give it a decent 3 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorDavid KoeppStarsRicky GervaisGreg KinnearTéa LeoniBertram Pincus is a man whose people skills leave much to be desired. When Pincus dies unexpectedly, but is miraculously revived after seven minutes, he wakes up to discover that he now has the annoying ability to see ghosts.January 20th, 2012 - This is probabily one of the toughest reviews I've had to write because I really REALLY wanted to enjoy this movie more then I did. It's one of those movies that stars everyone I like, specifically stars Ricky Gervais, Greg Kinnear, and Tea Leoni. Hell, its even a romantic comedy ... See Morethat goes into the supernatural genre, so it should be a slam dunk. But the problem is...its sorta a bummer. I'll be the first to admit that I don't usually like romanti comedies, and that may be the main factor to me not liking this movie, but so much of it just depresses the hell out of me. Im going to go full spoilery here, so if you don't want to know the ending to this flick, read no further...
Still with us? Fantastic. Anyways, the heart of this movie involves Greg Kinnear, who ends up getting killed in the beginning of the movie, now in the form of a ghost. Turns out that the ghosts of the world haven't passed on because they have left-over business, but because those that they loved still have left over business. Tea Leoni plays Kinnear's widow, a woman who is already engaged to another man, but still has leftover baggage from her husband's death. Gervais' character, in an attempt to do the dead's bidding to finally get them out of his hair, at first tries to break up Leoni and her fiance, but then quickly tries to win her over himself...and fails badly. It isn't until Gervais' character is killed himself again, only to be brought back, does Leoni discover that she has feelings for him, finally gets over Kinnear, and allows him to finally move on...however, at the end of the movie, once Gervais is back on his feet, Leoni is STILL not ready to persue a relationship with Gervais. Im not sure if its just me wanting a happy ending, but it simply feels really tact on, like its sad at the end simply to be sad. However, the real depressing thing about this movie is that it stars three wonderfully hilarious people, and the jokes are spread out too far and too seperate. If you have Ricky Gervais in your cast, LET HIM BE RICKY GERVAIS! "Night at the Museum" made the same mistake. Yes, there are a few moments here and there where he gives a good laugh, but try as it might, this movie is not 'The Sixth Sense', and Gervais isn't Hailey Joel Osmont. And this is absolutely nothing against Ricky Gervais. I am a HUGE fan of his work, but I would rather see him stick to his guns in the world of comedy, and maybe not so much at the 'romantic' aspect. The scenes in which he is righting wrongs through the voices of the dead (what is this? Quantum Leap?) is good, but its a little too squeky clean. Gervais' character is a bastard, and I understand that he's supposed to go through a transformation, but I personally would be more entertained if he was righting wrongs over protest, like he's doing these deeds just to get some peace and quiet. Though, this movie isn't horrible...it's not even completely bad. Greg Kinnear is at the top of his gun, smirmy, sarcastic, and an all around bastard until the films climax. He really steals the show in this one. Tea Leoni, Im afraid, suffers the same way she did in 'Fun with Dick and Jane'. She works her ass off to be funny, she really does, but it simply doesn't work. But, on the plus side, her more dramatic scenes are good. Its almost liek a bizarre opposite with Ricky Gervais. If Gervais would have brought the laughs and Leoni would have brought the drama, this would have been alot more enjoyable. I will be the first to admit that I have a huge bias with this movie. Technically, I review all of these movies with a bias, as I review more what my personal opinion of movies are as opposed to audience and critical reception. This is probabily one film that will have the biggest difference between myself and main-stream media (though what until I get my hands on Avatar...) Maybe it could be because I see so much of myself in Gervais' character, as the loveable loser who was hurt one too many times, shunning himself away from love, or it could just be my issues with romantic comedy genres. Either way, just for Ricky Gervais alone, I was expecting alot more. If you hire a smartass, let him be a smartass. But hey, that's all personal opinion. I would suggest this movie to those who are in a relationship, and just want to veg out to a rom-com, but if you are an old school 'Office' or 'Extras' fan, I would suggest avoiding it. Sadly, I give this film a less-then-average 2 out of 5 stars. - DirectorSam RaimiStarsLiam NeesonFrances McDormandColin FrielsA brilliant scientist left for dead returns to exact revenge on the people who burned him alive.January 21st, 2012 - If you loved the Spider-Man movies, you probabily owe alot of thanks to this movie. 'Darkman' was a superhero/horror project directed and ... See Morebased on a short story by Sam Raimi, creating a character who could be a love letter to both superheroes and the classic Universal Horror movies. With Sam Raimi, you're always going to have a mixed bag. Like the Evil Dead Trilogy and 'Drag Me to Hell', there is a bit of over-the-top slapstick tossed in, but does it work for an action movie? Well...surprisingly...yeah! See, one of Darkman's new found abilities is that he doesn't feel pain, but in turn, his emotions seem to compensate. When he is pissed, he is PISSED. When he's sad, his depression takes over. This little side-fact leads to alot of the Raimiesc humor, especially his full on blow up moments whenever he is called 'freak'. However, as entertaining as these moments are, sometimes, they really tend to clash with the overall storyline. Its one thing to hang from a helecopter as the villain is trying to kill you. Its another when you are screaming at traffic at the same time. I think probabily the absolute best thing about this movie is the casting for Darkman himself, Mr. Liam Neeson. It still amuses me that Darkman, Qui-Gon Jin, and Oscar Schindler are all the same person (seriously! Just think about it for a second!) Neeson is one of those actors who is best when he plays the guy in the room who is totally cool, calm, collected, then moments later, he is beating the living *beep* out of you ('Taken' anybody?) Darkman is a 'cult classic' in every sense of the word, and is enjoyable if you are looking for a basic good vs. evil type of saga with a bit of humor tossed in, and is essential to Raimi fans. 3 1/2 out of 5 Stars.
- DirectorJonathan MostowStarsBruce WillisRadha MitchellVing RhamesSet in a futuristic world where humans live in isolation and interact through surrogate robots, a cop is forced to leave his home for the first time in years in order to investigate the murders of others' surrogates.January 22nd, 2012 - In the future, humanity comes to depend on robotic humanoids to act as their eyes and ears, living their everyday lives without risk of losing personal safety. However, when these Surrogates end up being destroyed, leading to the deaths of their users, one lone cop must solve a mystery that could lead to the destruction of the human race. This movie is...okay, but also damned confusing. Based on the comic book of the same name, ... See Morethe movie follows Bruce Willis as a futuristic cop in a society that becomes overly dependant on use of avatar like robots to live everyday life. That's well and good, but the use of the Surrogates seem to become almost an addiction, with people holed up in their homes, depending on Surrogates to live their lives for them. Early on in the movie, Willis' Surrogate is destroyed by a group of human resistance leaders, seeing the concept of humans living with robotic shells as an abomination. This leads to Willis' human character stepping out into the world for the first time while trying to solve the murder of the son of Dr. Lionel Canter, the original creator of Surrogates. Eventually, the man who killed Canter's son, a human, is himself killed by the leader of the resistance known as The Prophet (played by Ving Rhames, in a less then stellar Pulp Fiction reunion with Willis). *SPOILER WARNING!!!* In the end, it's revealed the the Surrogates of Willis' partner and the Prophet himself (I will admit, the Prophet being revealed as a Surrogate himself was a good twist) were all under the control of Dr. Canter himself, seeing the use of the avatars as an addiction that must be cured, unleashing a virus across the Surrogates that will deactivate them as well as killing their users. Willis finds a way to stop the virus from killing humanity, but uses it to deactive the Surrogates, knowing first hand that it pretty much becomes a form of slavery. The Surrogates shut down, and humanity is now 'on its own' when it comes to living life. Here is my pet-peeved confusing part: early on in the movie, The Prophet (being controlled by Dr. Canter) kills his son's murder, a murder being investigated by Willis' character. But after the murdered is killed, Canter personally tells Willis that the case isn't over, and that he has to uncover the 'why' essentially bringing him to Canter's doorstep...why? If Canter tells Willis to keep searching, he leaves himself a chance to be stopped. If he would have let his son's murderer be killed with Willis seeing it first hand, Willis would have stopped investigating, figuring that justice was served. Canter pretty much did the one thing no supervillian should ever do: monologue. I know that it build up to the twist ending (ala Ace Ventura) that the guy person who wanted justice all along was the bad guy, but it also creates a MASSIVE plothole you can drive a truck through. As far as acting goes, this film is...decent. Its not poorly acted (though Bruce Willis still has his trademark 'Im too *beep* old to be doing an action movie' way to him), but none of the actors really blew me away. The special effects are pretty good. Its believeable that the eyes you are looking into is really that of an android without having to make it ultra-gimmicky like you would see in A.I. or the Terminator franchise. So, to wrap this review up, a comment that is quickly becoming a catchphrase on MOTD is 'I've seen better, but I've seen worse, and this movie represents that for comic book based movies. This movie isn't bad, but its not that great either. Im sure that it was going for a type of 'Avatar meets Terminator with a little bit of Gamer' tossed in feel, but really, this flick sorta shows why it takes most comic book movies years, even decades, to be made simply to make sure its done right (the last issue of the Surrogates comic book came out in 2006; the movie was released in 2009). If you want to watch this movie to get a Bruce Willis fix, I'd much rather suggest Pulp Fiction of any of the Die Hard movies. Like I said, this movie is okay, but it could have been quite a bit better. All in all, its an average sci-fi flick. 2 1/2 out of 5 stars seems about right.
- DirectorJan de BontStarsKeanu ReevesDennis HopperSandra BullockA young police officer must prevent a bomb exploding aboard a city bus by keeping its speed above 50 mph.January 23rd, 2012 - God, I *beep* LOVE this movie. Always have since the first time I saw it. This is one of those movies that could pretty much be flawless in my eyes. Everything about it just...works. Keanu Reeves plays Jack, a member of the LAPD who was responsible for a billion-dollar hostage situation to be ... See Moredispatched. The bomber, played by the late Dennis Hopper, creates a revenge plan to put a bomb inside of a bus that cannot go below 50 mph, wanting to not only get his money, but wants to humiliate Jack at the same time. Annie, played by Sandra Bullock, finds herself as the defacto driver of the bus, working as Jack's partner and eventual love interest. From there, its jumps over bridges, frantic car-chases, and one of cinemas most epic explosions. And even after the bus situation is taken care of, the action moves down to an out-on-control subway car. If you want something to not like about this movie, you have to look pretty freakin' hard. All the actors are on top of their game, playing both realistic people who are tossed into an impossible situation. Jeff Daniels plays Jack's best friend, and surprisingly, these two were my favorite aspect of the movie. You can really believe that these two are best friends. But, again, no movie is without its problems. As much as I love him, Dennis Hopper's role as the villain is sadly a little too goofy for my taste. Hopper's chaarcter, Payne, plays a former cop himself for the AtlantaPD, but its hard to believe that this guy would ever be a police officer. There is no good to him. Just...craziness. And I know, no baddie in an action movie should have good in them, but if your baddie is a former cop himself, then he should at least have a nugget of good in him, or at the very least, cut back on the nuttiness (Dennis Hopper, I know..., but still, just because you have Frank from "Blue Velvet" doesn't mean we should get Frank). Sandra Bullock also really impresses me in this movie, which still stands as my favorite role she has done to this day. I watch this movie with a HUGE bias just because I love it so much, but I have to be fair. Its cheesy, but extremely fun. I give "Speed" 4 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorTom LaughlinStarsTom LaughlinDelores TaylorClark HowatEx-Green Beret hapkido expert saves wild horses from being slaughtered for dog food and helps protect a desert "freedom school" for runaway.January 24th, 2012 - This 1971 movies (the most successful of the 4 Billy Jack films) stands at a bizarre crossroads between propaganda and explotation. Billy Jack is played by Tom Laughlin, who also happens ... See Moreto be the writer and director of the film (under a false name, BTW), a man who looks to defend his fellow native-American people from the bigotry and prejudism of the white people of the town, specifically the local school that teaches peace and love. Eventually, the town's sheriff's son 'crosses the line', leading to Billy taking the law into his own hand. This film is labeled as an action film...but Im not quite sure I would describe it as that. There are really only two action based scenes in the movie, with most of the violent scenes either being implied, or being shown after the fact. The action scenes are well done for their time, but sadly, they really don't age well (except for maybe the park scene in the middle, but even that has its editing issues). The acting is also good, with Laughlin's Billy Jack the type of hero you can root for and stand behind, standing as relatively realistic due to being violent in nature, but wanting to be a pacifist...though sadly, Billy Jack sorta stands as the most realistic aspect of this movie. Going back to the exploitation theme, its not just left wing, it's friggin Green Arrow left wing. Everyone in a position of power is a villain in this movie. Hell, aside from the school's teacher, everyone who is white in this movie is a villain. Concepts and stereotypical casting like that can, and will, really take you out of the movie. There are also scenes and events in this movie that exist for no real good reason. Characters get beaten and murdered for unfounded reasons, as well as a pretty nasty rape scene that seemed a little farfetched and uncalled for, even for this movies subject manner. If you are an exploitation fan (or if you're just looking for a weird propaganda film, ala Reefer Madness) you may enjoy this movie, but its been a long time since 1971, and as far as aged action movies go, you can do alot better. 2 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorHenry JoostAriel SchulmanStarsChloe CsengeryJessica Tyler BrownChristopher Nicholas SmithIn 1988, young sisters Katie and Kristi befriend an invisible entity called Toby, who resides in their home.January 25th, 2012 - A prequel to the original Paranormal Activity, I've always been a fan of this franchise, and I do hope to see more of these movies, but I would hope that three movies in, the audience would be having alot more answers then questions. As for the overall plot, you guys know the drill: ghosts are in a house, cameras are ... See Moreset up, hauntings ensue, yadda, yadda, yadda. But this time, its 1988, and we get to see Katie and Kristi (the women from PA 1 and 2, respectedly) as child, dealing with a mysterious 'imaginary friend' named Toby. However, it soon becomes apparent that 'Toby' may somehow be tied to the family's histroy with the occult. *SPOILER WARNING!!!* At the end, in a rather surprising move, the adults actually realize that its stupid to stay inside a haunted house and leave to stay with Katie and Kristi's grandmother...except she is actually a follower of 'Toby', leads to the deaths of the girls' mother and father, and bring the girls into the cult, most likelly to brainwash them and lead to the events of the current PA status quo....HUH!?! I get it. I understand. There is an actual cause and effect to the demon (I assume he'll be called 'Toby' from here on in) haunting, and that's okay, but like I said earlier, three movies in, and the teases and glimpses of what is happening in these movies are starting to get a little annoying. But, then again, its not exactly the plot that is bringing people to the theaters. Despite the 1988 high definition filming concept (I know, but this movie would look like *beep* on video tape), the POV that everyone has come to know and love is still very well done in this film, as are the jumpscares. This movie has really taken quite a few steps up since the days of doors opening and closing on their own being the main focus of the first movie, buuuuuuuut sadly aren't quite at the 'drag the woman outside and slam the door on her' effect either, but there are still great shots. Really, there are only a handful of complaints about this movie. Other then the lack of answers, it seemed really short to me as well at only 83 minutes, and like all PA movies, it relies on jumpscares, which isn't really everyone's cup of tea. If you love the franchise, mockumentary, or are just looking for mind-numbing entertainment, give it a shot. Final verdict: a decent 3 1/5 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsMichael J. FoxChristopher LloydLea ThompsonMarty McFly, a 17-year-old high school student, is accidentally sent 30 years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his close friend, the maverick scientist Doc Brown.January 26th, 2012 - Yesterday, when my computer crashed, I was in a horrible mood, so I had to watch something I knew would cheer me up. This is that movie. I've always loved the concept of time travel (I think most of us do), but one thing that always bothered me was that the concept itself ... See Morewas always treated as overly comical and never taken seriously. Yet, in this comedy, the concept has never been taken more seriously. Yes, the time machine is a DeLorean, but it actually works. However, I could go on all day about the fluff of the movie, but lets get to the big parts. This movie is pretty much perfectly acted, with Michael J. Fox playing Marty perfectly, and Christopher Lloyd stealing the show as Doc Brown. Lea Thompson and Crispin Glover hit it out of the park, essentially playing three different characters in one movie (playing George and Lorraine from the modern day, from 1955, and a third version I would dare not spoil here). The story is actually a pretty interesting concept as well, not only with the time travel concept (and a pretty nifty 'believe in yourself' moral tacked on), but it takes the idea of 'what were our parents like at our ages' and plays with it, with Marty meeting his 17 year old parents face to face. Everything about this movie just pops, and it really is one of those movies that just gets better everytime I watch it. In my eyes, it is the perfect movie, really having to nit-pick to find things I don't like about it. I would suggest this movie for anyone, and think that it should be an essential movie that everyone should see at least once. For only the third time since I've been doing this little project, I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorDean ParisotStarsTim AllenSigourney WeaverAlan RickmanThe alumni cast of a space opera television series have to play their roles as the real thing when an alien race needs their help. However, they also have to defend both Earth and the alien race from a reptilian warlord.January 27th, 2012 - During my 'Hot Fuzz' review, I stated that it's sorta ironic that a movie parodying the action genre could create one of the best action movies of all time. With 'Galaxy Quest', a movie parodying the Star Trek movie franchise actually creates one of the best Star Trek movies ever made. ... See MoreThe movie, starring Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell, Tony Shalhoub, and of course, the queen of Sci-Fi herself, Sigourney Weaver, features a tongue-and-cheek comedy about the former cast of the TV show "Galaxy Quest" who find themselves drafted by a desperate alien race to save their species from a tyrant invader, but what stars off as a simple movie playfully poking fun at the typecasting science fiction actors experience, but quickly, the movie becomes a action packed, yet extremely funny, story about these actors suddenly becoming actual, factual heroes. So much of this movie just clicks, this film standing out as perhaps Tim Allen's best role. Alan Rickman does his best Leonard Nimoy perfectly, and Sigorney Weaver nails the 'blonde sex-pot' role perfectly (and she was almost 50 friggin years old when she did the role, folks. I mean...damn!) The script is a work of art, again poking fun at the space opera genre with some of the funniest insider jokes you'll ever come across, like questioning how one is supposed to simply know that an undiscovered planet has air, or how casting an opposing race can be more stereotypical that it was originally planned. Alas, not everything about this movie is perfect. While it can be argued that its part of the movie's humor, some of the plotholes take away from the more dramatic moments of the movie, like how the Omega 13 was created, or just how deeply the 'historical transcripts' can go. Also, I hate to say it, but it needs to be said: The Thermians (good guy aliens who ask the crew for help) are *beep* I know that they were going for the humoristic 'aliens not understanding human tongue' concept, but 2 hours of that *beep* goes a long long way. So, overall, I consider Galaxy Quest as something of a parody, but its good parody. Damn good parody, in fact. Pretty much at homagee levels. I suggest this movies to Trekkies, Trekkers, Star Wars fans, and pretty much anyone who is a diehard science fiction fan. And yes, I DO hope the rumors of a sequel are true. Overall rating: 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorAlexander WittStarsMilla JovovichSienna GuilloryEric MabiusAlice wakes up in the Raccoon City hospital after the area has been overrun by zombies, and must now make it out of the city before a nuclear bomb is dropped.January 28th, 2012 - This entire franchise is a trainwreck with not a single movie actually being able to capture the real spirit of the Resident Evil games (and not helping the stereotype that 'there ... See Moreare no good video game movies' not a damn bit). However, the good news is that 'Apocalypse' is actually the best of the established movies. The bad news is that its still *beep* People have already shat on this movie time and time again, so from a non-gamers perspective, Im not going to get into the video game ideals at all, but instead, make this review sweet and to the point. The fact is, in this movie, there is one very good thing, and one very bad thing. The bad thing: surprise surprise, Milla Jovovich as Alice. Here is a little fun fact: if you have to create a main character for your video game based movie, you're already off to a bad start. Alice is worse then boring. She's cliche'. She's like every single action hero without the fun factor. Granted, Jovovich's husband, Alexander Witt is the director, but that only furthers the point of this movie existing just to make alice the hero. The typical scene is as follows: "Oh *beep* The infected are about to eat us! We're out of ammo! All hope is lost! Oh...wait...Alice jsut arrived and saved the day. Yay!" Over and over AND OVER again! Alice is made so uber badass that its pretty much standoffish! However, that leads me to the best thing about this movie (and really, one of the few good things): Sienna Guillory *beep* owns this movie as Jill Valentine. This is one of the best game-to-screen castings I've ever seen. Everytime Valentine is on screen, its badass (all the more annoying when she plays second banana to Alice). If the original movie followed this version of Valentine as the film's lead, the franchise wouldn't be in the *beep* the way it is now. This film is crap, but like I said, its the lesser of the evils (and with a 5th movie less then a year away, God have mercy on our souls...) I would suggest this movie ONLY to either a.) harcore Jill Valentine fans, or b.) fans of riffing on bad movies. Sadly, the bad violently outweighs the good. I give this flick 1 1/2 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorJeremiah S. ChechikStarsJohnny DeppMary Stuart MastersonAidan QuinnA mentally ill young woman finds her love in an eccentric man who models himself after Buster Keaton.January 28th, 2012 - I was asked to watch and review this movie on a dare, and really, considering the 'high stakes card game' scene of this movie, I can appreciate the irony. This movie is good, but Im my most humble of opinions, it falls along those difficult lines where a fluff-romantic-comedy goes for its dramatic scenes a little too hard. The character of Joon has been diagnosed with having a 'mental illness', but speaking as someone who has one myself, it somewhat seems as if the writer doesn't know that the illness' come in different shapes and sizes. Just because someone is qwirky and wears a snorkle in public doesn't mean that they will have a panic attack on a bus (and vice-versa). I really do like Mary Stuard Masterson's portrayal of Joon, and she does portray those different illnesses well, but with so much unexplained character development, it almost feels like we're getting several characters in one performace (unless the illness is MPD, which would make perfect sense.) Aidian Quinn's role as Benny is good, but I find it to also be a little too predictable and established. From the moment you meet him, you can sorta guess that he's designed to be the older brother who gets fed up with his sister, grows to love her, disowns her, then ends the movie loving her again. Its a cardboard role, but he makes it his own, and it works. Then, there is the main event: Johnny Depp as Sam...I LOVE this character. He's funny. He's charming. He's determined. There is a BIG reason why the guy who isn't even in the movie's name steals the show, because he earns it. Sam is the type of guy you would wish existed in real life. Always good for a laugh, but you can tell he is using the laughter as a means to hide some inner pain, and deals with it in a good, believeable way. This is one of the indy roles that really kicked off Depp's career, and is one of his best roles, IMO. I know that this movie is kinda a chick-flick, but the laughs are solid and enjoyable. I really do have a hard time with the more dramatic moments, and I can't help but think those moments are more for the sake of padding, but that's just my opinion, and Im a sucker for a happy ending, so I make with what I can. For a movie I was not looking forward to, I was pleasantly surprised, and give Benny and Joon a 3 out of 5.

Should I review it as a straight forward film? Should I review it as an anime? Should I break it down, bit by bit, dissecting every knook and cranny of the film, judging every second of it on its own merit? Should I review it as a comic book film? Well, luckily, everyway you look at and review this movie, its good. Damn good. I am always a little amazed by people's reaction to this movie across generations. The teenage fans seem to enjoy the violence and action, while the college crowd enjoy the deeper meaning of the movie, touching on concepts such as man's concepts towards playing God, as well as going one step further and being viewed as a God, and how that experience can turn even the brightest soul jet black. Seeing the 2001 re-dubbed version of the film, Akira stands and the best proof of animation standing as pure-film entertainment, and is easily one of those movies you can rewatch again and again and always notice something different. The animation is fluid, the voices are perfect (Johnny Yong Bosh and Wendee Lee. You CAN'T go wrong), and my only real complaint is that Akira seems like it would have been more ideal to be a series of films instead of just one (for those who haven't read the manga, there are about 6 volumes: pushing WELL over 4000 pages in this epic), but that's just nitpicking from a fan's point of view. As a film by itself however, this movie is pretty damn close to perfect. So why is it considered the greatest anime of all time? Because it is. Simple as that. I give Akira a close-to-damn-perfect 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
- DirectorJesse BagetStarsAdam HussJeremy RadinLeyla MilaniWhile driving a van through Mexico looking for a location for shooting a low budget porn, Alphonse, Steve, Dallas, Debbie, the Daisy and Jimbo get lost and meet a stranger in a remote gas station in the middle of nowhere. The man gives the directions for the nearest gas station, and advises the group to avoid the ghost town, La Sangre de Dios. Steve recalls the Mexican legend about the best Mexican wrestler, El Mascarado, who became crazy and started killing his opponents, and was sent there. The director Alphonse decides to trespass the gate of La Sangre de Dios and shoot the film in the local bar.January 31st, 2012 - I love wrestling. Maybe even more then I love movies. So naturally, a wrestling horror movie should be the perfect flick, and yes, there is some stuff to like in this flick, but you have to go through an aweful lot of stupid to get there. As far as movie killers go, El Mascarado is actually a pretty interesting, original ideas. Mexico features films about luchadores being superheroes, but to my knowledge, a luchadore killers is a new idea, and it works (its as if they are building a Mexican Captain America, and unleashes him in a wrestling ring)...the problem with this movie is that at the end of the day, the formula is still the same. A group of young-adults get trapped in (fill in the blank), partake of drugs and sex, get picked off one by one by (name of killer here), and its up to the sexy (place heroine name here) to save the day. Im begging for the horror movie that eventually breaks the mold and plays with the formula a little, but I've only come across a few. The characters are hit and miss. Lelya Milani (WWE Diva Search Runner Up, Deal or No Deal girl) is sub-par in her role as the movies heroine for two big reasons: one, in all due respect to the woman, she's really not an actress. Im pretty sure she got this role simply due to her WWE ties, and two, she's technically not even in half the movie. Early on, the gang (filming a porno...don't even get me started) has their van break down, so Lelya goes to fix it...and doesn't even come back until all the other characters are dead. It seemed like a waste and could have been used to build backstory. Alphonse, the porn director/star, is obnoxious from the moment he first appears, treating the audience by explaining what a Dirty Shanchez is (to which the audience thinks "what a cool guy! Not only do I hope he lives, but I hope I get to see him get plenty of sex and snort plenty of blow before this movie ends!"). Naturally, when his death arrives, its pleasing. Very pleasing. The two over actresses are sorta throw away characters, very little build up, so their deaths don't really hit close to home, but I will admit that the character of Steve is fun, offers most of the movie's insight, and is the most likeable character in the movie. However, it needs to be said: as laughable as Rey Mysterio (Sr, uncle to the WWE star of the same name) of a masked killer is...he actually does the role pretty well. Its silly, but his mannerisms and lack-of-voice build up his character, making the scenerio entertaining, and offers a bit of validness to the wrestling subplot. Overall, this movie is not smart, using a one-note-trick as a means to spark a new wave of life into the genre, but sorta just creates another standard slasher flick...but that doesn't mean its not entertaining or enjoyable. El Mascarado Massacre (or 'Wrestlemaniac' as the box art calls it) is a movie that is stupid, but harmless, and fun as hell in the right setting. It takes a special kind of wrestling/horror movie fan to really enjoy it, and its worth checking out if you are a fan of both franchises. Overall rating: 2 out of 5 stars.
