How I rate my movies with a keyword system

Just thinking about numbers and stars makes it difficult to rate movies consistently, so I use keywords instead to make it easier to give a rating based of what I thought.

Note, if you're not a movie nerd, a film critic or maybe a game judge, you might find the following text boring.

The keywords are:

1/10 - Rubbish
2/10 - Terrible
3/10 - Very bad
4/10 - Bad
5/10 - Unsatisfactory
6/10 - Satisfactory
7/10 - Good
8/10 - Very good
9/10 - Excellent
10/10 - Masterpiece

I list a few examples to make it clearer, but these are of course based on my own opinion. The rating system however, could be used by anyone.

I haven't actually seen any films that I've rated less than 3 stars since I usually do some research before watching something and try to avoid wasting my time. The examples I give for 1 and 2 stars are what I imagine I would rate these films if I would see them.

As you might notice, I tried to balance the list, with negative ratings between 1-5 and positive ratings between 6-10. A neutral film would be right between 5 and 6, but that of course doesn't exist.

I believe the 1-10 scale is the best for rating films, but this system could be applied to other scales. Two other common ones are 1-5 and 1-4. For 1-5, which I reckon is most common on the internet, I would just split the 1-10 scale in pairs with the keywords "Terrible", "Bad", "Average", "Good" and "Excellent".

Since the 1-4 scale is commonly used on TV and magazines by critics to help people choose what films to watch, I use verbs instead of adjectives. They are "Beware!" for 1-3, "Don't watch!" for 4-5, "Watch!" for 6-8 and "Must see!" for 9-10.

There is of course the binary "Good or bad" scale which is convenient to use, but not detailed enough in my opinion.

This system isn't perfect of course, but it does help a lot. Let me know what you think!
