1. Flash Gordon (1980)
PG | 111 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
A football player and his friends travel to the planet Mongo and find themselves fighting the tyranny of Ming the Merciless to save Earth.
I can't believe this movie bombed. I guess the 1950s special effects didn't help on the year "The Empire Strikes Back" came out. Still, it's a classic.
2. Lord of War (2005)
R | 122 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller
An arms dealer confronts the morality of his work as he is being chased by an Interpol Agent.
Votes: 263,784 | Gross: $24.15M
One of the best movies of 2005 and possibly the whole decade. Absolutely didn't deserve to bomb.
3. Streets of Fire (1984)
PG | 93 min | Action, Crime, Drama
A mercenary is hired to rescue his ex-girlfriend, a singer who has been kidnapped by a motorcycle gang.
Votes: 13,943 | Gross: $8.09M
This post-The Warriors Walter Hill rock opera was supposed to be part one of a trilogy, but people didn't go see it.
4. Planet Terror (2007)
Not Rated | 105 min | Action, Comedy, Horror
After an experimental bio-weapon is released, turning thousands into zombie-like creatures, it's up to a rag-tag group of survivors to stop the infected and those behind its release.
For the record, its companion, Quentin Tarantino's god-awful "Death Proof" did deserve to bomb.
5. Joe Versus the Volcano (1990)
PG | 102 min | Comedy, Romance
When a hypochondriac learns that he is dying, he accepts an offer to throw himself in a volcano at a tropical island, and along the way there, learns to truly live.
Votes: 30,000 | Gross: $39.40M
If you take it as face value, it's just a dumb romantic comedy with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. The message of the movie, however, is deep.
6. Dragonslayer (1981)
PG | 109 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy
A young wizarding apprentice is sent to kill a dragon which has been devouring girls from a nearby kingdom.
Votes: 11,930 | Gross: $14.11M
It was too dark and too violent for 1981 kids. The best dragon movie out there, but it bombed so bad it almost drove Disney studios to bankruptcy.
7. Gattaca (1997)
PG-13 | 106 min | Drama, Sci-Fi, Thriller
A genetically inferior man assumes the identity of a superior one in order to pursue his lifelong dream of space travel.
Votes: 241,167 | Gross: $12.34M
What is it with director Andrew Niccol? He seems to make great movies that nobody cares to watch.
8. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
PG-13 | 112 min | Action, Comedy, Romance
Scott Pilgrim must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes in order to win her heart.
Votes: 305,833 | Gross: $31.49M
Not as good as the comic book, but it was close enough
9. Highlander (1986)
R | 116 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy
An immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his immortal opponent, a murderously brutal barbarian who lusts for the fabled "Prize".
Votes: 105,791 | Gross: $5.90M
A classic that somehow bombed, but turned into a franchise.
10. The Four Feathers (2002)
PG-13 | 132 min | Adventure, Drama, Romance
A British officer resigns his post just before battle and subsequently receives four white feathers from his friends and fiancee as symbols of what they believe to be his cowardice.
Votes: 29,703 | Gross: $18.31M
