My top 10 baseball-related movies/documentaries (right now). These are the ones that are in constant-rotation in the off-season. You may notice there are 13 movies; my math-skills left me after getting plunked in the head one too many times...

1. Bull Durham (1988)

A fan who has an affair with one minor-league baseball player each season meets an up-and-coming pitcher and the experienced catcher assigned to him.
Votes: 40,087 | Gross: $50.89M
Still one of the best baseball movies ever! I'll watch it at the start of a season, after a game (especially if it was a bad game, or we're not done drinking yet), or to review Crash's keys to hitting...
2. The Final Season (2007)
PG | 119 min | Drama, Sport
Kent Stock disrupts his life to become coach of the Norway High School baseball team and try to lead them to victory.
Votes: 2,277 | Gross: $1.16M
I've always been or rooted for the underdog, and I can relate to being on teams that definitely over-achieved.
3. We Believe (2009)
103 min | Documentary, Sport
A documentary on the love affair between the city of Chicago and its baseball team, the Cubs.
I'm primarily an Angels fan, but the Cubs and Red Sox are not far behind. I picked-this dvd up on our trip to Chicago for the Halos/Cubbies series last summer. It's a great story about the lovable losers, that I've watched a couple times already.
4. 2002 World Series (2002 Video)
Not Rated | 60 min | Documentary, Family, Sport
The San Francisco Giants, seeking its first World Series title since 1954, were pitted against the Anaheim Angels, in its first World Series, in a 7 game classic marked by moonshots, Rally Monkeys, and thrilling come-from-behind finishes.
My Halos beat the Giants in seven games, after a miraculous come-back win in game 6!
5. Beer League (2006)
R | 86 min | Comedy, Sport
An unemployed slacker inspires his softball teammates to improve their game so they won't get kicked out of the local league.
Votes: 7,223 | Gross: $0.48M
This is one of my dirty secrets... Though it's about Arte's softball team, it hits home to any rec-league softball or hardball weekend-warriors. For me; it's a must-watch before a big game or tournament, with LOTS of beers and whiskey to go around. I introduced ti to a couple of buddies, and now they watch it more often than I do!
6. Field of Dreams (1989)
PG | 107 min | Drama, Family, Fantasy
An Iowa corn farmer, hearing voices, interprets them as a command to build a baseball diamond in his fields; he does, and the 1919 Chicago White Sox come.
Votes: 93,948 | Gross: $64.43M
I don't watch this one as often as I'd like to... and have only watched it ONCE with a female present... because (like most of my man-pals) tend to get choked-up at the final scenes...
7. The Rookie (2002)
G | 127 min | Drama, Family, Sport
A Texas baseball coach makes the major league after agreeing to try out if his high school team made the playoffs.
Votes: 28,480 | Gross: $75.60M
I love this movie! Especially as an old man, who's still playing hardball (with an EVEN older man as a teammate!) Love for the game never dissipates...
8. The Bad News Bears (1976)
PG | 102 min | Comedy, Drama, Family
An aging, down-on-his-luck ex-minor leaguer coaches a team of misfits in an ultra-competitive California little league.
Votes: 17,659 | Gross: $42.35M
One of the first baseball movies I ever saw. Everyone can relate to this flick about little league, and um, strange coaches. Good effort, Billy Bob, but it's the original for me.
9. Fever Pitch (2005)
PG-13 | 104 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance
Lindsay is stuck in the middle of her relationship with Ben and his passion for the Boston Red Sox.
Votes: 38,446 | Gross: $42.07M
This should actually be in the documentary-section, under 'fanatics'. I can certainly relate to missing the big game for some silly reason- weddings, childbirth, other trivial emergencies... As a Sox fan, it's a great way to re-live their miracle-run! Plus, the music is great!
10. The Sandlot (1993)
PG | 101 min | Comedy, Drama, Family
In the summer of 1962, a new kid in town is taken under the wing of a young baseball prodigy and his rowdy team, resulting in many adventures.
Votes: 64,902 | Gross: $32.42M
This is a family-favorite in my house. Gotta watch it outside by the fire-pit to start the summer off right.
11. The Natural (1984)
PG | 138 min | Drama, Sport
An unknown comes out of seemingly nowhere to become a legendary player with almost divine talent.
Votes: 37,162 | Gross: $47.95M
A great movie about about the mysticism of the game... when you have enough time to sit through the whole thing.
12. For Love of the Game (1999)
PG-13 | 137 min | Drama, Romance, Sport
A washed up pitcher flashes through his career.
Votes: 27,948 | Gross: $35.17M
Another great one about an old guy trying to hang-on to the game. Kinda sappy, but I love the game-scenes.
13. A League of Their Own (1992)
PG | 128 min | Comedy, Drama, Family
Two sisters join the first female professional baseball league and struggle to help it succeed amidst their own growing rivalry.
Votes: 78,606 | Gross: $107.53M
We had no idea this was a real league, until this movie was released... It's a rich part of the history of baseball, and Tom Hanks as the Manager just nails it!
