My top 10 baseball-related movies/documentaries (right now). These are the ones that are in constant-rotation in the off-season. You may notice there are 13 movies; my math-skills left me after getting plunked in the head one too many times...

Still one of the best baseball movies ever! I'll watch it at the start of a season, after a game (especially if it was a bad game, or we're not done drinking yet), or to review Crash's keys to hitting...

I've always been or rooted for the underdog, and I can relate to being on teams that definitely over-achieved.

A documentary on the love affair between the city of Chicago and its baseball team, the Cubs.

Director: John Scheinfeld | Stars: Gary Sinise, Lou Piniella, Ron Santo, Ryne Sandberg

I'm primarily an Angels fan, but the Cubs and Red Sox are not far behind. I picked-this dvd up on our trip to Chicago for the Halos/Cubbies series last summer. It's a great story about the lovable losers, that I've watched a couple times already.

Stars: David Eckstein, Troy Glaus, Adam Kennedy, Benji Gil

My Halos beat the Giants in seven games, after a miraculous come-back win in game 6!

An unemployed slacker inspires his softball teammates to improve their game so they won't get kicked out of the local league.

Director: Frank Sebastiano | Stars: Artie Lange, Ralph Macchio, Anthony DeSando, Cara Buono

This is one of my dirty secrets... Though it's about Arte's softball team, it hits home to any rec-league softball or hardball weekend-warriors. For me; it's a must-watch before a big game or tournament, with LOTS of beers and whiskey to go around. I introduced ti to a couple of buddies, and now they watch it more often than I do!

An Iowa corn farmer, hearing voices, interprets them as a command to build a baseball diamond in his fields; he does, and the 1919 Chicago White Sox come.

Director: Phil Alden Robinson | Stars: Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta, Amy Madigan

Votes: 93,948 | Gross: $64.43M

I don't watch this one as often as I'd like to... and have only watched it ONCE with a female present... because (like most of my man-pals) tend to get choked-up at the final scenes...

Director: John Lee Hancock | Stars: Dennis Quaid, J.D. Evermore, Rachel Griffiths, Jay Hernandez

Votes: 28,480 | Gross: $75.60M

I love this movie! Especially as an old man, who's still playing hardball (with an EVEN older man as a teammate!) Love for the game never dissipates...

Director: Michael Ritchie | Stars: Walter Matthau, Tatum O'Neal, Vic Morrow, Joyce Van Patten

Votes: 17,659 | Gross: $42.35M

One of the first baseball movies I ever saw. Everyone can relate to this flick about little league, and um, strange coaches. Good effort, Billy Bob, but it's the original for me.

Directors: Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly | Stars: Drew Barrymore, Jimmy Fallon, Jason Spevack, Jack Kehler

This should actually be in the documentary-section, under 'fanatics'. I can certainly relate to missing the big game for some silly reason- weddings, childbirth, other trivial emergencies... As a Sox fan, it's a great way to re-live their miracle-run! Plus, the music is great!

This is a family-favorite in my house. Gotta watch it outside by the fire-pit to start the summer off right.

A great movie about about the mysticism of the game... when you have enough time to sit through the whole thing.

Another great one about an old guy trying to hang-on to the game. Kinda sappy, but I love the game-scenes.

Two sisters join the first female professional baseball league and struggle to help it succeed amidst their own growing rivalry.

Director: Penny Marshall | Stars: Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Madonna

We had no idea this was a real league, until this movie was released... It's a rich part of the history of baseball, and Tom Hanks as the Manager just nails it!
