Bond
I'm bored. So I'm going to make a list of James Bond films. Why? Why not! I'm going to make this list have some purpose by saying something about each film: what I liked best or what I liked least.

- DirectorTerence YoungStarsSean ConneryUrsula AndressBernard LeeA resourceful British government agent seeks answers in a case involving the disappearance of a colleague and the disruption of the American space program. The James Bond theme is great from this film. I don't like they had a non-Asian play Dr. No. I liked the equality with Quarrel. Dr. No entertaining Bond was ultra cool at the time, before it became a hackneyed Bond stereotype.
- DirectorTerence YoungStarsSean ConneryRobert ShawLotte LenyaJames Bond willingly falls into an assassination plot involving a naive Russian beauty in order to retrieve a Soviet encryption device that was stolen by S.P.E.C.T.R.E.The 007 theme is fantastic! I love the whole train sequence. The bad guy is great, but his act when he pretends to be a British agent is pretty annoying. I guess it annoyed Bond too.
- DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsSean ConneryGert FröbeHonor BlackmanWhile investigating a gold magnate's smuggling, James Bond uncovers a plot to contaminate the Fort Knox gold reserve.By this film they had the title sequence down pat with the great title song by Shirley Bassey. I love it! I didn't really like Pussy Galore, just too crass for me. I liked Bond taking over Goldfinger's card game spying up in the hotel.
- DirectorTerence YoungStarsSean ConneryClaudine AugerAdolfo CeliJames Bond heads to the Bahamas to recover two nuclear warheads stolen by S.P.E.C.T.R.E. Agent Emilio Largo in an international extortion scheme. The sharks in the pool scene was a killer for me. I think this was the first film that I was impressed with Bond pulling out his Q gadgets at just the right time, especially that little breathing thingie in the shark pool. I got tired of the underwater battle at the end. It went on too long for me.
- DirectorVal GuestKen HughesJohn HustonStarsDavid NivenPeter SellersUrsula AndressIn an early spy spoof, aging Sir James Bond comes out of retirement to take on SMERSH.Most of this parody was terrible for me. I couldn't stand Woody Allen's Jimmy Bond at all. The end with every Hollywood backlot character joining the fight was horrid. But I did like Peter Seller's version of Bond and if Seller's had done the whole film, as was originally planned, it would have been much better. I also liked the theme.
- DirectorLewis GilbertStarsSean ConneryAkiko WakabayashiMie HamaJames Bond and the Japanese Secret Service must find and stop the true culprit of a series of space hijackings, before war is provoked between Russia and the United States. This was my first Bond film that I saw in the theater on its release. I caught the first four in re-releases in two different Saturday double features and the terrible parody on TV. The theme here haunted me and ended up being a life song for me. I was intrigued with the whole volcano thing. I didn't like Bond getting a make-over as Japanese or getting married.
- DirectorPeter R. HuntStarsGeorge LazenbyDiana RiggTelly SavalasBritish agent James Bond goes undercover to pursue the villainous Ernst Stavro Blofeld, who is planning to hold the world to ransom. This is simply my favorite Bond film. The opening theme is a glorious instrumental. The closing song is so sad. It had the best love story with Bond marrying Traci played by the Great Diana Rigg. I liked George Lazenby and thought he did a great job. I didn't like the character referencing "that other guy" at the beginning and I didn't like the curly haired girl who flirted with him at Blofeld's chalet. But I adored the skiing sequence and that was when I decided I wanted to take up that sport.
- DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsSean ConneryJill St. JohnCharles GrayA diamond smuggling investigation leads James Bond to Las Vegas where he uncovers an evil plot involving a rich business tycoon.I was thrilled that Connery was back and then was disappointed that he seemed too old for the role. I couldn't stand Jill St. John and couldn't see that it made any sense that Bond was attracted to her. I also found Bambi and Thumper to be unattractive too. I also at this time was starting to have trouble with the continuity issues surrounding Blofeld. At the time I loved the parking lot car chase. I loved Bond getting buried in a pipe and then going into the spacey plant and just bluffing his way through it.
- DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsRoger MooreYaphet KottoJane SeymourJames Bond is sent to stop a diabolically brilliant heroin magnate armed with a complex organisation and a reliable psychic tarot card reader.I had a lot of antipathy to this film. I must admit I didn't see in it the theater and only finally saw it years later on TV. I was disenchanted with the idea of Roger Moore taking over. I did like Paul's song. By the time I saw it I had come to accept Moore and enjoyed it. I liked Jane Seymour's character, the whole VooDoo theme and the work of Geoffrey Holder as Baron Samedi. I'd already seen the next film and so was ready to like the bayou chase with Sherrif Pepper in it.
- DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsRoger MooreChristopher LeeBritt EklandJames Bond is targeted by the world's most expensive assassin, while he attempts to recover sensitive solar cell technology that is being sold to the highest bidder.I went to see this in theater with a bunch of friends who wanted to go. I was still antagonistic to the Moore Bond films and wouldn't have gone except it wasn't my choice. But I actually enjoyed the film! I loved the wondrous scenery of China that was actually filmed in Phuket. I adored Miss Goodnight. I was intrigued with the whole duel between Bond and Scaramanga. I didn't like Nick Nack, but then I've always found Herve Villechaize annoying. But what most surprised me was that I liked Roger Moore!
- DirectorLewis GilbertStarsRoger MooreBarbara BachCurd JürgensJames Bond investigates the hijacking of British and Russian submarines carrying nuclear warheads, with the help of a K.G.B. agent whose lover he killed. So now I was a fan again and counted the day to see this film. I thought Moore's Bond was great here, especially when he was dressed as a commander of the U.K. Navy. I liked the little submarine and the whole thing with the big submarines. I didn't like Jaws. How much. Well read about my reaction to the next film.
- DirectorLewis GilbertStarsRoger MooreLois ChilesMichael LonsdaleJames Bond investigates the mid-air theft of a space shuttle, and discovers a plot to commit global genocide. When they promoted this film they made a big deal that Jaws was in it again. How much did I dislike Jaws? I had no desire to see this film. I didn't go to the theater. It was years later I saw it on TV. The theme song is one of my favorites. I love John Barry switching over to lush strings. I loved the Brazilian scenery. I was right about detesting Jaws, actually I wasn't right. It was worse than I could imagine, actually sappy. The outer space stuff was terrible. Except for the song this is my least favorite official Bond film.
- DirectorJohn GlenStarsRoger MooreCarole BouquetTopolSecret service agent James Bond is assigned to find a missing British vessel equipped with a weapons encryption device and prevent it from falling into enemy hands. But here Bond came back. This is the only Bond film that I saw in a Drive-In because my oldest son was a baby and we went with him. I loved the return to a more serious Bond. I liked the winter scenes in Italy and the cliffs of Greece.
- DirectorIrvin KershnerStarsSean ConneryKim BasingerKlaus Maria BrandauerA S.P.E.C.T.R.E. agent has stolen two American nuclear warheads, and James Bond must find their targets before they are detonated.I was so excited that Connery was doing Bond again. Then I went and thought, "Do think I'm stupid and can't tell this is a remake of Thunderball?" I liked Connery. I liked him on the motorcycle. I didn't like Kim Bassinger. I didn't like the plot. But boy, I loved Connery.
- DirectorJohn GlenStarsRoger MooreMaud AdamsLouis JourdanA fake Fabergé egg recovered from the body of a fellow agent leads James Bond to uncover a jewel smuggling operation led by the mysterious Octopussy, and a plot to blow up a NATO air base.Connery was so good in the unoffical Bond film released in the same year that I couldn't stand Moore in this official one. He seeme too old. Plus I found Octopussy, the character, to be repellent. It's hard to get excited about a love affair when you find one of the two repellent. But Barry did some good work on the music.
- DirectorJohn GlenStarsRoger MooreChristopher WalkenTanya RobertsThe recovery of a microchip from the body of a fellow British secret agent leads James Bond to a mad industrialist scheming to cause massive destruction.I still felt that Moore was too old and creaky for the role. But I did like this last Moore Bond. It moved at a better clip and I loved Christopher Walken's villain. The scene at the Golden Gate was captivating as was the whole Eiffel Tower stuff. But I think I actually enjoyed the Duran Duran video more.
- DirectorJohn GlenStarsTimothy DaltonMaryam d'AboJeroen KrabbéJames Bond is sent to investigate a KGB policy to kill all enemy spies, and uncovers an arms deal that potentially has major global ramifications.I was excited about Timothy Dalton taking over the role. I had fallen in love with him in Flash Gordon and was ready to adore him as Bond. The fit and start of a more serious story telling in For Your Eyes Only now was complete with the Dalton Bond. I loved the fact Bond wasn't a whoremonger anymore and had a romance instead of a fling with the leading lady. I liked them sledding on her cello. I totally believed the whole thing in the cargo plane in Afghanistan.
- DirectorJohn GlenStarsTimothy DaltonRobert DaviCarey LowellA vengeful James Bond goes rogue to infiltrate and take down the organization of a drug lord who has murdered his friend's new wife and left him near death. My oldest son who had been a baby when I saw For Your Eyes Only in the Drive-In was now an older grade school boy and I took him to see this film with me in theater. I felt like this was the final evolution of Bond from a fantasy science fiction figure to realistic, grim, believable figure with personal motivation to get the bad guy. By this time I'd read the original books and recognized that the shark tank quote, "Something he disagreed with ate him" was from "Live and Let Die."
- DirectorMartin CampbellStarsPierce BrosnanSean BeanIzabella ScorupcoYears after a friend and fellow 00 agent is killed on a joint mission, a secret space based weapons program known as "GoldenEye" is stolen. James Bond is assigned to stop a Russian crime syndicate from using the weapon. When I think of GoldenEye I think also of the video game that my three sons and I played constantly in the late 90s. Brosnan took over the role for me as the best Bond ever in the first scene. I loved him bungee jumping. I loved the fight on the satellite dish in Cuba. I loved the romance, it was like The Living Daylights, OHMSS and From Russia With Love in that way.
- DirectorRoger SpottiswoodeStarsPierce BrosnanJonathan PryceMichelle YeohJames Bond sets out to stop a media mogul's plan to induce war between China and the UK in order to obtain exclusive global media coverage. What can I say? The whole idea of a media mogul being a villain was so RIGHT ON. Terri Hatcher was great. But the scene that stayed with me was the car chase with Bond using the remote control. How cool was that? Oh yeah, k.d. lang sang a great closing song! It made me melt.
- DirectorMichael AptedStarsPierce BrosnanSophie MarceauRobert CarlyleJames Bond uncovers a nuclear plot while protecting an oil heiress from her former kidnapper, an international terrorist who can't feel pain. This is my favorite Brosnan Bond film. Everything in it is great, from Garbage's music, to the set up with the tainted money, the speedboat chase, the skiing in the Caucuses, the revelation about Electra King being the villain, and Bond's final ruthlessness.
- DirectorLee TamahoriStarsPierce BrosnanHalle BerryRosamund PikeJames Bond is sent to investigate the connection between a North Korean terrorist and a diamond mogul, who is funding the development of an international space weapon.I never thought Brosnan would seem too old and creaky to be Bond, but it happened here. I didn't like Madonna's song or her bit in the film. I found the idea that a Korean would try to turn himself into an Englishman disgusting. But despite that, I liked this film. I thought having Bond imprisoned for months made this a perfect post 9-11 film. I loved the Cuban scenes. I loved how Bond could walk into a hotel in rags and long beard with no money and get it all himself.
- DirectorMartin CampbellStarsDaniel CraigEva GreenJudi DenchAfter earning 00 status and a licence to kill, secret agent James Bond sets out on his first mission as 007. Bond must defeat a private banker funding terrorists in a high-stakes game of poker at Casino Royale, Montenegro.I wasn't ready to let go of Brosnan and Craig was not my first choice to replace him. But I loved this film! It was a great reboot and nonstop action and yet it was realistic and had the romance earlier films did. In the end I felt that Craig had become a Connery type of Bond. The opening credit sequence with no girl silhouettes but Bond's silhouette and a male singing after so many years of females singing set a new direction that this film was about the man.
- DirectorMarc ForsterStarsDaniel CraigOlga KurylenkoMathieu AmalricJames Bond descends into mystery as he tries to stop a mysterious organisation from eliminating a country's most valuable resource. And of course the sequel was a let down. I felt it was a mistake to do a sequel instead of another chapter. It made the film seem disjointed. The whole Bolivian thing simply didn't work. Plus by it being a sequel there was no room for a real romance.
- DirectorSam MendesStarsDaniel CraigJavier BardemNaomie HarrisJames Bond's loyalty to M is tested when her past comes back to haunt her. When MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.Let's hope this is good. It can be if they let it have it's own story.
