1. Supernatural (2005– )
TV-14 | 44 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror
Two brothers follow their father's footsteps as "hunters", fighting evil supernatural beings of many kinds, including monsters, demons, and gods that roam the earth.
One word: FLAWLESS. In it's 5th season, it is still unfortunately the most underrated show on television. However, it recently won Fan's Pick for the TV Guide cover, so hopefully it will gain even more momentum. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki amaze you every week with their stunning performances. Of course they are beautiful men to boot. The brothers' relationship is by far the most touching and compelling on all of television. I really wish more people watched this show. Mischa Collins is brilliant as Castiel, the angel who has extraordinary powers but knows squat when it comes to human nature (for example, the hilarious moment when he watches porn and experiences what happens when men are....aroused). HAHA! Bobby continues to be the awesome father figure the boys need. And then, Sam goes and loses his soul, and of course Dean will do ANYTHING to get it back, even take on the job of a reaper. I have to say, this was the perfect opportunity for Jared Padalecki to show off his flexibility when it comes to acting, because no-soul Sam provided plenty of cold laughs. I love both of those boys, but Jensen Ackles always steals the scenes. He practically tears my heart out. He desperately wants to have a normal life with Lisa and Ben, but he knows hunting is him, and of course he needs to get Sam, his brother, his everything back. Please, tell everyone you know to watch this show!
2. The Vampire Diaries (2009–2017)
TV-14 | 43 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror
A young teen struggles to make a decision between two vampire brothers and their supernatural lives. Soon after she discovers the truth her whole world turns upside down.
Oh, Vampire Diaries. You leave me begging for more every week. If you can look past annoying Elena, who I adore as doppelganger Katherine, just not herself, the show is a prize. Smoking hot men everywhere, with good acting skills to boot. Ian Somerholder is by far the shining star of this show. Not only is he gorgeous, but he is hysterically funny. Then next thing you know he can put on a heart-wrenching performance. Caroline annoyed me at first, but now that she's a vampire she kind of amuses me, so I wouldn't mind them keeping her around. They leave us begging for more as I have said, so get back from break already so I can know why they need Elena for this curse!
3. Minute to Win It (2010– )
TV-PG | 60 min | Game-Show, Reality-TV
Contestants can win $1 million by completing ten tasks involving common household objects, with a one-minute time limit for each task.
Yes I know. "What is a game show doing on here?" Well, have you ever watched this show? Absolutely BRILLIANT. Tasks requiring only household items need to be completed to earn money. Sounds like easy money right? Wrong. But you still go online, look up the games and try to complete the task as you're watching it. It's addicting, and provides hours of endless entertainment. My only peeve for this show is the Million Dollar Challenge. Bounce a quarter into a 2 inch hole in a water jug from 10 feet away? It's impossible! I mean I know shows don't have 1 million dollars to give away every week, but they need to make it somewhat possible! Either way, this show is golden. It provides laughs when contestants have to do awkward challenges like skootching their butt around a course on a carpet, or when 2 random strangers playing together get so excited they hug and grab each others asses as their spouses look on from the crowd. And then it even adds in emotion, by phoning in estranged relatives or talking about dead relatives. It has it all!
4. Smallville (2001–2011)
TV-PG | 60 min | Adventure, Drama, Romance
A young Clark Kent struggles to find his place in the world as he learns to harness his alien powers for good and deals with the typical troubles of teenage life in Smallville, Kansas.
In its last season, Smallville is shining. I have invested a full 10 years of my life in this show (more than half of my life), and the last season does not disappoint. It's one of those shows that people forgot about because its on the CW, it moved to Fridays and its been on for so long, and that's a shame. Lois and Clark are in full swing and it is delightful. Clark is finally starting to stop whining and actually take the steps towards his destiny. Justin Hartley as Oliver Queen never disappoints, with his smoking body or wit. And I'll say it one more time for emphasis, Lois and Clark!
5. Gossip Girl (2007–2012)
TV-14 | 42 min | Drama, Romance
Privileged teens living on the Upper East Side of New York can hide no secret from the ruthless blogger who is always watching.
Gossip Girl, another favorite disappointing me. Serena is becoming flat out annoying. Pick. A. Guy. And how many problems can one little rich girl have? I watch this show for one reason: CHAIR/BLUCK, whatever you want to call it, Blair + Chuck = Love. They are the perfect duo, either together in love or apart butting heads. They have perfect chemistry, and I just NEED them together! Also, I found it fascinating how Dan went from being an unknown boy from Brooklyn to a Baby Daddy (or not) within 3 years. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP BRINGING BACK JENNY HUMPHREY. Most annoying, whiny, bratty character ever, and her real life persona seems to be taking on the same form!
6. True Blood (2008–2014)
TV-MA | 55 min | Drama, Fantasy, Mystery
Telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse encounters a strange new supernatural world when she meets the mysterious Bill, a southern Louisiana gentleman and vampire.
Ahh, True Blood. You have introduced me this year to a droolworthy werewolf. Thank heavens, because I was so sick of hearing about the little boy werewolf over in the Twilight realm. I can stare at this MAN all day. This season Eric continued to be as awesome as ever, while we grew in hatred for Bill Compton. Sookie has always been annoying to me, and now she's a fairy... I don't know, all I know is put more Eric and Alceid on screen more and more and True Blood will always have my attention
7. Private Practice (2007–2013)
60 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance
A spin-off of the medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" centering on the life of neonatal surgeon Addison Montgomery.
This show makes the list instead of Grey's Anatomy because unlike Grey's (with the exception of the shooting thriller), there are good stories in this show. Yes, sometimes Kate Walsh can get annoying. That's why you need to focus on Charlotte! She has undoubtedly the best lines in this show all the time with her biting sarcasm, and then BAM! she gets all serious and touching. The whole storyline of her being raped kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, especially now watching her, the usual "tough girl." trying to move on from it.
8. Lost (2004–2010)
TV-14 | 44 min | Adventure, Drama, Fantasy
The survivors of a plane crash are forced to work together in order to survive on a seemingly deserted tropical island.
Ok, so I invested 6 years into this enigmatic show, and it ends the same way it started. IN CONFUSION! The series finale provided no answers whatsoever... it actually produced more questions. The way they resolved all the characters was well done, but if only they could have done that for the storylines.
9. Jersey Shore (2009–2018)
TV-14 | 40 min | Comedy, Drama, Reality-TV
A reality-based look at the vapid lives of several New Jersey 20-somethings and their respective friends and/or hook-ups.
Usually this would be higher on my list, as it is my favorite guilty pleasure, but Sammi and Ronnie singlehandedly ruined this season for me. Yes, it was entertaining to see "Single Ronnie" for one episode, but one episode would have sufficied. And Sammi's blindness and turning against my two girls JWoww and Snooki for absolutely no reason just annoyed me to no end. However, this still deserves to be on the list because of Snooki's entertaining moments and Pauly and Vinny's charm :)
10. Entourage (2004–2011)
TV-MA | 28 min | Comedy, Drama
Film star Vince Chase navigates the vapid terrain of Los Angeles with a close circle of friends and his trusty agent.
I have always loved Entourage, so it's on the list, but this season frankly drove me crazy and made me cringe on more than one occasion. Vince, the drug addict? Really? Come on there was no other storyline they could have thought of? On the other hand, Drama is as funny as ever, and now that he's going to be playing a cartoon monkey, I'm sure more laughs will be in store. Although Ari takes pride in being a dick, I really did feel bad for him with this whole scandal thing. But anyway, next season better come back with a bang and they better abandon the druggie storyline quickly.
