10 of the Best Actors/Actresses Who've Yet to Receive An Oscar Nominationby jgiles20 | created - 25 Dec 2010 | updated - 25 Dec 2010 | Public
This is a list of actors and actresses that I love, who have given memorable performances over the years in a variety of films, but have never been nominated for Oscars.
1. Kathy Baker
Actress | Picket Fences
For someone who has made an award-winning impact in all three mediums (stage, film and TV), actress Kathy Baker has been strangely denied all-out stardom, yet continues to demonstrate her versatility in whatever material comes her way.
The comely blonde was born Katherine Whitton Baker in Midland, ...
Loved her in The Cider House Rules, Edward Scissorhands, The Jane Austen Book Club, Cold Mountain, among others-great performances one and all. Also, see TV's Picket Fences. Outstanding.
Actress | Pulp Fiction
The daughter of Canadian actor Christopher Plummer and American actress Tammy Grimes, Amanda Plummer was born in New York City on March 23, 1957. Her breakthrough role came when she starred opposite Robin Williams in The Fisher King (1991). However, Plummer may be best remembered for her work in the...
Always quirky and memorable in big movies and indie films. I love to watch her in anything, but especially when she's playing crazy people. Give her a nomination for something. Give her a really juicy role.
3. Oliver Platt
Actor | 2012
Oliver Platt was born in Windsor, Ontario, to American parents, Sheila Maynard, a social worker, and Nicholas Platt, a career diplomat. His parents were both from upper-class families, and his maternal great-grandmother, Cynthia Roche, was the sister of Princess Diana's maternal grandfather, ...
I have seen him in good movies (Bulworth) and bad movies (Bicentennial Man). He needs as good a movie role as I know he gets on TV, so he can get a nomination for something.
Actor | The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
The towering presence of Canadian actor Donald Sutherland is often noticed, as are his legendary contributions to cinema. He has appeared in almost 200 different shows and films. He is also the father of renowned actor Kiefer Sutherland, among others.
Donald McNichol Sutherland was born in Saint ...
He's a legend and though I haven't seen as many of his classic films as I would have liked (such as Ordinary People and M*A*S*H), I have always enjoyed him everything I've seen him in. Never a bad performance, only the occasional bad movie.
5. J.T. Walsh
Actor | Sling Blade
J.T. Walsh was born on September 28, 1943 in San Francisco, California, USA as James Thomas Patrick Walsh. He was an actor, known for Sling Blade (1996), Breakdown (1997) and A Few Good Men (1992). He was married to Susan West. He died on February 27, 1998 in La Mesa, California.
I always enjoyed this late, great actor in anything I saw him. He was especially memorable in Sling Blade, Needful Things, Breakdown and Pleasantville, among others. So why no Oscar nomination? For anything?
Actress | The Help
Allison Janney is an award-winning actress who has earned a solid reputation in stage productions and in many supporting roles on screen, and who more recently has become prominent by portraying one of the major characters in the popular TV series The West Wing (1999).
Entertainment Weekly magazine ...
Great at drama (American Beauty) and comedy (Juno), I love this woman. I'm sure she'll get a nomination someday and it may be for a comedy. She does a lot of them, but she does them well and it would be a shame not to recognize her for one of them.
7. John Heard
Actor | Home Alone
John Heard was a very talented actor who established himself as a respected thespian in the late 1970s and early '80s, though he is perhaps better known for his turns as Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin')s father in the Home Alone (1990) movies.
John was born in Washington, D.C., to Helen (...
I know a lot of his best roles are behind him and some of them may not seem Oscar-worthy. His biggest roles now may be mainly on TV, but it would still be nice if he could get a supporting actor nom for something.
Quirky, inventive and handsome American actor Michael Keaton first achieved major fame with his door-busting performance as fast-talking ideas man Bill Blazejowski, alongside a nerdish morgue attendant (Henry Winkler), in Night Shift (1982). He played further comedic roles in Mr. Mom (1983), Johnny...
I still find it a crime that he has not been nominated for anything. He's done so many great movies from drama (Clean and Sober, My Life) to comedy (Mr. Mom, Beetlejuice) to action films (Batman, Batman Returns) to complete crap (Herbie: Fully Loaded, Jack Frost, Multiplicity) and has always been great to watch. Why he was never nominated at any point, I'll never know.
Actress | True Lies
Jamie Lee Curtis was born on November 22, 1958 in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of legendary actors Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis. She got her big break at acting in 1978 when she won the role of Laurie Strode in Halloween (1978). After that, she became famous for roles in movies like Trading...
Love Jamie Lee in so many movies; True Lies, Halloween, Trading Places, My Girl 1 & 2. She may not have had the right movie to get a nomination, but she still deserves to get the recognition. She is a Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee. Why no Oscar recognition?
10. Mary Kay Place
Actress | Being John Malkovich
Another great indie actress in movies like Manny and Lo, The Safety of Objects, My First Mister and Nine Lives. She should get recognized soon if a bigger role comes her way. Manny and Lo was a good role for her.
