Mind Bending / Intellectual Movies

by usernamekiran • Created 12 years ago • Modified 9 years ago
I always craved for complications in movies. Not weirdness, but complication. Like, after watching a movie, when you say to yourself: "what on earth was that? let me see that movie again!"
So, I created this list which contains confusing/intellectual movies, yet have a logical base , which can be explained. Not some some idiotic stupid movie like Mulholland Dr.
I don't care what critics or somebody else say, I don't care if a movie has high budget CGI, the only thing I care about is logical explanation.

I am talking about the movies, which confuses the viewer, I am not talking about confused director. :-D
The movies listed here, have some kind of "basis"; at least, it has been explained logically within the movie.

There is no particular "order", I just update this list as the movies come to my mind.
Suggestions are always welcome. :-)

Here are the movies from this list, which are "flawed", or can't be explained logically:
Fight Club
Black Swan
Mulholland Dr.
Lost Highway
Chasing Sleep
Source Code

The movie eXistenZ can be explained as long as it goes, but it ends kind of unexpectedly. So the user (viewer) doesn't get the complete "input" to make a conclusion at the end.

    6.7 (118K)
Four friends/fledgling entrepreneurs, knowing that there's something bigger and more innovative than the different error-checking devices they've built, wrestle over their new invention.
    DirectorShane CarruthStarsShane CarruthDavid SullivanCasey Gooden
Two engineers out of four realise that they have accidentally created a machine which actually is a time machine. But unlike other machines from fictions this machine has a very different method for "travelling" in time.

The movie has fantastic elements of science fiction, and philosophy but Carruth portrayed scientific discovery and whole movie in a down-to-earth, and realistic manner.

This movie won tons of awards.
Shane Carruth is the director, producer, one of the two protagonist, music composer, and the editor of the movie.
Carruth, is a former software engineer with an undergraduate degree in mathematics.

Hats off to the novels, but movie couldn't capture the novel. Furthermore there is a lot difference in the novels and the movie.

The movie begins with demolition of earth by a race "vogans" the galactic government's bureaucrats. Later the protagonist learns lots of facts/hidden truths about the universe.

The new Total Recall (2012) (Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale) contains a spoiler, and the story or the grasp is nothing at all compared with this one. It has advantages of better special effects, CGI, and sound effects though. But I would recommend to to watch Arnold's first, and then the new one.
