Gaming Systems
What is it? The PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 are designed for games with high-def graphics and surround sound. However, the PS3 also functions as a high-def player equipped to watch Blu-ray discs.
Why do I need it? If you're planning to invest in a game system in the near future, purchasing a PS3 console that supports Blu-ray is probably the most cost-effective way to bring a high-def movie player into your home.
PlayStation 3
The PlayStation 3 offers consumers a state-of-the-art gaming experience and serves as a high-definition movie player as well. With its built-in Blu-ray disc drive, the PS3 can deliver high-definition gaming, Blu-ray movies, and music.
As of this writing, the PlayStation 3's removable hard disk drive (HDD) is available in more than one size (40 or 80 GB). All consoles include an HDMI and component connectors, which means you can use your console with any high-definition display as well as conventional or standard TVs. (Note that only some HDTVs only support 1080p signals via HDMI cables, but even if yours isn't one of them, you'll still get excellent results when you set your PS3 to output 1080i.)
A note about remotes and the PS3: You will need a Bluetooth remote (such as the Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote), as the PS3 won't work with standard universal remotes.
