Jonah Hex

Trailer #1

Director: Jimmy Hayward

Stars: John Malkovich, Josh Brolin, Megan Fox (more)

Synopsis: In the Wild West, a scarred bounty hunter tracks a voodoo practitioner bent on liberating the South by raising an army of the undead.

Why We're Excited: The comic-reading boys I grew up with cannot believe the Weird Western Tales antihero has his own movie, but 2010 really is the year that Hollywood is testing how many layers deep they can go into comic-books and generate hit movies. We love voodoo-themed anything, from The Princess and the Frog to Sugar Hill, and Jonah is coming across like a mix of the latter film, Sergio Leone's classic trilogy, and Hellboy.

Why We're Not: Knowing the project required extensive re-shooting gives us pause, even if Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Constantine) mentored director Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who!) through the process. Aside from that, we're not the biggest fans of Neveldine/Taylor, who co-wrote Hex's screenplay. And seeing as how their last three projects have fared -- Gamer, Crank: High Voltage, and Pathology (which they wrote and produced) -- it seems as though Hollywood loves them, but fans and critics don't.

Trivia: Matthew McConaughey was considered for the title role. Thomas Jane's passion for the part went further; he had himself photographed in the Jonah Hex costume, complete with facial scarring.
