Director: Nancy Meyers
Stars: Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin (more)
Synopsis: A romantic comedy in which two men (Baldwin and Martin) vie for the affection of the same woman (Streep).
Why We're Excited: There's absolutely no denying that Streep is on a roll, and a comedic gold streak at that -- and, we wish we could have Baldwin and Martin fighting over us too. This could be a big coup (and another Oscar nom) for La Streep just like Diane Keaton in Something's Gotta Give, also written and directed by Meyers. The holiday comedy hit of the season with adults? We wouldn't be surprised.
Why We're Not: You can count on three things with a Meyers film: 1) It will be art-directed within an inch of its life to reflect the stars' Pottery Barn/Williams-Sonoma lifestyle; 2) It will be at least 20 minutes too long, and you will feel every one of those superfluous minutes; and 3) The heroine will have to cry at some point. We might be able to overlook 1 and 2, but don't make Meryl Streep cry for no good reason!
Trivia: Just as we were writing this, the news came out that Martin and Baldwin are hosting this year's Oscars. Really!
