  • The ABFF is an internationally recognized showcase for independent Black cinema. The annual event is designed to heighten interest in and exposure to Black films, and to salute the cinematic work of Black filmmakers, actors and actresses. The festival showcases a selection of feature-length films, documentaries, and film shorts that recognize the best of independent, international and classic Black cinema.   • The festival took place from 1997 to 2000 and was the predecessor to the American Black Film Festival.
