- There is trouble on the Bar D ranch as cowhand Mile Ahead plans to rustle the herd. He starts a fire on the opposite side of the ranch to keep the hands busy and also kidnaps the new school teacher. Fighting the fire, Foreman Denver leans the cattle are gone and going after Mile Ahead, learns the teacher is a prisoner in the school and the fire that is now out of control is heading her way.
- Cardsharp Jack Cardigan decides to go straight when he meets Doris Bradfield, but is forced to use his talents on behalf of her dad, whose land-grant title has fallen into the hands of Jed Harden through the gambling weakness of Bradfield's son Tom.
- Three cowboys try to stop a crook from defrauding an orphan girl out of her money.
- An undercover marshal battles a power-mad cattle baron.
- Rancher Jack Gardner is ambushed and awakens in a hospital and finds that his ranch has been illegally sold out from under him to an old lady and her niece Peggy. Believing the new owner to be a man, because she is named Pat, Jack threatens many things, but when he meets "the nice old lady" and realizes she too is a victim, he takes another path to right both wrongs. Meanwhile, the swindler has snooped around and discovered ore on the Gardner ranch, and is now trying to buy back what wasn't his to begin with.
- Mysterious bandit has been holding up express shipments from the ranches. The girl's father has a partner who is really the villain, saving the hero who of course is suspected of being the bandit.
- Tod Walker takes Rex Carson's map to a gold mine and leaves him in the desert. Carson recuperates at Jean Walker's ranch and she takes a liking to him. But when her uncle Tod arrives, he claims Carson tried to jump his claim. She sides with her uncle and Carson, banished from the Walker ranch, sets out to get his claim back.
- Dave Brandon (Tom Tyler) tries to break away from his life of crime, but his old gang won't let him.
- Leary is using the Express Agent's liking for alcohol to enable his men to steal insured packages. Then he claims the insurance. Railroad Agent Hartley is sent to investigate and suspecting Leary, he and the Sheriff plan to trap them the next time they try their scheme.
- In a trapper's cabin, Sergeant Stone finds a fellow Mountie murdered and is given the assignment of locating the killer. He finds Tom who was at the cabin and his fingerprints match those on the gun. But Stone thinks Tom was framed and one of the two other men present is guilty. So he gets the Inspector to employ an old trick he thinks will get a confession from them.
