- Using the latest digital technology, the era between the dinosaurs and man is superbly recreated by the BBC and Discovery Channel in another winning production from the coalition.
- John Strange is an ex-priest who had dedicated his life to hunting down demons and the darker side of the church, a task which some of his former bosses stand in the way of.
- Bruce Dunbar, the head of a shifty legal firm dealing in criminal law, tries to train new employee Theodore Gulliver in his fairly underhand methods. While Gulliver, fighting Dunbar's influence, tries to do his job as best he can, Dunbar has his own problems, from clients who ransack his offices, to dealing with his self-abusive teenage daughter.

Various pointers suggest that this marks the resurgence of Asmoth, the demon who marked Strange and killed his girl-friend Helen as well as blinding Strange's mentor Father Bernard, whom he calls in in his efforts to destroy the demon. However complications are provided by the 'return' of Jude's ex-boyfriend out for retribution on Strange. And, inevitably, Canon Black is holding back more information than he knows regarding Asmoth.
- When Jude goes to the cathedral archive she witnesses Canon Black refuse researcher Raymond Mason's request to access the tomb of Bishop Otterman who died almost a hundred years earlier of the now extinct Bone's Disease, his excuse being that opening the tomb will revive the disease. Strange discovers that the bishop's daughter is still alive and she tells him that the tomb is empty as her father disappeared and the illness was a story put about by the then dean but the dean's great-grandson Liam, a young cabbie, has a more sinister tale to tell, which follows the death of Mason, who broke into the tomb. According to Liam the dean believed that Otterman's other daughter was a banshee and he disposed of her accordingly. But did he get the right daughter?
- In a church in rural Herzegovina a coffin lies in state, surrounded by candles and church cleaner Mina hears an old lady declare that something must not be allowed to leave. Over in England Mina gets work as a cleaner and birthday boy Kevin gets a nasty surprise. Canon Black's elderly sister is also one of several victims of an apparent vampire and the Canon has to admit that he has indeed known about the existence of demons as he asks for John Strange's help in destroying the vampire - or dubik. This is a demon which can cleverly play mind games with its victims, here pretending to be Strange's deceased girlfriend as Strange has to battle with the illusion.
- The headless body of Ron is found in his tattoo parlour and Kevin is initially suspect, given that he uses a chain-saw in his work. However severance was with a blade and then two further bodies are found - one eyeless and the other minus his legs, both choir boys who had gone to Ron for tattoos. Another boy, Billy, is missing and Jude eventually finds him in the tattoo parlour alive. She is then confronted by a worshipper of the Japanese demon, Kaa-Jinn, who has been dismembering victims in order to recreate his demonic master from their body parts.
- A verger, the victim of a hit and run accident, is discovered dead and Jude's young son is near the body. Fearing that he may have inherited his father's devilish traits, she takes him to see Dr. Sita, who claims all is well with the child but the doctor is later found dead, and prematurely aged in a matter of minutes. Volunteer hospital visitor Emily Hawthorne, believed to be a witch but actually a psychic, is murdered in the same way and aged by twenty years. John Strange and Jude come to the conclusion that this is the work of the demon Wizox and struggle to literally get him out of the driving seat.
- After the police cannot get a conviction, the cold case team takes on the murder of a feminist who worked for the Home Office.
- When the POWs learn from their radio that there is to be a massive air raid in their area, they decide that it would be the perfect time to use their tunnel for the mass escape. They push to finish the last few yards into the woods but a cave-in seemingly ends their hopes of escape. Until, that is, Drew Pritchard comes up with a brilliant idea. It's also left to Pritchard to steal a travel pass from the Kommandant's office. When he is caught, Commandant Dreiber is prepared to use whatever means necessary to find out what is going on.
- Harry investigates a case of hit and run where the victim was a 16 year old boy from the nearby housing estate. Working with Sgt. Susan Fenn, they attempt learn if this was an accident or intentional. Harry takes quite a liking to Susan and is shocked by a sudden turn of event. Leo examines a death resulting from a house fire where the lady of the house died. He is puzzled at why she was unable to leave and the police immediately suspect the husband, who was in a nearby park with the children, of murder. Nikki looks into the case of a young woman who collapses at her hen night. She had recently had minor surgery and was taking pain killers, but there is surprising information to be found about her background.
- Harry is shocked when his former university girlfriend, Penny Harris, is brought in dead. She drove her car into a tree and the police initially suspect suicide but the autopsy reveals that the medication in her system was ground rather than in pill form, so they conclude she was likely murdered. Her husband tells the police that he thought his wife was having an affair and her parents react strangely to the news. Leo assists the police in the death of Jimmy Triangle, a conceptual artist whose latest work dealt with the death of conceptual art - and includes his own body, as he is shot through the head. The question is whether the shot was self-inflicted or not.
- Alison Garland is a 14 year old schoolgirl found dead on the school grounds just after lunch. She appears to have slit her wrists and committed suicide, but there is also evidence that she had sexual relations just earlier that day. As Leo Dalton looks into the case he learns that Alison was also a school bully and was a very unhappy young woman. Harry assists the police in the stabbing death of a car dealer. The evidence suggests that he was stabbed in his garage and his body then dumped. The case takes a radical twist when they find that the knife found by Alison's body was also used to kill the car dealer. Nikki assists the police in the death of an elderly woman who appears to have been maltreated.
- A third murder is discovered on school grounds and Leo realises the killings are connected to a sinister teenage pact. Meanwhile, Nikki proves her elderly victim died of hypothermia - but there is still a guilty party to be caught.
- Harry and Nikki deal with the case of a young woman who is found dead in an animal shelter. Her dead body has obviously been posed and the autopsy reveals she may have been tortured before death. Information from police intelligence suggests that they may be dealing with a group of radical animal rights activists. It all becomes quite personal for Harry when Nikki is taken prisoner. It's also a difficult time for Leo who has been asked to appear before a medical council hearing and testify on the propriety of a close friend's medical research. Harry has been offered a prestigious chair at an American university, but has had difficulty discussing the issue with his colleagues, especially Nikki.
- Harry and the police desperately search for Nikki as they continue to find more bodies. The animal rights activists' target is a well known pharmaceutical firm that is undertaking research on behalf of the government. Leo finally decides on a course of action in testifying at the medical council hearing.
