Thief Tony Pantelli befriends her in the tenement where she finds a room, tries to obtain money for her care from Ashe, and, failing, steals a goblet that Ashe has brought home from England, thinking it may be the Holy Grail. The goblet, which gives off a glow and is reputed to have healing powers, is recovered, stolen again, again recovered and stolen, and finally lost in a river. Meanwhile, Ashe exonerates Tony in night court, realizes he really loves Bessie, now cured, and is reunited with her.
- Ann Hunniwell, innocently accompanying Frank Devereaux, her employer's son, to a questionable New York cafe, is arrested in a raid and is photographed by a newspaperman, although Devereaux manages to obtain the negative. Five years later she is the wife of "Lafe" Regan, a man of high character and social standing. Her stepdaughter, Helen, becomes involved with Devereaux, who has also had an affair with the wife of Colonel Gaunt. When the colonel threatens to shoot Devereaux, Regan stalls him, while Ann follows Helen to Frank's apartment; after an oral conflict, Regan shoots Devereaux and leaves a "Not To Be Disturbed" sign on the door. Ann tries to take the blame and shield her family, but the district attorney, having posed as the photographer years before, believes Ann is equally guiltless now and frees her and her husband, stating that no jury would convict Regan on his plea of "Self-Defense."
- David Rossi is an orphan in Rome, and is taken care of by a homeless man, Bruno. The wealthy Dr. Roselli adopts David and raises him with his daughter, Roma. When they grow up David and Roma become engaged. Dr. Roselli dies, and David and Bruno join the army when war erupts. Roma becomes a well-known sculptor, backed by Baron Bonelli, who is secretly the head of the Rome branch of the Communist party. Returning from the war, David becomes a follower of Benito Mussolini. Complications ensue when David finds out that Roma is backed by Baron Bonelli, his arch-enemy.
- Young rapscallion Penrod Schofield causes a good deal of trouble in his community, all in the name of protecting kids from too-strict parents and nasty neighbors. He heads the ABPA (American Boys' Protective Association) and through it disrupts a number of local social events. The townspeople are pretty fed up with Penrod and his gang, but when a couple of outlaws come to town, Penrod shows his mettle.
- Wealthy Bruce MacAllister is goaded by his fiancée, Helen Sumner, into proving that he is a man of action rather than a pampered youth. After telling his estate administrator, Eugene Preston, that he is going east for a meeting, Bruce dons a disguise and infiltrates the San Francisco, CA, underworld. Bruce is mistaken for master criminal "The Chicago Kid" and finds himself leading the gang in a robbery of his own fortune in diamonds. When he discovers Eugene's intention to steal the jewels for himself, the loot changes hands many times. Helen summons the police, the criminals are arrested, and Bruce wins her respect.
- Owing to her father's irresponsible self-indulgence with other women, Letitia Tevis has to support her parents, and she works with Emmet Carr, who is in love with her. When her father is victimized by manicurist Nettie Dark, Letitia demands a return of his money. She is disillusioned by Emmet's presence in the girl's apartment, but eventually she realizes his innocence and finds happiness with him.
- Infamous Mexican bandit Pancho López recognizes Gilbert Jones as the man who once saved his life; therefore, when Jones is in danger of losing his ranch for default of mortgage payment, López determines to help him. At the same time, Morgan Pell, intending to cheat Jones out of his potentially oil-rich property, offers him a sum of money, which Jones conditionally accepts. When López discovers that Jones and Mrs. Pell are in love he has Pell shot, then robs a local bank, pays the mortgage, and returns the cattle he has stolen. With Mr. Pell out of the way and the ranch secure, Jones and Mrs. Pell are free to marry.
- Abe Potash and Morris Perlmutter, partners in a garment company, hire Boris Andrieff, a poor Russian violinist, as a fitter. Boris falls in love with Irma Potash to the disappointment of Abe, who had hoped for his daughter to marry Feldman, a wealthy lawyer. The violinist is arrested after a labor agitator is shot on the company premises, and the scandal threatens to ruin Potash and Perlmutter. However, the man recovers, and Boris marries Irma with her father's blessing.
