Flint, who is attracted to the girl, warns her against taking passage on a trading vessel in port captained by "Bully" Haynes; Lola, who has been persuaded by Haynes to trick Flint into leaving the island, later realizes that she cannot carry out the scheme and warns Flint of his danger. Scornfully, Flint decides to sell out and go to Australia, leaving the Christians at the mercy of the nabob. When the village is set afire, Lola implores Flint to call for aid; he fights the ship's crew; Haynes is mortally wounded; Lola, in desperation, prays for guidance; and Flint succeeds in communicating with marines, who quell the uprising.

Coming into possession of an instrument that restores his hearing, he learns that the persons he has idolized are not to be trusted and that his wife is unfaithful; in despair, he destroys the instrument. Episode 3: Hop. As a boy in China, Chin Gow learns that girl infants are undesirable. When a man, he becomes proprietor of several San Francisco opium dens and weds Toy Sing, who bears him a baby girl. Chin Gow beats his wife and vows to slay the child. His wife's friend brings in a crucifix sent by the priest, and as he nails it to the wall, the spike penetrates the skull of Chin Gow lying in a bunk on the other side of the wall and kills him. Episode 4: The Intrigue. On a yachting tour of the world, Reginald Vandebrook, reaching a foreign country, falls in love with a girl he has never seen before; he hears her called Princess and follows her into a building. There he is surrounded by East Indians who are about to murder him. He awakens to find himself in a dentist's chair having a tooth extracted.

- Inspired by a statue of the infant Christ in the hands of the Madonna, Bernice who lives in a convent in Naples, Italy conceives of a deep passion for babies. Learning that there are infants dying of hunger and neglect in America, Bernice determines to come to their aid. Dressed as a boy, she arrives in New York where destitute, Bernice meets artist Robert Bruce who hires her to pose for a painting of the Madonna. The two fall in love until one day, during Robert's absence, his wife appears and drives Bernice into the streets. Bernice's trials finally end when Mrs. Bruce dies in an automobile accident, freeing Robert to marry his model.

Complications ensue when David finds out that Roma is backed by Baron Bonelli, his arch-enemy.

A picture of Jackie's mother brings out the fact that Jackie is Savelli's son, and all ends happily with Jackie and his father buying back the old farm for the Holdens.

Grandma Sutton cleverly maneuvers John and Irene into her house and has it quarantined. They realize they love each other; John divorces Jean, remarries Irene, and takes her on a second honeymoon.
