: You thought there was a cure. You can't blame yourself for holding out for hope. Hershel Greene
: Hope? When I first saw you running across my field with your boy in your arms, I had a little hope he would survive. Rick Grimes
: But he did. Hershel Greene
: He did. Even though we lost Otis. Your man Shane made it back and we saved your boy. That was the miracle that proved to me miracles do exist. Only it was a sham, a bait and switch. I was a fool, Rick, and you people saw that. My daughters deserve better than that.
: I promised Maggie that I'd bring you home safe. Hershel Greene
: Like you promised that little girl? Rick Grimes
: So what's your plan? Finish that bottle? Drink yourself to death and leave your girls alone? Hershel Greene
: Stop telling me how to care for my family, my farm. You people are like a plague! I do the Christian thing, give you shelter, and you destroyed it all! Rick Grimes
: The world was already in bad shape when we met. Hershel Greene
: And you take responsibility! You're supposed to be their leader! Rick Grimes
: Well, I'm here now, aren't I? Hershel Greene
: Yes. Yes. Yes, you are. Rick Grimes
: Now come on. Your girls need you now, more than ever. Hershel Greene
: I didn't want to believe you. You told me there was no cure, that these people were dead, not sick. I chose not to believe it. But when Shane shot Lou in the chest and she just kept coming, that's when I knew what an ass I've been. That Annette had been dead long ago and I was feeding a rotten corpse! That's when I knew there was no hope. And when that little girl came out of the barn, the look on your face - I knew you knew it too. Right? There is no hope. And you know it, like I do. Don't you? There is no hope for any of us.
: We don't know anything about you. Dave
: No, that's true. You don't know anything about us. You don't what we had to go through out there, the things we've had to do. I bet you've had to do some of those things yourself. Am I right? 'Cause ain't nobody's hands clean in what's left of this world. We're all the same.
: You fellas are a long way from Philadelphia. Dave
: Feels like we're a long way from *anywhere*. Rick Grimes
: Well, what drove you south? Dave
: Well, I can tell you it wasn't the weather: I must have dropped thirty pounds in sweat alone down here. Tony
: I wish. Dave
: No, first it was D.C: I heard there might be some kind of refugee camp, but the roads were so jammed we never even got close. We decided to get off the highways into the sticks, keep hauling ass. Every group we came across had a new rumor about a way out of this thing. Tony
: One guy told us there was a coast guard sending in the gulf, sending ferries to the islands. Dave
: The latest was a rail yard in Montgomery running trains to the middle of the country, Kansas, Nebraska. Glenn
: Nebraska? Tony
: Low population, lots of guns. Glenn
: Kind of makes sense. Dave
: Ever been to Nebraska, kid? A reason they call 'em "flyover states".
: [Rick looks at Dave's gun
] Not bad, huh? I got it off a cop. Rick Grimes
: I'm a cop. Dave
: This one was already dead.
: [in the bar
] How 'bout you, pal? Have one? Hershel Greene
: I just quit. Dave
: Got a unique sense of timing, my friend. Rick Grimes
: His name's Hershel. He lost people today, a lot of them. Dave
: I'm truly sorry to hear that.
: To better days and new friends... and to our dead. May they be in a better place.
: [to Rick, who has denied both men a place in his camp
] You gotta understand, we can't stay out there. You know what it's like. Rick Grimes
: Yeah, I do. But the farm is too crowded as is: I'm sorry. You'll have to keep looking. Dave
: Keep looking? Where do you suggest we do that? Rick Grimes
: I don't know. I hear Nebraska's nice. Dave
: This guy...
[pulls out his gun to shoot Rick; Rick instantly shoots both Dave and Tony dead
: [going through a box filled with dresses
] Your stepmother's things? Maggie Greene
: He was so sure she'd recover, they'd just pick up where they left off. Shane Walsh
: [finds hip flask
] Looks like he found an old friend. Maggie Greene
: That belonged to my grandfather. He gave it to Dad when he died. Rick Grimes
: I didn't take Hershel for a drinker. Maggie Greene
: No, he gave it up on the day I was born. He didn't even allow liquor in the house.
: [they find out about the farm
] Well, hang on a second, this-this farm sounds pretty sweet, don't it sound sweet, Tony? Tony
: Yeah, real sweet. Dave
: Yeah, how about a little Southern hospitality? We got some buddies back at camp, been having a real hard time. I don't see why you can't make room for a few more, we could pool our resources, our manpower. Rick Grimes
: Look, I'm sorry, that's not an option. Dave
: Doesn't sound like it'd be a problem.
: Maggie said she loves me.
: She doesn't mean it. I mean, she can't, I mean why, she-she's upset or confused, or she's probably feeling... Rick Grimes
: I think she's smart enough to know what she's feeling. Glenn
: No. No. No, I... you know, she-she wants to be in love, so she-she needs something to-to like, hold onto... Rick Grimes
: Glenn, it's pretty obvious to everyone: Maggie loves you and not just because you're one of the last men standing, so what's the problem? Glenn
: I didn't say it back. Rick Grimes
: Huh? Glenn
: I've never had a woman say that to me before, you know, except my mom, of course, and-and my sisters. But with Maggie it's different, I mean, what, we barely know each other, wh-wh-what does she really know about me? Nothing. We're practically strangers. I-I didn't know what to do with it, I just stood there like a jerk. Rick Grimes
: Hey, hey, this is a good thing: something we don't get enough of these days, enjoy it. And when we get back, return the favor, it's-it's not like she's going anywhere.
: [to Shane
] That vase - that's something special. 'Fess up. You steal that from your Grandma Jean's house? I hope you left her that spoon collection.
: [in the squad car over lunch
] What's the difference between men and women? Shane Walsh
: This a joke? Rick Grimes
: No, serious. Shane Walsh
: Never met a woman who knew how to turn off a light. They're born thinkin' the switch only goes one way: on. I mean, they're, they're struck blind the second they leave a room. I mean every woman, I ever let have a key, I swear to God. It's like, come home, house all lit up, and my job, you see, apparently, because, because my chromosomes happen to be different is that I gotta walk through that house and turn off every single light this chick left on. Rick Grimes
: Is that right? Shane Walsh
: Yeah, baby. Oh Reverend Shane is preachin' to ya now, boy. Then this same chick, mind ya, she'll bitch about, uh, global warming. You see, this is, this is where Reverend Shane wants to quote from the Guy Gospel and say, "Um, darlin', maybe if you and every other pair of boobs on this planet could just figure out that the light switch, see, goes both ways, maybe we wouldn't have so much global warming?" Rick Grimes
: You say that? Shane Walsh
: Well, the uh, polite version. Still, man, that-that earns me this look of loathing you would not believe and that's when the "Exorcist" voice pops out:
] Shane Walsh
: "You sound just like my damn father! Always, always yellin' about the power bill and tellin' me to turn off the damn lights!" Rick Grimes
: And what do you say to that? Shane Walsh
: I know what I want to say. I want to say "Bitch, you mean to tell me you've been hearing this your entire life and you are still too damn stupid to learn how to turn off a switch?"
] Shane Walsh
: You know, I don't actually say that, though. Rick Grimes
] That would be bad. Shane Walsh
: Yeah, I go with the uh, go with the polite version there too, so... Rick Grimes
: Very wise. Shane Walsh
: Yes sir. So how's it with Lori, man? Rick Grimes
: She's good. She's good at turning off lights. Really good. I'm the one who sometimes forgets. Shane Walsh
: Not what I meant. Rick Grimes
] We didn't have a great night. Shane Walsh
: Hey look, man, I may have, uh, failed to amuse with my sermon, but I did try. The least you could do is, is speak. Rick Grimes
: That-that's what she always says: "Speak". "Speak". You'd think I was the most closed mouth son of a bitch you'd ever hear her telling. Shane Walsh
: Do you express your thoughts? Do you share your feelings and that kind of stuff? Rick Grimes
: The thing is, lately, whenever I try, everything I say makes her impatient like she didn't want to hear it after all. It's like she's pissed at me all the time, and I don't know why. Shane Walsh
: Look man, that's just shit couples go through. You know, it's, it's a phase. Rick Grimes
: Last thing she said this morning? "Sometimes I wonder if you even care about us at all." She said that in front of our kid; imagine going to school with that in your head. Difference between men and women? I would never say something that cruel to her, and certainly not in front of Carl.
: You shot that man today. Morgan Jones
: Man? Duane Jones
: It weren't no man. Morgan Jones
: What the hell was that out your mouth just now? Duane Jones
: It wasn't a man. Rick Grimes
: You shot him in the street out front, a man. Morgan Jones
: Friend, you need glasses. It was a walker. Come on, sit down... before you fall down.
: Hey mister, you even know what's going on? Rick Grimes
: I woke up today... in the hospital, came home and that's all I know. Morgan Jones
: But you know about the dead people, right? Rick Grimes
: Yeah, I saw a lot of that - out on the loading dock, piled in trucks. Morgan Jones
: No, not the ones they put down. The ones they didn't - the walkers, like the one I shot today. C'ause he'd have ripped into you, tried to eat you, taken some flesh at least. Well, I guess if this is the first you're hearing it, I know how it must sound... But listen, one thing I do know - don't you get bit. I saw your bandage and that's what we were afraid of. Bites kill you. The fever burns you out. But then after a while... you come back. Duane Jones
: Seen it happen.
: Daddy, can I learn to shoot? I'm old enough. Morgan Jones
: Hell yes, you're gonna learn. But we gotta do it carefully, teach you to respect the weapon. Rick Grimes
: That's right. It's not a toy. You pull the trigger, you have to mean it. Always remember that, Duane. Duane Jones
: Yes, sir.
: [in the middle of a police chase
] Sounds like they're chasing those idiots up and down every back road we got. Leon Basset
: Maybe we'll get them on one of those video shows, you know, like "World's Craziest Police Chases", what do you think? Rick Grimes
: What I think, Leon, is that you need to stay focused. Make sure you got a round in the chamber and your safety off. Shane Walsh
: [Leon realizes he didn't do that and corrects his mistake
] Would be kind of cool to get on one of them shows.
] Rick Grimes
: [to a walker girl, thinking she is alive
] Little girl? I'm a policeman. Little girl. Don't be afraid. Okay? Little girl?
: [back in his house
] They're alive: my wife and son. At least they were when they left. Morgan Jones
: How can you know? By the look of this place, they... Rick Grimes
: I found empty drawers in the bedroom. They packed some clothes. Not a lot. But enough to travel. Morgan Jones
: You know anybody could've broken in here and stolen clothes, right? Rick Grimes
: You see the framed photos on the walls? Neither do I. Some random thief took those too, you think? Our photo albums, family pictures, all gone. Morgan Jones
: [starts to cry
] Photo albums.
] Morgan Jones
: My wife: same thing. There I am, packing survival gear, she's grabbing photo albums.
: [recognizing Leon as a walker
] Leon Basset? Didn't think much of him. Careless and dumb, but, can't leave him like this. Morgan Jones
: You know they'll hear the shot. Rick Grimes
: Let's not be here when they show up. Morgan Jones
: [to Duane
] Let's go, son. Come on.
: Told you he was tough. Nobody could kill Merle but Merle. Rick Grimes
: Don't take that out on faith. He's lost a lot of blood. Daryl Dixon
: Yeah? Didn't stop him from busting out of this death trap. Glenn
: He left the building. Why the hell would he do that? Daryl Dixon
: Why wouldn't he? He's out there alone as far as he knows, doing what he's gotta do. Surviving. T-Dog
: You call that surviving? Just wandering out in the streets, maybe passing out? What are his odds out there? Daryl Dixon
: No worse than being handcuffed and being left to rot by you sorry pricks. Daryl Dixon
: [to Rick
] You couldn't kill him. Ain't so worried about some dumb dead bastard. Rick Grimes
: What about 1,000 dumb dead bastards? Different story? Daryl Dixon
: Why don't you take a tally? Do want you want, I'm gonna go get him. Rick Grimes
: Daryl, wait. Daryl Dixon
: Get your hands off me! You can't stop me. Rick Grimes
: I don't blame you. He's family, I get that. I went through hell to find mine. I know exactly how you feel. He can't get far with that injury. We could help you check a few blocks around but only if we keep a level head. Daryl Dixon
: I can do that.
: Admit it, you only came back to Atlanta for the hat. Rick Grimes
: Don't tell anybody. Daryl Dixon
: You've given away half our guns and ammo. Glenn
: Not nearly half. Daryl Dixon
: For what? A bunch of old farts who are gonna die off momentarily anyhow? Seriously, how long do you think they got? Glenn
: How long do any of us?
: What's to stop my people from unloading on you right now, and I take what's mine? Rick Grimes
: We could do that... or
[looks to T-Dog with sniper rifle
: Ojey! The way I see it is we got two options. Guillermo
: Either come back with Miguel and my bag of guns, or come back locked and loaded, and we'll see which side spills more blood.
: [after Guillermo and his gang are exposed
] Can I have a word with you? You're the dumbest son of a bitch I have ever met. We walked in here ready to kill every last one of you! Guillermo
: I'm glad it didn't go down that way. Rick Grimes
: If it had, that blood would be on MY hands. Guillermo
: Mine too. We'd have fought back. Wouldn't be the first time we've had to. Protect the food, medicine. What's left of it. These people, the old ones. Staff just took off, just left them here to die!
: Me and Felipe, we were the only ones who stayed. Rick Grimes
: What are you? Doctors? Guillermo
: Felipe's a nurse. Special care provider. Me? I'm the custodian.
: The people we've encountered since things fell apart? The worst kind. Plunderers. The kind that take by force. Rick Grimes
: That's not who we are. Guillermo
: How was I to know? My people got attacked and you show up with Miguel hostage. Appearances. T-Dog
: Guess the world changed. Guillermo
: No. It's the same as it ever was. The weak get taken.
: [after explaining his crew's spirit in their hopeless situation
] The people here, they all look to me now. I don't even know why. Rick Grimes
: [with genuine respect
] Because they can.
[turns over some weapons to help them
: We can tend to that wound for you, give you a little food and water, and then send you on the way. But you're gonna have to tell us how you found us and why you were carrying formula. Michonne
: The supplies were dropped by a young Asian guy with a pretty girl. Rick Grimes
: What happened? Hershel Greene
: Were they attacked? Michonne
: They were taken? Rick Grimes
: Taken? By who? Michonne
: By the same son of a bitch who shot me. Rick Grimes
: Hey, these are our people. You tell us what happened now! Michonne
: Don't you ever touch me again! Daryl Dixon
: [points crossbow at her head
] You better start talking. You're gonna have a much bigger problem than a gunshot wound. Michonne
: Find 'em yourself.
: Daryl's been calling her Ass-Kicker. Rick Grimes
: Ass-Kicker? Has he, now? Carl Grimes
: I've been thinking, what we should really call her? Rick Grimes
: What do you think? Carl Grimes
: Remember my third grade teacher, Mrs. Mueller? Rick Grimes
: Of course. Carl Grimes
: Her first name was Judith. Do you think that's a good name? Rick Grimes
: I think that's - that's a fine name. Judith it is.
: Daryl's been calling her ass kicker. Rick Grimes
: Ass kicker? Has he now? Carl Grimes
: I've been thinking, what should we really call her. Rick Grimes
: What do you think?
: Judith. Do you think that's a good name? Rick Grimes
: I think... I think that's a fine name. Judith it is.
: I know what you did for me, for my baby. While I was working things out. Thank you. Daryl Dixon
: It's what we do.
: It was coming at me, bro. Rick Grimes
: Yeah, yeah, I get it. I get it. Shit happens.
[Rick chops him in the head with a machete
: I thought, maybe, you were coming out here to talk about us. Maybe there's nothing to talk about anymore. Rick Grimes
: We're awful grateful for what you did.
[He walks away, Lori cries
: Let me back in man! Let me back in! Open that up man, open it up! Rick Grimes
: You better run.
: Do not leave his sight. If he dies you need to be there for that. You think you can do this? Maggie'll be there. Glenn Rhee
: I got it. Rick Grimes
: I can bring T-Dog in here... Glenn Rhee
: I got it! Rick Grimes
: We took this prison. Its ours! We spilled blood.
: We're eating his food now? Michonne
: The mat said "Welcome."
: Hey, your boy, is he dead? Rick Grimes
: No. Morgan Jones
: No? He will be. See, 'cause people like you, the good people, they always die. And the bad people do, too. But the weak people, the people like me... we have inherited the earth.
: Do you know who I am? Do you see who I am? Morgan Jones
: People wearing dead people's faces.
: We found a prison. The fences can keep 'em out. Morgan Jones
: Is that where your wife died? Just go. Don't go back. Don't stop. Just get yourself some more time. Rick Grimes
: Look, I can help you. You can come back with us. You can heal. Morgan Jones
: You're taking a lot of guns, Rick. No, I'm just saying that that all is a lot of guns. Why do you need the guns, Rick? 'Cause if you got something good, that just means that someone wants to take it. And that is what is happening, right? Rick Grimes
: We're gonna win. You can be there. You can help. Morgan Jones
: You will be torn apart by teeth or bullets. You and your boy. Your people, but not me. Because I'm not gonna watch that happen again.
: You see something? I know you see things. People. I used to talk to my dead boyfriend. It happens. Rick Grimes
: You want to drive? Michonne
: Yeah. Rick Grimes
: Good. I see things.
: H.I.T.s? Dr. Edwin Jenner
: [to computer
] Vi, define. Vi
: H.I.T.s - high-impulse thermobaric fuel-air explosive consists of a two-stage aerosol ignition which produces a blast wave of significantly greater power and duration than any other known explosive except nuclear. The vacuum-pressure effect ignites the oxygen between 5,000 and 6,000 degrees and is used when the greatest loss of life and damage to structures is desired. Dr. Edwin Jenner
: It sets the air on fire. No pain. An end to sorrow, grief, regret. Everything.
Dr. Edwin Jenner
: You *do* want this. Last night you said you knew it was just a matter of time before everybody you loved was dead. Shane Walsh
: What? You really said that? After all your big talk? Rick Grimes
: I had to keep hope alive, didn't I? Dr. Edwin Jenner
: There is no hope. There never was. Rick Grimes
: There's always hope. Maybe it won't you, maybe not be here. But somebody somewhere... Andrea
: What part of "everything is gone" do you not understand? Dr. Edwin Jenner
: Listen to your friend. She gets it. This is what takes us down. This is our extinction event. Carol Peletier
: This isn't right. You can't just keep us here. Dr. Edwin Jenner
: One tiny moment - a millisecond. No pain. Carol Peletier
: My daughter doesn't deserve to die. Dr. Edwin Jenner
: Wouldn't it be kinder, to be more compassionate to just hold your loved ones and wait for the clock to run down?
: What happens in 28 minutes?
[hits Dr. Jenner's chair
] Rick Grimes
: WHAT HAPPENS in 28 minutes? Dr. Edwin Jenner
: [getting up, shouting
] Do you *know* what this place is? We protected the public from some very nasty *stuff*! Weaponized, SMALL POX! Ebola strains that could wipe out *half the country*! Stuff you don't want getting out, EVER!
] How's the blood? Dr. Edwin Jenner
: No surprises.
: Only one way to keep you alive.
[chops off Hershel's leg
: We need to talk about... Rick Grimes
: About what? Lori Grimes
: Things we've been avoiding... Rick Grimes
: You wanna talk? Talk to Herschel. I'm doing stuff Lori. Things. Isn't that enough? I'm still here. Lori Grimes
: You're right. I'm sorry.
[Rick walks away
: It's perfect.
: They're gonna feel pretty stupid when they find out. Sgt. Abraham Ford
: Find out what? Rick Grimes
: They're screwing with the wrong people.
Bald and Bearded Marauder
: [holding a knife to Carl's throat
] I'll kill him! Michonne
: Let the boy go. Rick Grimes
: [brandishing Joe's knife
] He's mine.
: We're gonna tell them who we are. The kind of people that we are. Carl Grimes
: How do you do that? I mean, who are we?
: Rick! Come down here. We need to talk. Rick Grimes
: It's not up to me. There's a council now. They run this place. The Governor
: Is Hershel on the council? What about Michonne? She on the council, too? Rick Grimes
: I don't make decisions anymore. The Governor
: You're making the decisions today, Rick. Come down here. Let's have that talk.
: [points to Alisha
] You. You in the ponytails. Is this what you want? Is this what any one of you want? Mitch Dolgen
: What we want is what you got. Period. Time for you to leave, asshole. Rick Grimes
: Look, I've fought him before. And after, we took in his old friends. They've become leaders in what we have here. Now you put down your weapons, walk through those gates... you're one of us. We let go of all of it, and nobody dies. Everyone who's alive right now. Everyone's who's made it this far. We've all done the worst kinds of things just to stay alive. But we can still come back. We're not too far gone. We get to come back. I know... we all can change. The Governor
: Don't look back, Carl. Just keep walking.
: [Rick is leaving the camp to save Merle
] Well look, I-Idon't, okay Rick, so could you just-could you throw me a bone here, man? Could you just tell me why: why would you risk your life for a douchebag like Merle Dixon? Daryl Dixon
: Hey, choose your words more carefully. Shane Walsh
: Oh no, I did. Douchebag's what I meant.
] Shane Walsh
: Merle Dixon: guy wouldn't give you a glass of water if you were dyin' of thirst. Rick Grimes
: What he would or wouldn't do doesn't interest me: *I* can't let a man die of thirst, me: thirst, and exposure. We left him like an animal caught in a trap, that's no way for anything to die, let alone a human being.
: [Shane has Daryl in a chokehold after Rick broke the news about Merle being left behind
] I would like to have a calm discussion on this topic. You think we can manage that?
] Rick Grimes
: You think we can manage that? Rick Grimes
: [Shane releases Daryl
] What I did was not on a whim. Your brother does not work or play well with others.
: [after Rick announces he's going back to save Merle
] So you and Daryl, that's your... big plan? Glenn Rhee
: [Rick turns and stares at Glenn, who dreads what he's about to be asked
] Aww, come on. Rick Grimes
: You know the way. You been there before. In and out, no problem, you said so yourself. It's not fair of me to ask, I know that, but I'd feel a lot better with you along. I know she would too.
] Rick Grimes
: [into walkie-talkie
] Morgan: I don't know if you're out there, I don't know if you can hear me, maybe you're listening right now. I hope so. I found others: my family, if you can believe it. My wife and son, they're alive, I wanted you to know that. There's something else you *need* to know: Atlanta isn't what we thought, it's not what they promised, the city is... do not enter the city. It belongs to the dead now. We're camped a few miles northwest, up by a big, abandoned rock quarry: you can see it on a map. I hope you come find us, but be careful: last night, walkers came out of the woods. We lost people. Watch yourself, Morgan, take care of your boy. I'll try you again tomorrow at dawn.
: [the RV has stopped
] We'll be back on the road soon. Jim
: Oh no. Christ. My bones, my bones are like glass: every little bump. God, this ride is killing me. Leave me here: I'm done. Just leave me. I want to be with my family. Rick Grimes
: They're all dead. I don't think you know what you're asking. The fever; you've been delirious more often than not. Jim
: I know, don't you think I know? I'm clear now. In five minutes I may not be. Rick, I know what I'm asking: I want this. Leave me here. Now that's on me. Okay? My decision. Not your failure.
: [about to mercy kill Jim
] You go looking for aspirin, do what you need to do. Someone needs to have some balls to take care of this damn problem! Shane Walsh
: Hey hey hey!
[Daryl heads toward Jim with his pickaxe and tries to take a swing. Rick points his gun at Daryl's head
] Rick Grimes
: We *don't* kill the living. Daryl Dixon
: That's funny coming from a man who just put a gun to my head. Shane Walsh
: We may disagree on some things, not on this. You put it down. Go on.
: You didn't wake me up. Rick Grimes
: 'Cause I knew you were up all night reading comics with a flashlight.
: [to Clara after stabbing herself and is lying on the ground dying
] Hey. Clara
: [Labored breathing
] What were... the questions? The three questions? Rick Grimes
: How many Walkers have you killed? Clara
: Eddie-Eddie killed-killed them all. Until...
] Rick Grimes
: How many people have you killed? Clara
] Just me. Just me. Rick Grimes
: Why? Clara
] You don't-you don't get to come back. You don't get to come back from things. You don't...
: [Clara dies. Rick regards a bag moving. Eddie's head growls from within. Rick leaves Clara to reanimate as a Walker to be with Eddie
: That's something, isn't it? It's good to pause for an occasional reminder. Rick Grimes
: Of what? Hershel Greene
: Whatever comes to mind. For me it's often God. No thoughts on that? Rick Grimes
: Last time I asked God for a favor and stopped to admire a view, my son got shot. I try not to mix it up with the Almighty anymore. Best we stay out of each others way. Hershel Greene
: Lori told me your story - how you were shot, the coma. Yet you came out of it somehow. You did not feel God's hand in yours? Rick Grimes
: At that moment? No, I did not. Hershel Greene
: In all the chaos you found your wife and boy. Then he was shot and he survived. That tells you nothing? Rick Grimes
: It tells me God's got a strange sense of humor.
: Hey, I'm like you now. We've both been shot. Isn't that weird? Rick Grimes
: Yeah, I think your mother would rather hear we got the same eyes. So let's keep that between us. Since in you're in the club now, you get to wear the hat. Didn't you know?
: [Jimmy reaches for a rifle; Rick takes it from him
] You ever fire one before? Jimmy
: Well, if I'm going out I want one. Daryl Dixon
: Yeah, and people in hell want Slurpees.
: I'm going to borrow a horse and head up to this ridge right here. Get a bird's eye view of the whole grid. If she's up there I'll spot her. T-Dog
: Good idea. Maybe you'll see your chupacabra up there, too. Rick Grimes
: Chupacabra? Dale Horvath
: You never heard that story? First night in camp, Daryl tell us the whole thing reminds him of the time he went squirrel hunting and he saw a chupacabra. Jimmy
] Daryl Dixon
: What are you braying at, jackass? Jimmy
: So, you believe in a bloodsucking dog? Daryl Dixon
: You believe in dead people walking around?
: Are you serious? You want them living in a cell next to you? They'll just be waiting for a chance to grab our weapons. You want to go back to sleeping with one eye open? T-Dog
: I never stopped. Bring them into the fold. If we send them off packing, we might as well execute them ourselves. Glenn Rhee
: I don't know. Axel seems a little unstable. Carol Peletier
: After all we've been through? We've fought so hard for all this, what if they decide to take it? Maggie Greene
: It's just been us for so long. They're strangers, I don't - it feels weird all of a sudden to have these other people around. T-Dog
: You brought us in. Maggie Greene
: Yeah, but you turned out with a shot boy in your arms. Didn't give us a choice. Glenn Rhee
: They can't even kill walkers. Carol Peletier
: They're convicts, bottom line. T-Dog
: Those two might even less blood on their hands then we do. Daryl Dixon
: I get guys like this. Hell, I grew up with them. They're degenerates, but they ain't psychos. I could have been in there with them just as easy I'm out here with you guys.
: We'll give the prisoners a week's worth of supplies for the road. T-Dog
: They might not last a week. Rick Grimes
: Their choice. T-Dog
: Did they really have one? Rick Grimes
: Hey, whose blood would you rather have on your hands? Glenn's? Maggie's? Or theirs? T-Dog
: Nice moves there, Clint Eastwood. You're the new sheriff come riding in to clean up the town? Rick Grimes
: Wasn't my intention. Glenn
: Yeah, whatever. Yeehah. You're still a dumbass.
: [while being smeared with zombie guts
] Oh, this is bad. This is really bad. Rick Grimes
: Think about something else. Puppies and kittens. T-Dog
: *Dead* puppies and kittens.
: He helped us get out of there. Rick Grimes
: Yeah, right after he beat the shit out of you. Merle Dixon
: Hey, we both took our licks, man. Daryl Dixon
: [to Michonne
] Hey, do you know Andrea? Merle Dixon
: Yep, she does. Her and blondie spent all winter cuddling up in the forest. Mm-mmm-mmm. Yeah. My Nubian queen here had two pet walkers. No arms, cut off the jaws, kept them in chains. Kind of ironic now that I think about it.
] Rick Grimes
: [into the walkie-talkie to Morgan
] I guess I'm losing hope that you can hear me... but there's always that chance, isn't there? That slim chance. It's all about slim chances now. I tried to do everything right, keep people safe. I tried, Morgan, I tried. Our group's smaller now. We lost another, day before last. It was her choice, I won't say I blame her. The CDC was a dead end. I met a man there, a scientist. He told me something. He told me... it doesn't matter. What matters is, we're moving on. Atlanta's done. We're gonna try for Fort Benning. We're facing a long, hard journey, maybe even harder than I can imagine... but it can't be harder than our journey's been so far, can it? A hundred and twenty-five miles. That's what lies ahead. I'm trying hard not to lose faith. I can't; if I do, the others... my family... my wife... my son... There's just a few of us now, so we gotta stick together, fight for each other, be willing to lay down our lives for each other if it comes to that. It's the only chance we've got. Be careful out there Morgan. I hope you and Duane are okay. Stay off the road. Keep moving. Keep your eyes open. I don't know, just... just be safe. Maybe we'll see you in Fort Benning some day. Rick; signing off.
: Dale coud - could get under your skin. He sure got under mine, because he wasn't afraid to say what he thought, how he felt. That kind of honest is rare and brave. Whenever I'd make a decision, I'd look at Dale. He'd be looking back at me with that look he had. We've all seen it one time or another. I couldn't always read him, but he could read us. He saw people for who they were. He knew things about us - the truth who we really are. In the end, he was talking about losing our humanity. He said this group was broken. The best way to honor him is to unbreak it. Set aside our differences and pull together, stop feeling sorry for ourselves and take control of our lives... our safety... our future. We're not broken. We're gonna prove him wrong. From now on... we're gonna do it his way. That is how we honor Dale.
: You want me to cover Glenn? Rick Grimes
: You missed all that gun training. It could've come in handy now. Hershel Greene
: Nah, I can shoot. Just don't like to.
: Wasn't much use without my gun. Daryl Dixon
: No, you were. All this time you've taking off, you earned it. We wouldn't be here without you. Rick Grimes
: It was all of us. Daryl Dixon
: No, it was you first. You gonna help us figure this out? Rick Grimes
: I screwed up too many times. Those calls you gotta make, I start down that road... I almost lost my boy - who he was. Whatever else this place needs, I'm here for it. Daryl Dixon
: Like I said, you earned it. But for what it's worth, you see mistakes. I see when the shit hits, you're standing there with a shovel.
: You know I wouldn't have hobbled all the way down here if it wasn't important. Are you coming back soon? Glenn's on a warpath. Smart as he is, he can't fill your boots. I'm afraid he's reckless. We need you now more than ever. Rick Grimes
: Well, If you're so worried about him, you lead. Hershel Greene
: What are you doing out here? Rick Grimes
: I've- I've been- I've got... stuff out here. Stuff.
: Dad, you can't keep me from it. Rick Grimes
: What? Carl Grimes
: From what always happens. Rick Grimes
: I know. But it's my job to try.
: I tied the door shut. Rick Grimes
: We don't need to take any chances. Carl Grimes
: You don't think it'll hold? Rick Grimes
: Carl. Carl Grimes
: It's a strong knot. Clove hitch. Shane taught me. Remember him? Rick Grimes
: Yeah, I remember him. I remember him every day.
: These things ain't sick. They're not people. They're dead. Ain't gonna feel nothing for them 'cause all they do, they kill! These things right here, they're the things that killed Amy. They killed Otis. They're gonna kill all of us.
[pulls out gun
] Shane Walsh
: Hey, Hershel, man, let me ask you something. Can a living breathing person, could they walk away from this?
[shoots walker in its chest
] Rick Grimes
: No! Stop it! Shane Walsh
: That's three rounds in the chest. Could someone who's alive, can they just take that? Why is it still coming?
[shoots walker in its chest again
] Shane Walsh
: That's its heart, its lungs. Why is it still coming?
[shoots it again
] Rick Grimes
: Shane, enough! Shane Walsh
: Yeah, you're right, man. That is enough.
[shoots walker in the head, killing it
: Daryl, this was Merle. It was. He did this. Rick Grimes
: You saw him? Glenn Rhee
: Face to face. Threw a walker at me. He was gonna execute us. Daryl Dixon
: S-So my brother's this governor? Maggie Greene
: No, it's somebody else. Your brother is his lieutenant or something. Daryl Dixon
: Does he know I'm still with you? Glenn Rhee
: He does now. Rick, I'm sorry. We told him where the prison was. We couldn't hold out. Rick Grimes
: Don't. No need to apologize.
: I thought you were a cop, not a lawyer. Rick Grimes
: Either way, I don't pretend to be a governor. The Governor
: I told you, I'm their leader. Rick Grimes
: You're the town drunk who knocked over my fence and ripped up my yard, nothing more. The Governor
: Didn't you ever misjudge someone? Hmm? Andrea told me about your baby. That it might be your partner's. But you're caring for her and I admire that. Restitution for your own lack of insight. For failing to see the devil beside you. Rick Grimes
: Oh, I see him, all right.
