"Game of Thrones: The Wolf and the Lion (#1.5)" (2011)
[Maester Luwin teaches Bran about the noble Houses of Westeros, while Theon practices shooting arrows]
Maester Luwin: Bran!
[Maester Luwin taps with his staff on the map, pointing at the Iron Isles]
Bran Stark: Iron Isles. Sigil: a kraken. Words: "We do not Sow".
Maester Luwin: Lords?
Bran Stark: The Greyjoys.
Theon Greyjoy: Famed for their skills in archery, navigation and lovemaking.
[Theon chuckles and turns back to practice]
Maester Luwin: [dryly] And failed rebellions.
[Maester Luwin points at Storm's End]
Bran Stark: Sigil: a stag. A crowned stag, now that Robert is the king.
Maester Luwin: Good.
Bran Stark: Words: "Our is the Fury". Lords: the Baratheons.
[Maester Luwin points at Lannisport]
Bran Stark: The Westerlands. Sigil: a lion. Words: "A Lannister always pays his debts".
Maester Luwin: No. A common saying, but not their official motto.
Bran Stark: Lords: the Lannisters.
Maester Luwin: We're still on the words.
Bran Stark: I don't know them.
Maester Luwin: You do know them. Think.
Bran Stark: "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken".
Maester Luwin: [sighs] That's House Martell.
Bran Stark: "Righteous in Wrath".
Maester Luwin: House Hornwood.

Bran Stark: "Family, Duty, Honor".
[Bran makes scratches on the desk with his fish brooch]
Maester Luwin: Those are Tully's words, your mother's. Are we playing a game?
Bran Stark: "Family, Duty, Honor". Is that the right order?
Maester Luwin: You know it is.
Bran Stark: Family comes first.
Maester Luwin: You mother had to leave Winterfell to protect the family.
Bran Stark: How can she protect the family if she is not with her family?
Maester Luwin: Your mother sat by your bed for three weeks while you slept.
Bran Stark: [slightly raises his voice] And then she left!
Maester Luwin: When you were born, I was the one who pulled you from your mother. I placed you in her arms. From that moment, and till the moment she dies, she will love you absolutely... fiercely.
Bran Stark: Why did she leave?
Maester Luwin: I still can't tell you. But she will be home soon.
Bran Stark: Do you know where she is now? Today?
Maester Luwin: No, I don't.
Bran Stark: Then how can you promise me she will be home soon?
Maester Luwin: [smiles] Sometimes I worry you are too smart for your own good.

[Bran looks enviously at Theon while he shoots arrows at practice target]
Bran Stark: [forlornly] I will never shoot another arrow.
Maester Luwin: And where is that written?
Bran Stark: You need legs to work a bow.
Maester Luwin: Hmmm. If the saddle Lord Tyrion designed actually works, you could learn to shoot a bow from horseback.
Bran Stark: Really?
Maester Luwin: Dothraki boys learn when they're four year old. Why shouldn't you?
[Bran smiles]

"Game of Thrones: Valar Morghulis (#2.10)" (2012)
Theon Greyjoy: [Theon is brooding in his chambers at Winterfell while a Northman incessantly blows a horn outside the walls] I WILL kill that man. I don't care how many arrows they feather me with, how many spears they run through me, I will kill that horn-blowing cunt before I fall.
Maester Luwin: They want you to know you're surrounded.
Theon Greyjoy: I know I'm surrounded. I know that because I stood on the battlements and saw I was surrounded.
Maester Luwin: They don't want you to sleep. They want to sap your spirit before they...
Theon Greyjoy: [sarcastically] Thank you, wise bald man! Thank you for explaining siege tactics to me.
Theon Greyjoy: No word from my father?
Maester Luwin: No.
Theon Greyjoy: Send more ravens.
Maester Luwin: You killed all the ravens.
Theon Greyjoy: The first time I saw Winterfell...
[the horn blows again; Theon waits for it to finish with an irritated look on his face]
Theon Greyjoy: The first time I saw Winterfell, it looked like something that had been here for thousands of years, and would be here for thousands of years after I was dead. I saw it, and I thought, "Of course Ned Stark crushed our rebellion and killed my brothers. We never stood a chance against a man who lives here."
Maester Luwin: Lord Stark went out of his way to make it your home.
Theon Greyjoy: Yes, my captors were so very kind to me, you love reminding me of that. Everyone in this frozen pile of shit has always loved reminding me of that. You know what it's like to be told how lucky you are to be someone's prisoner? To be told how much YOU owe THEM? And then to go back home to your real father...
[the horn blows again; Theon jumps up in fury]
Theon Greyjoy: I will kill that man! I swear to the Drowned God, the old gods, the new gods, to every fucking god in every fucking heaven, I will kill that man!
Maester Luwin: Theon, listen to me. I serve Winterfell. Now Winterfell is yours. I'm bound by oath to serve you.
Theon Greyjoy: And what's your counsel, trusted friend?
Maester Luwin: Run. Five hundred Northmen wait outside the walls. You have twenty men. You can't win. Wait for nightfall and run.
Theon Greyjoy: There's nowhere to run. I'd never make it back to the Iron Islands. And even if I did, even if by some miracle I slipped through the lines and made it home, I'd be a coward. "The Greyjoy who ran." The shame of the family.
Maester Luwin: Don't go home. Join the Night's Watch. Once a man has taken the black, he's beyond reach of the law. All his past crimes are forgiven.
Theon Greyjoy: I won't make it to the Wall. I won't make it ten feet past the Winterfell gates.
Maester Luwin: There are ways. Hidden passageways, built so the lords of Winterfell could escape. The road will be dangerous, but with a little luck... the Night's Watch is an ancient, honorable order. You'll have opportunities there.
Theon Greyjoy: The opportunity for Jon Snow to cut my throat in my sleep!
Maester Luwin: The opportunity to make amends for what you've done.
Theon Greyjoy: I've done a lot, haven't I? Things I never imagined myself doing.
Maester Luwin: I've known you many years, Theon Greyjoy. You're not the man you're pretending to be.
[he puts a comforting hand on Theon's shoulder]
Maester Luwin: Not yet.
Theon Greyjoy: [in despair] You may be right. But I've gone too far to pretend to be anything else.

Theon Greyjoy: [Theon addresses him men as the horn continues to blow outside the walls] You hear that? That's the mating call of the Northmen. They want to fuck us! Well, I haven't had a good fuck in weeks, I'm ready for one!
[the ironborn laugh]
Theon Greyjoy: They say that every ironborn man is worth a dozen from the mainland.
Ironborn: Aye.
Theon Greyjoy: You think they're right?
Lorren: Aye.
Theon Greyjoy: We die today, brothers! We die bleeding from a hundred wounds, with arrows in our necks and spears in our guts! But our war cries will echo through eternity. They will sing about the Battle of Winterfell until the Iron Islands have slipped beneath the waves. Every man, woman, and child will know who we were and how long we stood! Aggar and Gelmarr! Wex and Urzen! Stygg and Black Lorren! Ironborn warriors will cry out our names as they leap onto the shores of Seagard and Faircastle!
Ironborn: Aye!
Theon Greyjoy: Mothers will name their sons for us!
Ironborn: Aye!
Theon Greyjoy: Girls will think of us with their lovers inside them!
Ironborn: Aye!
[the horn blows again]
Theon Greyjoy: And whoever kills that fucking horn-blower will stand in bronze above the shores of Pyke!
Ironborn: Aye!
Theon Greyjoy: [thumping his chest] What is dead may never die!
Ironborn: [thumping their chests] What is dead may never die!
[Theon yells out a war cry, but Dagmer suddenly hits him over the head with his spear, knocking him unconscious]
Lorren: Thought he'd never shut up.
Dagmer Cleftjaw: It was a good speech. Didn't want to interrupt.
[the ironborn place a hood over Theon's head. Maester Luwin appears and walks up to Dagmer]
Maester Luwin: What is this? What are you doing?
[Dagmer shoves his spear into Luwin's stomach and twists it; Luwin screams in pain and falls to the ground]
Dagmer Cleftjaw: Let's go home.
[the ironborn drag Theon away, leaving the mortally wounded Luwin lying on the ground]

"Game of Thrones: Winter Is Coming (#1.1)" (2011)
Catelyn Stark: We'll need plenty of candles for Lord Tyrion's chamber. I'm told he reads all night.
Maester Luwin: I'm told he drinks all night.
Catelyn Stark: How much could he possibly drink, a man of his... stature?
Maester Luwin: We've brought up eight barrels of ale from the cellar. Perhaps we'll find out.
Catelyn Stark: In any case, candles.

"Game of Thrones: The Pointy End (#1.8)" (2011)
Robb Stark: Treason? Sansa wrote this.
Maester Luwin: It is your sister's hand but the Queen's words. Your summoned to King's Landing to swear fealty to the new King.
Robb Stark: Joffrey puts my father in chains, now he wants his ass kissed.
Maester Luwin: This is a royal command, my Lord. If you should refuse to obey...
Robb Stark: I won't refuse. If His Grace summons me to go to King's Landing, I'll go to King's Landing. But not alone. Call the banners.
Maester Luwin: All of them, my Lord?
Robb Stark: They've all sworn to defend my father, have they not?
Maester Luwin: They have.
Robb Stark: Now we'll see what the words are worth.
