In the episode "Water of Mars", Adelaide Brooke is the commander of the first expedition from Earth to Mars, in the years 2058 and 2059.

Brooke was born in London (UK) on 12 May 1999. In 2008, during the invasion of Earth by the daleks, she lost her parents and met a dalek that does not kill her, knowing the important role she will play in the future.

She studied at Cambridge University and achieved a first honours degree in combined Physics and Mathematics. She earned a doctorate degree in Physics at Rice University. Following her fellowship she began working at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

Brooke became the first NASA candidate selected that was not a citizen of the US. She became, at the age of 42, the first woman to land on Mars. In 2058 Brooke led the first mission to colonize Mars. Her destiny was to die in the destruction of the Martian colony in 2059 and inspire her niece to become the first human extrasolar traveler.

The Doctor manages to save her and bring her back to Earth, but Brooke, not wanting to change the future, commits suicide.
