Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy)

King Robert Baratheon is the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm.

Robert was fostered by Lord Jon Arryn at the Eyrie along with his best friend Eddard "Ned" Stark and was betrothed to Ned's sister Lyanna, whom he loved dearly. Lyanna, however, was kidnapped by Crown Prince Rhaegar Targaryen setting in motion a chain of events that left Lord Rickard Stark and Ned's brother, Brandon, dead, and the mad King Aerys II Targaryen demanding from Lord Jon the heads of Robert and Ned as well. Lord Jon rose up in rebellion instead, with Ned and Robert rallying the North and the Stormlands respectively. Robert, a strong fighter with the best claim to the throne among the three great lords, soon became the leader of the revolt, which became known as Robert's Rebellion.

Since overthrowing the Targaryens was how Robert became king of the Seven Kingdoms he is known as "The Usurper."

He married Lord Tywin Lannister's daughter Cersei, fathering four children. His realm was at peace for most of his reign, save for Greyjoy's rebellion five years into his reign, which he crushed with Ned's help.

Robert is jovial but given to excess, foundering in his role as political leader where he once flourished as a warrior. His marriage to Cersei is stormy.
