Captain Hammer is Dr. Horrible's nemesis, a handsome but narcissistic hero so accustomed to the praise and adoration of the public as well as the relative ease with which he dispatches his enemies that he has grown complacent about both. Due to Captain Hammer's meddling in Dr. Horrible's plot to obtain the Wonderflonium for his Freeze Ray, he ends up meeting Dr. Horrible's crush from the laundromat, Penny. Penny becomes attracted to Captain Hammer and they date until Captain Hammer tries to fire the malfunctioning Death Ray, causing him pain for (possibly) the first time in his life, sending him running away in tears, and into therapy.
