Robert Taylor played Detective Capt. Matt Holbrook was played in all 97 episodes of "The Detectives." Holbrook is a widower with no children. He is dedicated to his job, having worked his way up through the ranks of the police department. Holbrook is principled and dedicated and never takes the easy way out. He lives in an apartment with personal effects from his wife stored in the garage. Lisa Bonay, a reporter, is his current love interest. She is played by Taylor's wife Ursula Thiess. Holbrook dislikes hippies, has a strong empathy with children and loves the outdoors. He was a fighter pilot in World War II. Matt Holbrook is also an expert bowler and leads a team from the detective squad. He is supportive of his subordinates but also strict with them.
