Rufio is Julius Caesar's right-hand man in George Bernard Shaw's play "Caesar and Cleopatra". He also appears in the Elizabeth Taylor film "Cleopatra" and in the 1999 miniseries about the "Queen of the Nile".

In "Caesar and Cleopatra", Rufio is Caesar's confidante and best friend. (Brutus does not appear in the play; Shaw, in his writings, revealed that did not think much of the real Brutus.) After Cleopatra's nurse Ftatateeta, under Cleopatra's orders, murders the toadying Pothinus, Cleopatra boasts of her deed to Rufio, who is searching for the murderer. Rufio promptly, and silently, kills Ftatateeta.
