Played by Ronnie Claire Edwards and introduced in the series' third season as John's visiting cousin from Doe Hill; Corabeth Walton starts as a mousy spinster who, after some persuasion from John and Olivia, hesitantly marries storekeeper Ike Godsey after his proposal following their first date. Sensitive and high strung, Corabeth makes for a dramatic wife. A turning point for the character comes with a false pregnancy and the discovery that she is unable to have children. This leads her and Ike to adopt Amy, an orphan who is at first unsure of Corabeth's effete ways and discloses the fact. Another milestone comes with her development of, and subsequent recovery from a brief battle with alcoholism. Nervous and needy in the beginning, Corabeth Godsey evolved into a caring, enterprising, albeit opinionated "grand lady," who wasn't shy in her disdain for the backwoods lifestyle on Walton's Mountain. Although Corabeth's fussy and meddlesome quirks sometimes made her the antagonist, she was always redeemed in the end.
