Prasutagus was a first century king of the Iceni (a Celtic tribe in what is now the county of Norfolk, England). He maintained a preferred status under Roman dominion, although it is unclear whether he was one of the kings who surrendered to Claudius (in his conquest of the island in AD 43), or whether he was established as king by the Romans to replace another. In his will he left his two daughters and the Roman empires as joint heirs of his kingdom, but the Romans ignored the will and claimed the kingdom of the Iceni entirely for themselves. Furthermore, they flogged his widow, Boudica, and raped their two daughters, and in response Boudica led her doomed rebellion against the Romans.
