Steve's mother died when he was young, and only late he learns Mark wrestled with the dilemma whether to grant her plea for euthanasia. Steve is tall, strong, handsome, studly and in great shape, so he often gets a date, but never finds trueove (or looses the candidate tragically too soon to be quite sure), so he lives with Mark in his Malibu beach house, his plans to move out come to nothing. Steve is an honest cop, morally upright and devoted to his job and to justice, often goes an extra mile or even two and even sticks hisneck out bravin,g procedure a,d the official police hierarchy to help aging dad Mark's brilliant investigations, for Steve is no match at all for the 'medical police consultant' when it comes to IQ, deduction and inspiration.
