Orville "Rick" Wright is a Vietnam War comrade of Thomas Magnum and T.C. Calvin. He manages the exclusive King Kamehameha Club in Honolulu, of which Jonathan Higgins is a board member. Rick cultivates a resemblance to Rick Blaine, Humphrey Bogart's character in "Casablanca," who managed Rick's Caf Americain. The Chicago native seems to know everyone and has contacts in the criminal world as well as in the police force, so he's always a good source of information. Rick's friend, crime boss "Ice Pick", played by Elsiha Cook, is a mentor and father figure to him, and Ice Pick also helps Magnum in several episodes. In contrast to the hard-working T.C. and the outdoorsy Magnum, Rick is the suave man-about-town, a snazzy dresser, and definitely in with the in crowd. Although he often complains about Magnum not paying his tab at the club, Rick's always there to help his buddies in a crisis.

Rick's full name was not revealed until his wedding in the final episode of the series. His full name was Orville Wilbur Wright III.
