Dr. David Q. Dawson is the friend, biographer and sidekick to Basil of Baker Street, the greatest detective of the rodent world.

When the doctor is discharged from the army and returns from service in Afghanistan, he stumbles across a little girl mouse named Olivia and helps her to find Basil. The detective swiftly enlists Dawson's aid in solving the mystery of the disappearance of Olivia's father.

The case takes Dawson from the seamiest parts of London to Buckingham Palace, and brings him face to face with the world's greatest criminal mind, Professor Ratigan. When Basil saves the day, Dr. Dawson agrees to stay on as his associate and the two go on to solve many cases together.

Dawson is a rotund mouse, amiable but sometimes timid. He has a compassionate nature and, although he seems a bit dim beside Basil's genius, he manages to find several clues and, more importantly, rally Basil to action when the detective is in despair, thereby proving his worth to the Great Mouse Detective.

Dawson appears as a guest star on 3 episodes of Disney's House of Mouse.
