"Oz: A Game of Checkers (#1.8)" (1997)
[During 1997 prison riot]
Inmates: [chanting] Said! Said! Said!
Kareem Said: [Raises his hand and all inmates stop chanting] Gentlemen.
Warden Glynn: What's this about Said?
Kareem Said: If you have to ask, Glynn, then we got a long day ahead of us.

[during the riot, Adebisi goes through severe heroin withdrawals, and starts looting. Said points the gun at him]
Kareem Said: Adebisi! It's over!
Simon Adebisi: You want to kill me?
Kareem Said: No, I don't want to kill you.
Simon Adebisi: That's right, you want to save my ass.
Kareem Said: That's right, I want to save you.
Simon Adebisi: Then, please, give me some tits. Give me some tits. GIVE ME SOME FUCKING TITS!

Tim McManus: Said, I grew up in a small town, upstate New York. There was only one major industry there, the prison. Everybody's parents either worked at the prison or made a living from, you know, motels, gas stations, or, like my dad, had a diner. Right across the street. It was the fall, we'd just gone back to school, I was about to turn ten. I was very, very excited. A few days before my birthday, though, there was this riot. And it lasted four days. But then the Governor authorized 2500 troops, state troopers, to go back in, take it back. They did, firing at anything that moved. So when the tear gas cleared, 31 inmates and 9 hostages were dead.
Kareem Said: Attica.
Tim McManus: Three of my friends' fathers were shot. Instead of going to a birthday party, I went with my family to a memorial service.
Kareem Said: So that's what this is all about. Emerald City is your birthday party.

Kareem Said: You wanna save this place, right? And I want to destroy it. Brick by hypocritical brick.

"Oz: The Routine (#1.1)" (1997)
Prisoner #96C382 Dino Ortolani: You're not afraid to take a punch, huh?
Kareem Said: No, I'm not.
Prisoner #96C382 Dino Ortolani: You know all the answers too, huh?
Kareem Said: Not all, some.
Prisoner #96C382 Dino Ortolani: Well, too bad you're the wrong color.

Kareem Said: I would die for you, my brother.
Jefferson Keane: You gonna have to.

Tim McManus: In Em City we treat each other the way that we would like to be treated. We treat each other with respect.
Kareem Said: And what happens when one of us does not respect the other?
Tim McManus: There's violence.
Kareem Said: Then prison life isn't all that different from the outside world.
Tim McManus: Your celebrity status doesn't buy you any extra advantages here. All my prisoners are equal.
Kareem Said: How ironic. To finally be an equal in a place where I do not have the freedom to enjoy it.

Kareem Said: 78% of the population at Oswald State Penitentiary are men of color. The ratio is, at last count, one officer for every nine prisoners. We can take this prison anytime we want to.
Warden Leo Glynn: You can take it, but you wouldn't be able to keep it.
Kareem Said: That remains to be seen.
Warden Leo Glynn: Are you telling me you intend to start a riot?
Kareem Said: What I'm telling you is, as of today, I run Oz.
Warden Leo Glynn: Don't you fuck with me, my brother.

"Oz: Escape from Oz (#2.8)" (1998)
Governor James Devlin: The celebration of Ramadan is at the center of Islamic worship. Therefore, I am pleased, in the grand tradition of this holy time, to bestow clemency on a prisoner. Kareem Said has been an outspoken critic of our administration but, political differences aside, he has been an outstanding member of the prison population. Even after suffering a heart attack last year, he has continued to work with prisoners of every race and color, especially the young, to instruct them, guide them, to better lives. So I hereby grant Kareem Said a full pardon, and I wish him well in his new life.
Kareem Said: [to Devlin] Finally we meet face-to-face.
Reporter at Press Conference: Mr. Said, how do you feel?
Kareem Said: How do I feel? I feel joyless. My brothers remain behind. Imprisoned. Suppressed. I don't just mean my Muslim brothers; I mean every single man who will sleep in here tonight. Who is cut off from everything that he loves. Cut off from his own self. You know, as the word went around that the governor was going to give someone clemency, I saw a rift develop. As each inmate wished himself to be the chosen one. The longing to be free became as palpable as the food that we eat. But it is a meal I am being *served* right now. And I am Muslim, and Allah does not allow me to... swallow certain things. Allah does not allow me to take scraps from the hands of a man such as this. A man who is corrupt and immoral. A man who denigrates the gift of clemency just as he violates the principles of justice. A man that gave the order to cause the death of eight people. And so, Governor Devlin, because even the cost of freedom can be too high, I *refuse* your pardon!

Jonathan Coushaine: [word has spread about Beecher's broken bones] They broke his arms and his legs!
Jaz Hoyt: What is he gonna do when he gets an itch?
[Bikers laugh]
Chucky 'The Enforcer' Pancamo: He looked like a fuckin' pretzel!
Robert 'Bob' Rebadow: Beecher was in love
Agamemnon 'The Mole' Busmalis: Love hurts!
Kareem Said: [angry tone] Schillinger did this!
Ryan O'Reily: Fucking Schillinjur did this man!
Kenny Wangler: [looking at Beecher's pod] I want this pod. Gotta better view.

"Oz: Losing Your Appeal (#2.4)" (1998)
[about a possibility to get Hill a new trial]
Kareem Said: Do you want to replace me? You wanna get Beecher to take up our cause?
Augustus Hill: Our cause? This is not our cause, this is my fucking life! I am not you, man! I don't want to be a martyr or a fucking saint! All I want is to get out of here and be free. Either you can do that or you leave me the fuck alone!

Kareem Said: [working on Augustus' legal defense] Augustus, we need a smoking gun. We need to find a convicted felon who was asked to give a bribe, didn't, and then was sentenced unfairly.
Robert Rebadow: How do you know that one exists?
Tobias 'Toby' Beecher: And, if he does, how do you find him? It's a needle in a haystack.
Kareem Said: Quickest way to find the needle... burn the haystack.

"Oz: Ancient Tribes (#2.2)" (1998)
Tim McManus: Said, the Muslims weren't represented at the council meeting.
Kareem Said: If this council has real power, then we will participate.
Tim McManus: Well, how do you mean?
Kareem Said: Do we get to make policy or do we simply rubber stamp yours?
Tim McManus: This is a prison, not a democracy.

Tim McManus: You don't want to participate, that's fine. Just don't get in my way.
Kareem Said: McManus, you want us to be allies but that will never happen. Better for you to transfer me back to Gen Pop and be done with me.
Tim McManus: No. When I was laying in that hospital bed and I was afraid I was gonna die, I started praying. I'm not saying I had any great spiritual awakening, Said, but I did come to realize that my God and yours aren't so different. They both expect the best from us, and for us to find the best in each other.
Kareem Said: I've written another book, McManus. Coming out next month, it's about the riot. And when I was writing I looked for the best in you. Want to know what I found? A confused, frightened little man.
Tim McManus: Well, I was frightened and I was confused. But you take a bullet in the chest, you see things differently. People can change, Said. Even me. Even you.

"Oz: Plan B (#1.7)" (1997)
[Said, having recovered from a heart attack, catches Mershah trying to lead the Muslims]
Kareem Said: Huseini Mershah! You saw that I was dying and yet you walked away. I think you *wanted* me to die!
[Mershah tries to deny it, but Said won't hear it]
Kareem Said: NO! This man is *not* our brother, he is our enemy! As of this moment this man is CAST OUT! No Muslim shall *speak* to him, *look him in the eye* or *acknowledge* him!
[to Mershah]
Kareem Said: You wanted the death of another. Well, right now, you dead to us all!
[the Muslims walk away, leaving Mershah alone]

"Oz: Family Bizness (#2.5)" (1998)
[Poet has been granted an early parole]
Arnold 'Poet' Jackson: It's kinda fucked up, leaving. Everybody else is staying. It's like waking up from a dream.
Kareem Said: Hope is a waking dream.
Arnold 'Poet' Jackson: Who that, Mohammad?
Kareem Said: Aristotle.
Arnold 'Poet' Jackson: Well, that fuck ain't never served no time in Oz.

"Oz: Impotence (#5.8)" (2002)
Tobias Beecher: How is love wrong, Kareem? In whatever form it takes, how is love wrong? Especially, here in Oz where there's so little of it. You and I, we love each other. You stabbed Schillinger and Robson for me. But the Aryans say that any sort of love between the races is a perversion. Who decides these things? Who chooses which love is permissible?
Kareem Said: God.
Tobias Beecher: The God I worship... Loves everybody, and he created a universe full of different kinds of people sharing different kinds of love.

"Oz: Even the Score (#4.15)" (2001)
#97R492 James Robson: Sorry about what happened to Leroy Tidd, or... Ooga Booga. Or whatever the fuck you call him.
[Said starts pounding on Robson, Arif knocks Schillinger out]
#97R492 James Robson: You fucking nigger!
Kareem Said: NIGGER! You wanna see the nigger in me!
[Said's pounding on Robson intensifies]
Kareem Said: You wanna SEE the nigger in ME!
[Said continues beating Robson to a pulp]

"Oz: Revenge Is Sweet (#4.11)" (2001)
Burr Redding: You the cat who wasted Simon Adebisi, Outstanding! I heard he was one mean motherfucker, which makes you even worse.
Kareem Said: I killed Adebisi in self defense, the court exonerated me.
Burr Redding: No doubt, but motive is less important than outcome, he's dead and you're not!

"Oz: You Bet Your Life (#4.8)" (2000)
Simon Adebisi: [grabs Said after learning he's being transferred out of Em City] So, the end is near, huh?
Kareem Said: No! More likely things are gonna go back to the way they were before!
Simon Adebisi: Not for me - for you!
[holds a shank to Said's throat]
Kareem Said: You said you weren't gonna kill me!
Kareem Said: You swore to Allah that you were my brother!
Kareem Said: And I meant that.
Kareem Said: LIAR! I gave you that tape as a final test or your loyalty, your friendship - your love!
[cuts Said on the cheek]
Kareem Said: [screams, starts to struggle with Adebisi. The sounds radiate outside into Em City. All the inmates and COs stare in anticipation. Suddenly, a large blood stain appears on the curtains blocking their view]
Simon Adebisi: [Bursts out the door, staggering. Walks a few steps, laughs, spits out blood. Finally, falls over dead. The inmates start shouting in disbelief]
Officer Sean Murphy: [into his radio] This is 25, we got a 16!
Kareem Said: [the inmates rush up the stairs, but are blocked by COs as he stumbles out of the cell, breathing heavily, covered in blood and holding the shank]
Officer Sean Murphy: [takes out his nightstick] Drop it. Drop it! Drop the shank!
Kareem Said: [throws the shank to the ground, and is restrained by a CO]
Zahir Arif: Imam! Imam!

"Oz: Strange Bedfellows (#2.6)" (1998)
Kareem Said: I understand you have some information regarding the governor, James Devlin? Information of a damaging nature.
#98W504 Jiggy Walker: Damaging? Depends on how you view crack.
