Mrs. Emma Peel (nee Knight) was John Steed's second female partner in The Avengers. She appeared in the fourth and fifth seasons of the show (or fourth, fifth and sixth, depending on how you divide it up).

A brunette, Emma was the widow of Peter Peel, a test pilot who had been lost in the jungle when a plane he was testing crashed. Like her predecessor Catherine Gale, she was a martial arts expert who knew how to take care of herself, but her relationship with Steed was a shade warmer (although the two never became involved). Emma also frequently dressed in leather catsuits (in her early appearances at least) although she later switched to stretchier jersey-fabric outfits. Emma possessed a high level of muscular strength that enabled her, for example, to bend back the bars of a cage and lift a man onto her shoulders.

Emma drove two Lotus Elan Convertibles during her tenure on the show, a white one in her early appearances and a metallic blue one in later episodes. It was never explained how she met Steed - in her first appearance they just knew each other already (although she, like Cathy Gale, was not an official government agent). However, unlike Cathy, Emma was given a reason for departure when she left the show as her husband was found alive and well in the jungle so she bade Steed goodbye to return to him.

Emma did not appear in the show again after her departure, although she was referenced several times in the sequel series, The New Avengers, in one episode of which Steed placed a phone call to her. He was also seen to have a photo of her (along with his other former partners, Cathy and Tara King) on his mantelpiece.
