Miranda Priestly is a character in a novel by Lauren Weisberger called The Devil Wears Prada. Although Weisberger has denied that she based the character on Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue, according to those who know Wintour (who has a "cameo" in the book), there are far too many similarities between Miranda and Anna - both in their personal and professional lives - to be merely coincidental.

According to Wikipedia, Miranda was "born" in London in October 1949 to an Orthordox Jewish family (Wintour was born in London in November 1949). She changed her last name to Priestly shortly after becoming junior editor of Chic magazine in Paris. She worked for 10 years at French Runway before being relocated to New York by her publisher to take over as editor-in-chief of American Runway. And, as does Anna Wintour, Miranda is divorced and has two children, a boy and a girl.
