Amanda Tanen, a.k.a Amanda Sommers, Receptionist for Mode Magazine
Miss Tanen began her somewhat lackluster career as a receptionist for Mode magazine following a pathetic and embarrassing foray into acting, (her most pivotal role being the "serving wench" at Medieval Knights). With no education or real brains for that matter, Amanda began using her looks to climb the corporate ladder most scandalously by attracting the attention of newly appointed editor-in-chief, Daniel Meade. After several months of unfruitful dating, a position opens up as Assistant to the Editor-in-chief, a position that Amanda is told "she is not qualified for", but desperately wants. Filling that position is the ultimate bane of Amanda's existence, the smart, perky, and couture-demented...Betty Suarez. A vicious battle ensues as Amanda makes it her business, along with help from office-friend and co-conspirator Marc, the assistant to Creative Director of Mode Wilhelmina Slater (aka Beelzebub), to bring down the brace-laden behemoth. Things become complicated though as Betty consistently proves herself to be a formidable force and eventual back bone to the Mode family. Amanda recenters her attention, dumping Daniel but still defending him (most notably against NYW Mogul Sophia, who breaks Daniel's heart on national television), and begins to see her power as the center relay station for all knowledge at Mode, whether grape-vine or factual. In fact, she is solely responsible for the discovery of the famed "love dungeon", where the widely publicized Bradford Meade-Fey Sommers affair occurred. However, shortly after Daniel's estranged brother-turned-sister Alexis shows up as joint Editor-in-Chief, Amanda finds that her Mode connections lie beyond the headset after she discovers a birth certificate, a certificate verifying her as Fey Sommers only daughter and possible half-sister to Daniel Meade, thus solidifying her as an ultimate power player in the Mode power-struggle.
She is a regular of the show.
