Peg Boggs, played by Dianne Wiest in the movie, Edward Scisorhands lived in Florida and sold Avon for a living. One day after not having much luck with selling anything she saw, in her rearview mirror, the old haunted decrepit mansion that was situated at the end of a cul-de-sac. To this day, it is unclear if she actually thought someone in that deserted, ghostly place would actually buy anything from her or if she just wanted to see what it was like up there. But the plain cold hard fact is, she drove her car up to the building and pushed her way in. She was trying to find someone (exploring?) who might buy Avon from her when she found this man sitting in a corner halfway hidden by the partially collapsing roof. She approached the guy who came toward her and it was then that she actually saw the blades he held. In his hands. Many sharp blades. Apologizing profusely, she started to retreat but the man begged her not to go, and Peg had her first good look at him. Being the kind hearted person she was, Peg Boggs told "Edward" he was to come with her.

Peg didn't realize what she'd done as thus started the story of the century. Not only did the neighbors fill one whole side of the answering machine tape, but they had the audacity to invite themselves over to an imaginary barbecue in Edward's honor and they told her it would be Sunday at 5:00. Because she was so kind hearted, she felt she had to accommodate her pushy neighbors.

She was very kind toward Edward and tried to make him feel at home which included getting her hair cut until there was no more to cut, chastizing her son for being cruel to Edward, telling Edward not to listen to Esmerelda when she was cruel, and helping Edward to dress in her husband's clothes. She went with Edward to The Bank to apply for a loan and comforted Edward after they were unsuccessful when the banker said off handedly "You might as well not exist." She comforted her daughter after she came home from camping early and found Edward in her bed. She so proudly introduced Edward to her daughter. In short, she treated him like he was better than family. She also experimented on Edward with face creams manufactured by Avon.

Finally, though after a series of events that culminated with The Police going after Edward and Edward running for his life, Peg came to the conclusion that maybe it would have been better if Edward hadn't come down to live with them because up in the mansion, he was happier and safer.
