Witty and intelligent, Ratchet is known, throughout the Transformers franchise, as the chief medical officer of the Autobots. He is often portrayed as a robot whose primary vehicle mode is that of an ambulance. He made his first on-screen appearance in the original Transformers animated series, in the episode Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye: Part 1 (#1.1)
. He was portrayed by both Don Messick
and Wally Burr
in the animated series.
Ratchet made his first ever live action appearance, in the 2007 film Transformers
from director Michael Bay
. but instead of being an ambulance like the one he protrays in the tv show, Ratchet was now a hummer h2 fire department search & rescue vehicle. And unlike the animated series, he wasn't a standard red and white ambulance, he was lime green, with Search and Rescue accesories all over the vehicle. Robert Foxworth
provided the voice for Ratchet in the live action movie.Stats

In the 2010 CGI animated series, Transformers: Prime, Ratchet is more of a curmudgeonly old man type character and is highly frustrated with the fact he is stuck on such a "primative" planet amongst the humans. He is however infinitely loyal to Optimus Prime and seems to be Prime's oldest and most trusted comrade of the crew.
