Biography for
Newt (Character)
from Aliens (1986)

Rebecca "Newt" Jorden was a small girl living with her parents and brother Timmy in the colony on LV-426, Hadley's Hope. She was about 7 years old and was in the second grade. Her family was the first to investigate the crashed derelict ship carrying alien eggs and her father was infested by them. Soon, they spread through the colony and Newt was able to survive by hiding in the vents, as other children did until the aliens killed them and Newt was the only survivor. Newt carried a little doll head with her everywhere named Casey, which was her only possession. Due to her experience, she became severely traumatized and suffered from nightmares.

She was rescued by the marines and Ripley when they arrived. Ripley and Newt soon developed a mother-daughter relationship. Newt and Ripley were the only people who had faced an alien and survive for a while. They were almost impregnated by facehuggers when Carter Burke let them loose in the med lab, luckily the were saved by the marines and the facehuggers were destroyed. When the aliens attacked, Newt was able to lead the survivors to safety however the aliens followed them, killing everyone except her, Ripley and Corporal Dwayne Hicks. Newt was captured by an alien warrior when she fell down an air shaft during an explosion in the vents. Ripley refused to leave Newt behind so she went back to the nest to rescue her. Ripley managed to save her from a facehugger but were stopped in their tracks when they came face to face with the Alien Queen. Ripley destroyed the Queen's nest and escaped with Newt to the marine's drop ship seconds before the planet exploded. When they got back to the Sulaco they found the Alien Queen, who had stowed away on the ship. While Ripley distracted the Queen, Newt ran away and hid under the floor, the Queen found and attacked her. Just before the Queen was about to grab Newt, Ripley came in a Power Loader and fought it off and blew it out of the airlock, Newt was almost sucked into space herself but the android Bishop was able to save her. After Ripley reached safety, she and Newt shared a special moment in the film when Newt called her "mommy". Newt went into cryogenic sleep with the rest of the survivors, which were only her, Ripley, Bishop (who had been torn apart by the Alien Queen) and Hicks (who was wounded by alien acid blood).

Tragically, Newt was killed in the crash of the EEV when it crashed onto the prison planet Fiorina-161, nicknamed "Fury". Ripley convinced the prisoners to cremate Newt and Hicks (who also died in the crash) in case the aliens had implanted embryos in them. Although there are those who believe Alien 3 to be canon there are others who, mainly because of the amount of plot holes and inconsistencies in the series think of Alien 3 as nothing more than a bad dream of Ripleys. if this were true then it can be assumed that Newt still lives on as the Sulaco floats back to earth.
