The Genie, also known as the Genie of the Lamp, is a character in the Aladdin franchise. He is Aladdin's genie and one of his best friends.

The reason Dan Castellaneta replaced Robin Williams is that, when the first "Aladdin" movie came out, Williams wanted to keep a low profile, but Disney plastered his name all over the advertisements. This disgusted Williams, and he quit, being replaced for "The Return of Jafar" and the Aladdin series. Later, Disney issued a public apology and convinced Williams to come back for "Aladdin and the King of Thieves". However, when the movie "Bicentennial Man" was released, Williams was angry on how the publicity for the film was handled and permanently quit Disney, forcing them to bring back Castellaneta as the voice of the Genie. Ever since that day, Williams and Disney had been on bad terms.

He is voiced by Robin Williams in the first film, by Dan Castellaneta in the sequels, and currently by Jim Meskimen.
