Peregrin Took (nicknamed 'Pippin") is a Took and that should be description enough. Tooks dwell in the Shire in Tookborough. They're set apart from the rest of Hobbits because of their inquisitiveness and adventuresome spirit. Pippin journeys with Frodo to Rivendell and becomes a member of the Fellowship of the Ring. He and his cousin Meriadoc (called "Merry") are later separated from the rest of the Fellowship by an attack at Parth Gallen where Boromir of Gondor falls trying to protect them. Pippin and Merry are then carried away by Orcs under the command of Saruman to bring any halflings to Isengard. He and the Fellowship are not fully reunited again (excluding Boromir of course) until the end of the trilogy.

In the third part of the trilogy Pippins swears an oath to Lord Denethor II, the steward of Gondor. He does this out of guilt for the death of Boromir, Denethor's first and favorite son. He is later released from his oath when Denethor, believing his second son, Faramir, to be dead, tries to burn both himself and Faramir alive. Pippin knows that Faramir is alive and calls Gandalf for help. When Aragorn takes the throne, Pippin is brought under oath again and he fights in the Battle of Mordor as a knight of Gondor.

Pippin and Merry were known for being troublemakers in the Shire. But when they returned, they (along with their cousin Frodo and friend Sam) became heroes after leading the rebellion against Saruman, who had taken over the Shire in their absence. Pippin married Diamond of Long Cleeve, when she was 32 and he was 37. They had one son, Faramir. Faramir Took later married Samwise Gamgee's daughter Goldilocks. He and Merry became the two tallest Hobbits in their history, having drank Ent-draught. Pippin inherited his father's title and became 32nd Thain of the Shire, a position he held for 50 years before retiring and revisiting Rohan and Gondor with Merry. He remained in Gondor for the rest of his life.
