Good job - SNK's Terminator inspired run and gun game
Cyber-lip is SNK's answer to Contra. It runs on the awesome MVS/AES hardware. It's a straightforward run and gun with the good guy saving the earth from alien invaders. The main character looks a bit like if John O'Connor was filtered through Bart Simpson. As well as Terminator the game also borrows from the Alien films and bosses from Irem's R-type.
I first played this game in the arcades in a 4 in 1 cabinet. I was disappointed by the small sprites compared to other games in the cab like King of Fighters 94 and Windjammers. I didn't appreciate how good the animation is in this game; seeing the robots blow up never gets boring. This is a 1990 game and is much better looking than Contra, even Super Contra.
The music is nice, but forgettable - B grade in my opinion. Thr game as you expect is repetitive. This is common with run and gun games. Contra had overhead sections to break it up, Robocop II had 'target practice' sections, even Shinobi had bonus games. That said I find the actual core game very fun, but it's very difficult and a bit of a slog to get through. The game appeared on Neo Geo CD, Arcade and Neo Geo AES console. This game was strangely never released on Nintendo virtual console and Steam which is a shame as it's drifted into obscurity.
