A new David FIncher rumour: he’s reportedly set to remake Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope, with Charlize Theron lined up for a starring role.
Another week, another David Fincher rumour. Given how many stories we’ve heard of late regarding Fincher’s next project for Netflix, we’re beginning to wonder if the Fight Club filmmaker is orchestrating a disinformation campaign worthy of Project Mayhem, the anarchist movement from his 1999 masterpiece.
Recent weeks have seen stories emerge that suggested Fincher would be remaking Squid Game, the hit South Korean Netflix show as an English language film. Just a few days ago, a story appeared that claimed he would be making a western next titled Bitteroot, modelled after the style of Clint Eastwood’s 1992 classic, Unforgiven. Oh, and it doesn’t seem like that long ago since reports suggested that his next film would be a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers On A Train.

Kevin Costner’s magnum opus Horizon: An American Saga seems to be in limbo after the first chapter of the four-part film bombed at the box office. Costner directed and financed the films himself, selling part of his estate to fund the $100 million budget. The first film, which was released in June only managed to earn $36 million.
Costner’s directorial reportedly came at the cost of his successful neo-Western TV show Yellowstone, which after clashes with creator Taylor Sheridan and the studio, he exited. While Costner has been a master of the Western genre, he seems to have fumbled with Horizon in one place where Yellowstone succeeded.

Kevin Costner earned his Oscar for Best Director for his debut directorial Dances with Wolves, which is credited to have revived the Western genre in Hollywood.

The genius of Clint Eastwood was not just limited to being an actor. Along with this, he also ventured into the territory of film direction. At the moment, Eastwood has 30 plus movies under his belt. While some did wonders at the box office, others did not so much. But even in the highs and lows of Hollywood, there is one movie that the legendary actor is most proud of.

Wait, you’re telling me there’s a Tubi original film that doesn’t—how do I put this—suck? Just from the look of the poster, The Thicket seems like a bad career move for Emmy-winner Peter Dinklage, an understandable one for Juliette Lewis, and an act of desperation from a director specializing in pop-star music videos.
I couldn’t have been more wrong. Elliott Lester’s The Thicket is a masterstroke in pace and tone. Like Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven decades prior strips away the facade of the Old West. No, Lester’s great Western trailblazer strips away the lore, presenting a ruthless and cutthroat world unlike any we’ve seen in the genre in years.
Lester’s film captures the true dangers of the frontier, pitiless to the weak. Yet no matter how tough and seasoned these characters are, everyone calls out for their mamas by the end.

Why does Morgan Freeman, our beloved cinematic sage, sport those iconic gold hoop earrings? While some might think it’s merely a quirky fashion choice, there’s a fascinating, slightly morbid reason behind them that leaves us both admiring & chuckling in the same breath.
Morgan Freeman in Hard Rain | Credit: Paramount Pictures
As the man who’s delivered breathtaking performances in Glory, Se7en, Unforgiven, and The Dark Knight trilogy, Freeman has clearly ascended to the pinnacle of A-list stardom. But back to the gold hoops—these aren’t just bling for the bling’s sake. Freeman revealed in a 2019 Instagram post that these gleaming accessories are worth just enough for someone “to buy me a coffin if I die in a strange place”.
Just like the brave sailors and roguish pirates of yesteryear, Freeman’s got his bases covered, ensuring he can rest in peace wherever his life adventures might lead him.

Leonardo DiCaprio may have had high hopes working with director Clint Eastwood as the latter is one of the most renowned filmmakers in the industry. The actor wanted to pick up 2011’s J. Kevin Costner is now known for his role in the neo-Western Yellowstone. However, the legendary actor has had a rollercoaster of a career since the ‘80s and the ‘90s. From his iconic role in the sports drama Field of Dreams to his disastrous magnum opus Waterworld, Costner has seen it all.

Clint Eastwood is one of those people who can turn anything into gold by simply being a part of it. One could say that the director/actor is gifted the Midas Touch. While it is difficult to pick just one favorite amongst his many works, Dirty Harry by Don Siegel seems like a good place to start. Having received unending praise from both critics and fans, the cop thriller was preserved by the Library of Congress in the U.S. National Film Registry. It’s that good.

While Clint Eastwood’s creative ideas always seem to work in his films’ favor, he was a little off about how things should end for his character in Dirty Harry. Luckily, director Don Siegel was there to guide him in the right direction and he actually ended up loving the ending he was once so against.

With a career spanning over 6 decades, Clint Eastwood is an undisputed icon in Hollywood. His contributions to acting and filmmaking are widely revered by fans worldwide. The Dirty Harry fame also has 4 Oscars attached to his name. Strangely, despite having such a celebrated career, he is one of the rarest celebrities who does not have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been one of the greatest honors in the industry. While several fans consider it as a publicity stunt, it makes the celebrities believe that they have attained a certain level. However, Clint Eastwood’s case is different as he never cared much about materialistic success. He has been nominated for the honor numerous times but he has always emphasized more on his craft rather than the accolades.

This week, Lionsgate released — and then promptly recalled — an audacious trailer for “Megalopolis,” an ugly yet undeniably ambitious late-career monstrosity from Francis Ford Coppola.
Normally, trailers come padded with hyperbolic quotes from less-than-credible critics — “quote whores,” we call them — plucked out of context and punched up with exclamation marks.
“An edge-of-your-seat thrill ride!” (“Any Given Sunday”)
“The best Western since ‘Unforgiven’!”
“Two thumbs way up!” (professional enthusiasts Siskel and Ebert on more movies than you can count)
In the case of “Megalopolis,” the marketing team tried a different strategy. Instead of quoting reviews out of the Cannes Film Festival, Lionsgate lied.
Whoever oversaw that trailer seemed to be working on the assumption that you’ve already heard that “Megalopolis” is a disaster, so they set out to discredit the critics … by making up negative reviews of past Coppola triumphs. The trailer quotes Andrew Sarris and Pauline Kael sniping “The Godfather,...

Unforgiven was one of Clint Eastwood’s most talked-about films, as well as one of the longest to come to life once the project became official. In the middle of it all, one big challenge was casting, especially since he had to convince one of the actors he really wanted.

In Hollywood, there haven’t been many feuds, but the ones that exist (or existed) have been nothing short of epic. And among all the names on this list, Clint Eastwood has a place as well. Apparently, the mastermind 94-year-old filmmaker had an alleged fight with his peer and 67-year-old director Spike Lee around a decade and a half ago.

And, curiously enough, Eastwood actually came clean about it all.

Three weeks after landing in theaters, "Deadpool & Wolverine" is still going strong. It has not only crossed the $1 billion box office milestone at the box office, but also and bocame the highest-grossing R-rated film ever.
"Deadpool & Wolverine" has a lot of problems (read /Film's mixed review here) but the titular buddy dynamic is one of its strengths. If nothing else, it's fun to hear a grouchy Hugh Jackman call Ryan Reynolds an idiot over and over.
Logan and Wade Wilson have a long history in Marvel Comics. They're both way more lethal than most other superheroes and have a shared history of being experimented on by the Weapon X super soldier program. Wolverine's bad temper makes him the perfect comedic foil for Deadpool's flippancy, so their team-ups are a salt-and-pepper pairing that makes for a truly dynamic duo.

It is not surprising considering Jackman cited Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven and Mickey Rourkle’s The Wrestler as inspirations for the film.

Despite often being cast as the paragon of parental virtues, Costner’s tantrums ballooned a bit too much, leading to a rare moment of tension with Eastwood.

Clint Eastwood brought back Westerns to the mainstream after Dances with Wolves, with his Best Picture-winning directorial Unforgiven. Starring and directing the Western, Eastwood also had an ensemble cast of brilliant supporting actors, with an in-form Gene Hackman giving an Oscar-winning performance.
Hackman’s Little Bill has been regarded as one of the greatest villains in Hollywood history and his ruthlessness while also being a protector has been appreciated. Eastwood’s reasons for admiring Little Bill give fans of Marvel’s Thanos validation as the Mad Titan seemed to have similar ideologies.

Although Richard Harris might have thought he was the target of a prank, Clint Eastwood was certain he wanted the legendary actor for one of his finest films.
Richard Harris passed away in 2002 after leading an extremely successful career as an actor. It has been over two decades since his passing but his legacy is still alive, especially in the hearts of Harry Potter fans. He played Professor Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter films, the latter of which was released after his death.

Despite being best known as our favorite Hogwarts professor, Richard Harris had many other iconic roles in his portfolio including Gulliver in Gulliver’s Travels, King Arthur in Camelot, and so on. Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven is one such film that might be considered as the best work of his career.

If you haven’t jumped on the Yellowstone bandwagon yet, what are you waiting for? This show is hotter than a pistol in a cowboy’s holster on a scorching summer day. The mastermind orchestrating this remarkable success is none other than co-creator Taylor Sheridan, a man whose touch has turned not just Yellowstone but also its numerous spin-offs into gold.

He has created a world so immersive, that you’ll feel like you’re right there on the Montana plains, wrangling cattle and duking it out with land developers. Critically acclaimed at best, the show inexplicably morphed into a cultural phenomenon, capturing the imaginations of millions worldwide.
As Sheridan’s producing partner, David Glasser put it, the former’s commitment and dedication shine through in every project he undertakes, ensuring that his word truly is his bond.

Decades ago, Clint Eastwood really set up a whole other world through his lens for the Oscar-winning critics’ favorite Western/action masterpiece from 1992, Unforgiven. Fast forward to twenty-four years later, mastermind Taylor Sheridan perfectly contributed to and continued the legacy that Eastwood created through his own commendation-worthy Western projects.

If anything, while Eastwood broke the genre by bringing about the real Western world into the wild, Sheridan further carried up the bar with his tremendous works and attention to detail in this respective genre. That said, it wouldn’t be an overstatement to claim Sheridan might as well be the real heir to Eastwood’s ‘Western’ legacy, as even Helen Mirren can’t help but admit.

Clint Eastwood’s award-winning Western film, Unforgiven, earned him critical acclaim for his acting and directing performance alongside veteran actor Gene Hackman. Impressed by the script written by David Webb Peoples, Eastwood took on the project with only Hackman in his mind as the main antagonist.

He knew the actor’s star power would deliver a profit, but it took some convincing before Hackman agreed. He liked the script, but he initially rejected it due to extreme brutality. He is famously known as an advocate of anti-gun violence.

This may be painful, but prior to Taylor Sheridan’s arrival as a storyteller, the Western genre’s heartbeat was growing faint; its glory days were a mere echo in Hollywood’s canyon. Who would have dared to dream that a movie could really spur a renaissance and bring the Western back to the forefront of American culture, reminding us all of the thrill of the untamed land?

That being said, it even provided the creative tinder for Taylor Sheridan’s now-acclaimed Yellowstone.

Taylor Sheridan’s brainchild, Yellowstone, has truly taken the bull by the horns in the American cultural rodeo, yet it seems to be galloping into uncharted waters. Despite its soaring popularity, akin to a high-flying eagle in the mountainous Montana sky, and branding of it as “the most red-state show” on TV, it curiously remains an underdog in the eyes of critics.
While many admirers are thrilled about Yellowstone, some detractors do not share this enthusiasm because they claim the show purposefully promotes conservative ideals. But Sheridan won’t accept such whines.
Josh Lucas in Yellowstone | Paramount Network
A closer look at the numbers reveals an intriguing paradox: Succession, the media darling, is Yellowstone’s mirror image in its depiction of a patriarch’s empire at a crossroads. However, in a head-to-head viewership showdown, Yellowstone’s episodes more often defeated its rival in the previous season.

This article is the best at what it does, but what it does is spoil Deadpool & Wolverine.
When it comes to the big screen, there’s only one Wolverine and his name is Hugh Jackman. After Dougray Scott stuck shooting Mission: Impossible II for longer than anticipated and had to drop out of playing Logan in 2000’s X-Men, Jackman has owned the part. Not even a noble and beloved death in Logan can put a stop to Jackman’s reign as cinema’s premiere Canucklehead, as he dons the goofy mask and yellow duds in full for Deadpool & Wolverine.
But while Deadpool & Wolverine does further delay the inevitable recasting of Logan for the MCU, it also gives viewers a look at different types of Wolverine. Sure, these are all still Hugh Jackman—save, of course, for the one played by Henry Cavill—but at least there’s some more flavor.

Rutger Hauer and Ridley Scott only made one film together, the 1982 classic Blade Runner – but Hauer went on to make two more movies that were scripted by Blade Runner screenwriter David Webb Peoples; the 1985 medieval fantasy film Ladyhawke (where Peoples went uncredited) and the apocalyptic 1989 film The Blood of Heroes, which Peoples also directed. There is perhaps no genre more American than the Western. Stories of cowboys and the Wild West have captured the screen since the dawn of cinema. The Western has been buried dozens of times in its century-long existence, but each time it has pulled itself out, desperately refusing to die.
Horizon is Kevin Costner's Dream Project
At the end of the last century, we almost witnessed the final death of the genre, but first Kevin Costner's Dances With Wolves and then Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven revived the genre not only for the viewers, but also for the Academy – Dances With Wolves won seven Oscars and Unforgiven won four.
Both Costner and Eastwood, the main cowboys of modern cinema, are still in business. And while the latter is hard at work on his latest film, the former has completed his dream project for which he left one of the most popular series of recent years,...

There are plenty of great Clint Eastwood movie moments in "Escape from Alcatraz," but it's not just the veteran star that made this a legendary prison break thriller. Directed by Don Siegel, the film was an adaptation of J. Campbell Bruce's 1963 non-fiction book of the same name, which chronicled the real-life June 1962 Alcatraz escape attempt. "Escape" also marked the fifth and final collaboration between the Siegel and Eastwood, and it's a fitting end to their fruitful working relationship. Still regarded as one of the finest films of the 1970s, "Escape" was met with widespread critical acclaim upon its 1979 release and its reputation hasn't faltered since.
Aside from the tight direction and excellent lead performance, the film also features stellar supporting performances from the likes of Patrick McGoohan, Fred Ward, Jack Thibeau, and Larry Hankin. What's more, it marked the film debut of Danny Glover, who of course went on...

Indeed, even Matthew Lewis, known for his portrayal of Neville Longbottom, recently admitted he is unsure if he’s ready for more.

Have you ever witnessed the transformative power of true acting prowess married with masterful direction? In the movie industry, Clint Eastwood’s real genius as a filmmaker crystallized in moments such as trusting the indomitable Richard Harris with his evocative vision in the 1992 Western flick, Unforgiven.
This is especially evident in the scene-stealing role of English Bob—an arrogant, pseudo-aristocratic gunslinger who is anything but what he seems. Harris, widely celebrated for his gravitas as Albus Dumbledore in the early Harry Potter flicks, went down the rabbit hole by delving deep into historical complexities to flesh out his character’s (in Unforgiven) deceptive nature.
Clint Eastwood as William Munny in Unforgiven | Warner Bros. Pictures
Eastwood’s count on Harris’ interpretation added a rich layer of authenticity to Unforgiven, a film that not only challenged the traditional tropes of Westerns but also reflected on the fables we cherish about our heroes & their legacies.
